One of my favorite movie openings is Goodfellas...that scene when they opening the car and reveal a bloody mess of a human and then stab and shoot the man is short and sweet and sets up the tone for the next two and a half hours. And of course there is the opening of Star Wars watching the underside of a Star Destroyer...my seven year old self had never seen anything like that at the time.

Regarding Little Platoon's critique of Mario Bros - I have no problem with it. Just because a movie isn't overtly woke doesn't mean it's particularly good. You can appreciate a movie for not marching in lockstep with the Hollywood agenda while also acknowledging that it could have been way, WAY better.

I mean it’s also just reflective of where movies are right now. Like SMB is a perfectly acceptable movie. Basic plot beats, reverence for the source material, etc. The bar is so low for competent media that people have forgotten we can have decent stuff with flaws. Because most of the stuff coming out is garbage, and then the few items that float to the top are a completely different class of film. There hasn’t been anything truly in the middle for a long time.

He said it was okay. Just had little to no actual story telling. It might not have been woke which is a plus though it should not be. It was literally a movie about call backs. That is all. As a child of the 90s with a brother from the 80s I 100% understand The Little Platoons position and actually agree. The amount of space a Mario movie leaves for story telling is astronomical and they took up 0% of that space.. Atleast the shitty live action tried putting some horrible story together. A huge waste is all that can be said.

I agree with his points about the wasted potential. Instead of a movie that can be dismissed as a kids movie, they had years of interconnected characters and little enough source plot to really stretch their legs and make a high quality entry. As a starting point, it's fine. Going forward, especially for properties like Zelda or even in the Mario universe, they need a solid story if they're going to supplant the established family franchise of Disney. The well written stories and memorable songs are why the Disney classics are classics. I'm not saying Nintendo needs musical numbers but they do need those timeless stories that are more than member berries.

I just saw “The Super Princess Peach” movie which features Mario. Luigi? Oh, he is a mansel in distress. Because apparently men just simply aren’t allowed to save women anymore. Even though it is a natural fantasy of both men and women. I asked my gf if young girls fantasize of having boys save them from some physical threat….and she told me that “yes, we want to be protected by you guys.” Obviously, there are subtleties there; women don’t want to be portrayed as completely helpless dimwits. But holy fuck, Peach is a Mary Sue who is better than everyone in that film. It’s the same awful trope that we all hate. So, why exactly is this Mario movie so popular in the sane movie crowd? It’s a 5/10 at best. Peach should have been in the cage….not Luigi. And I will spare you another 10 paragraphs of critique of the subpar film outing my gf and I had last night with the Super Peach movie.

Not only were the predictions delusional wishful thinking, the predictions also gave people false hope that Star wars was going to 'come back' once she was gone and that kept people invested and consuming. Bad press is better than no press. I stopped following Doomcock specifically for these reason. Imperius is a latin adjective that means "imperial" (for titles) or "commanding, dominating" (for individuals). There isn't a whole lot they can copyright as that's an actual latin word that predates copyright. They might have trademarked it but I doubt it as it's a character and not a game title (for example Blizzard has trademarked "cataclysm" because it was one of the WoW expansions) Just don't use official images from the Imperius angel in Diablo as those are copyrighted (duh) and can be used against you.

Final Fantasy 8 Bit theatre dude who's question barely got acknowledged. I gotchu, I understand you, and yes it would be amazing. But thats a real deep cut for most gamers, much less poor Critical Drinker who prolly didnt have the faintest clue what it is. Even though he'd prolly like it. And for those wot dont know he's referencing an old web comic where each of the classes is its own character. Black Mage is basically evil but wastes all his high level magic killing random animals so is mostly helpless. Fighter is super stronger but about as smart as wood and essentially indestructible and those two are the core foils in a pinky and the brain style fashion. Thief steals everything and sometimes engages higher concepts. White Mage believes the best in everyone and black mage basically challenges her entire world view simply by existing. Monk literally broke time space he's so bad about getting lost. Red Mage is basically a DnD player constatnly re-writing their character sheet. Etc. Their adventures are dumb, their villains are dumb, the humor is highly meta, and its really good even today lol.

Curious how you guys handle a situation where a superchat is given but the content of it is something you are uncomfortable reading on air, i.e. either too profane or otherwise objectionable. I thought of this after one of the superchats here which kind of dissed some other YTers who have been on the Drinker show. Hate to see that kind of thing, it's just not polite and runs the risk of alienating folks who might be fans of said YTers (though they weren't mentioned by name). Drinker was very diplomatic in his reply, not dissing anyone including the chatter, but I just wonder...how inflammatory a comment would it have to be to just have them say "Nope, sorry that one's not gettin' read."
