Disparu's comment on the Imperial Agent storyline from SWTOR is something I thought i'd never hear given how many people underrate that game. The Old Republic era is such a treasure trove of stories that i'm still shocked Disny havent plundered it yet. Then again, perhaps i'm glad they are untouched given what Disney are currently doing
@sztallone415 Жыл бұрын
obviously because disney is so afraid the next product will lose money that they try to maximize profits by regurgitating old elements of the franchise to the point of remaking an old movie, and the new stuff must always be connected to existing things superficially, because otherwise people might not recognise that this is X. that's it was a given that Vader appeared in Kenobi despite making the series worse lorewise. they won't touch those stories, only on their deathbed because they deem them too niche and not having enough audience. they're stupid ofc. same with RoP - Sauron
@landotucker Жыл бұрын
I liked that storyline too. I played through all of the swtor class stories and that was probably my second favorite after the sith warrior. Kotor 1 & 2 were also great (I prefer 2 though because of Kreia) I agree with you that I'd rather disney kept their hands off these though because of what they'd inevitably turn into.
@Eluxor Жыл бұрын
@@landotucker I always put Sith Warrior at the top, I am fan of the plot changes and switches from the IA story, but the SW one is just great. Imperial Agent was the best one. The Sith Inquisitor had great lines if you played it as a power-crazed Sith lunatic (seriously, some great moments) but overall was weak. Going by all those great moments, if the writer for the Inquisitor storyline had had more time and, possibly, a good editor to help, it could've been great.

Both Avatars totaly belittle whole fucking humanity, painting us as retarded monsters bent on destroing all the ecosystems we can find. It's like Greta helped Cameron with script ideas... And putting some appealing message is easy, following it is the hard part. If you stop looking at the pretty pictures, you will see that: 1) Jake is covard who abandons his people and forces danger on water tribe 2) Irresponsible idiot who constanty attacks people holding his children hostage, which only works because his enemies don't understand that they are allowed to execute hostages 3) Is actually terrible father, who constantly puts down his second son for little to no reason, and does not give two shits about Spider. That movie was terrible and I tired of pretending otherwise, but people liked it because it had the pretty pictures and thats basically it. So far, I haven't met a single person in ANY situation who has mentioned it. Obviously, lots of people saw it, and I have no doubt plenty of those people I interact with saw it, but none of them are talking about it. When the first one came out, everyone was talking about it--or rather, they were talking about it being a movie (the effects, the 3D experience--whether it was cool or distracting or made them sick, how it was made, the fact that a kid's book report on Pocahontas was identical to it, etc.). There were some people who saw it lots of times, but most were impressed but indifferent. I was that way--I was wowed by the experience and never once had any urge to ever see it again. In a lot of ways, it was like Titanic. There were people who saw it 20 times. And there were a bunch of us who thought it was really well done but never wanted to sit through it again.

@@Intreductor Then they should give her her own show that can fail after one season. The reason Mando is a side character in his own show now, is also the reason the ratings are plummeting and the writing is garbage: Disney saw that the show was hugely successful, and tried to use it to resuscitate every piece of dead Star Wars property. It started out as a new story, with new characters, but when it became successful, they just couldn't resist pumping in old characters from shit that's OVER, just cus they lack the talent or the nerve to create more new content. Clone Wars was a cartoon, that is now in the past. If they want to continue the stories of the characters from it, they sould just make a new series of it instead of hijacking another show, just because it was popular, and popular new material was something they were very VERY short of.

Throw a pot of naft at the second man and miss entirely since it's a hand thrown grenade in the dark and burns down the neighbour's harvest causing them to starve in the winter. I have to resort to the pot of boiling oil at the top of the hay loft "Deus Lo Vult!" The boiling oil completely drenches two men and cause them to scream in agony and writhe on the ground, racked with incomprehensible pain. The screams of pain frightens horses in nearby stables. Does anyone know what the name of the Countdown mix they use for most Open Bar and Last Call premieres? I like the music and was hoping to find a loop or source depending, but I seem to’ve only found the old mixes. Been meaning to ask but missed the last.

the irony is that the only thing I got from Star Wars recently that stayed with me was Andor, and that's cos they made the theme so important. I gave more of a shit about the Rebellion on Ferrix then I ever have about "The New Republic", which to be fair, is the biggest victim of recent Star Wars (compared to the EU). it's one thing to lose Leia, Han, Luke, but to see that we lost them so that they could give us a new "New Republic" which doesn't ever feel like a place worth fighting for, let alone giving a shit about (unlike the EU). will we end up saying "Thrawn was right"?

At 1:46:00, they talk about powerful women not needing to go battle and my mind got to Cersei and Olenna Tyrell in GoT, as two very powerful women clashing with wits and not swords in a medieval setting, nonetheless. And the mother in the first season of heroes, a overbearing presence done by a middle aged Lady. At times she was scarier than the villain. And Atia, in Rome, powerful woman 101. So they did know how to do it and is so more menacing than a girl with a sword.

1:00:00 that “secret thing” you keep referring to is compelling narrative. The reason john wick is compelling isn’t just because some guy destroys a mafia in response to killing his dog. It’s about someone who has lost all those he cared about, and who can only find comfort in the last remaining thing he still has. The dog doesn’t judge him for his past and loves him no matter what. It’s what keeps him sane. The intro shows is how beaten down he is, and Once that dog is dead, he has nobody left to love, but plenty of people to hate. Little is more dangerous than a scorned man (or woman) with nothing left to lose, but everything to gain. If it just cut to him shooting the mafia the movie would be far less interesting. As for avatar, it’s more the prospect of a world untouched by man’s destructive behavior, hyper industrialization, and often cynical attitudes toward the world. It’s the potential to start over in a primal world. One with a new story, a new world to explore, a new culture, and new conflicts. I believe The reason so many of us barely remember or talk about the films, but get exited at new ones is because deep down we recognize that this world has immense potential for a fresh story, and are exited to see a good story be told within it, but so far it hasn’t. Yet we hold hope that one day someone will make a story within this world into something more than a visual spectacle.

"That doesn't sound like a great review though" bro he literally encapsulated everything the movie was, told you he liked it, and then told you why he liked it. That is literally a review of the movie by definition and a pretty spot on one at that. Mario movie wasn't the buggest deal story-wise but it was very enjoyable and fun. Made me feel like I was playing again with all my buddies back in the day

Calling Rey a Palpatine is equally as disrespectful if you ask me. Palpatine was actually a good and well-developed character. Rey just picked up a lightsaber one day and was going head to head with trained Jedi and Sith. It was just wahmen power from the beginning. Best to just forget about the sequels and exclude them from canon

1:00:00 (Approx) I think the reason why things like Harry Potter and Star Wars have an impact that Avatar lacks comes down to one thing: they all have obvious antecedents and influences, but to borrow a reviewers' word, those other movies are transformative of their source material and Avatar isn't. Star Wars (to take one example) uses ideas, cliches, and tropes from westerns, samurai films, WWII movies, etc., and then turns them into something different and very genre specific. Avatar takes the same source material and regurgitates it wholesale. The biggest and most obvious one is Dances With Wolves, where the ripping off is so blatant that Avatar should have been slapped with a copyright infringement suit.

@SteelMoments Жыл бұрын
@@tomkoch3495 it's really not. It has some parallels but they're different stories. Blade Runner is about artificial humans, whether or not you could tell the difference, and the morality of creating them. Deus Ex is about real humans enhancing themselves with technology, the morality of that, a multinational corporation profiting from technology that causes its customers illness, using technology to effect immortality... Obviously there's a lot more to both but it's been a very long while since I've played the game, and there's only so much you can say in a KZbin comment. 😏

37:02 if Mark Hamill had broke his contract and walked away refusing to shoot TLJ. Disney would’ve sued him for the same amount of money that TFA made at the box office. Disney also would’ve tarnished his name and gotten fans to hate him for refusing to shoot TLJ without us ever seeing it. Hamill would’ve been blacklisted in Hollywood and would never work again. Mark Hamill had absolutely no choice once he signed on to do the films.

The reason 'superhero fatigue' (SF) is less likely to happen compared to (your example) westerns is because there is a vast variety within the sub genre as well as more relatability to the characters. For Western in particular, there are only a few type of personalities that can make a general appeal and avoid being a niche preference. But for superheroes, you can hit nearly every spot on the preference spectrum for personalities AND the superpowers AND a combination of the 2 traits (e.g. a Superman character with The Punishers background and personality). That's NOT to say just because a movie is a superhero movie, it's foolproof (plenty of examples to show it's not). However the potential for success is definitely there within the genre.

Rings of Power can still be saved by ignoring this season, start it up again with season 1, hire writers instead of activists, hire actors instead of activists, hire producers instead of activists, hire directors instead of activists, stay true to the lore, stay true to the Master & don't insult the Tolkien Army (trust me those lads and lasses ain't the same as the hardcore Marvel herd that will feed on absolutely anything thrown before their snouts) and ! make billions. But they won't do it. They simply refuse to do it. It's beyond frustrating. No rephrase that, it's descending into apathy (and that's even worse). We will always have the books and Jackson's LotR.

I wish The Little Platoon was on for this Open Bar; his video on Avatar 2 describes everything I believe is wrong with the movie. There's no cultural impact because the story is ultimately hollow and exists solely to place the visuals on the screen. Avatar exists to tingle the senses rather than satisfy our minds with storytelling; it feels like Pandora and Avatar are constantly saying, "Look at this!" Nothing about the story underneath that visual is compelling; it's all stolen/"borrowed"/"inspired" content we've heard before more competently.

There was a division in the Star Wars fanbase before The Last Jedi, in 2014 when Disney killed the original continuity. Back then most people were optimistic about Disney taking over so the division was very small compared to now, but it did exist.

when I saw them both I almost felt that The Next Generation or Stargate feel because all of a sudden there'd be some random celebrity, usually a fan. I think that was before they had Whoopi, so I guess I didn't do a big "whoa". I think it was strange to have three of them in one episode though. I think if they'd had Black and Lizzo in one episode, and then later Lloyd then it wouldn't have been so jarring. tbh it takes a lot to un-immerse me. the irony is, that it was one of the better episodes because shit actually happened. something ain't right.

Regarding the empire/republic moral equivalency argument at the 2:22:00 mark, the republic is not “just as bad” as the empire. They’re worse. Consider- in order to maintain the idea of “The Republic are the good guys!” You have to assume that they’re too stupid to make a therapeutic device that can’t be used as a torture device just by pressing a button. I’d argue they did it on purpose. Especially given their history. Remember that; after defeating the imperial forces on the moon of Endor; Leia, Han and Luke sat down with the Ewoks- who were already established as cannibalis in the first reel and only stopped trying to cook Han Solo alive because C-3PO impersonated their god(!)- surrounded by a bunch of empty storm trooper armor. What are we supposed to assume happened to the former occupants of the armor? The empire may be willing to blow up planets (which is arguably justifiable under just-war doctrine) but at least they don’t torture and eat their enemies just to restore power to the hands of a divine-blood aristocracy with laser swords.

Star wars, Escape from New York, Alien, Warriors, The Exorcist, Deer Hunter, Little Big Man, Halloween, One flew over the cuckoo's nest, Pappilon, just some of the movies I grew up with, I remember them all and they where made in the 70's. on Super Mario; I took my 7 year old son to see it a couple of days ago and I didn't hate it but I was also incredibly bored by it. It came across like any other superhero origin film and I felt like they were rushing to push as many cameos as possible to try to set up a Nintento cinematic universe. I still hope they are successful, my kids will like them and Illumination studios right now doesn't do any woke garbage (that I have noticed anyway; Super Mario did emasculate Mario in several scenes and made sure that the princess was never in a compromised position, never can be a damsel in need of rescue from Mario the entire film). We will see how it goes.
