Richard Roxburgh will forever be my favorite Dracula. I just love how goofy and over the top his performance is. He understood the assignment 100%. Lifelong Godzilla fan here, and I can say that most Godzilla movies are silly fun shlock and not meant to be taken seriously. But that first 1954 film had always shown the blueprint that the premise can be taken seriously if done correctly.

Unfortunately, most of the world was exposed to the heavily edited 1956 “Godzilla, King of the Monsters!” with Raymond Burr shoehorned into it.
@kevinoneil512010 ай бұрын
@georgejones3526 I'm gonna go to bat for that version, so hear me out. Mid 50's, barely a decade removed from WW2, and Japan/US relations weren't in a great place. Along comes this movie, "Gojira," that's all the rage in Japan. It could have easily been dubbed over entirely in a mocking fashion as many foreign films were (and still are to this day). Instead, Jewell Enterprises (the company behind the edit) saw how good of a movie it was and took a different approach. Rather than just dub over everything and make it look silly, they added Burr's character as a means to convey what was happening to American audiences. And through clever camera angles, Burr's narration, and the addition of the translator that accompanies Burr, they were actually able to leave much of the original Japanese dialogue intact, dubbing over only when it was absolutely necessary. All while taking the premise of the movie just as seriously as the original Toho version, and Burr himself treated the role as serious as any other. So while one could argue that it's a lesser version of the original, by no means is it a *bad* dub, and I still encourage people to watch both. The Americanized version takes that same event and tells it through the eyes of a foreign reporter who just happened to be there when all this horror was happening. Now Godzilla *1984*... THAT was a bad edit 😆

The first time i tried to read Dune, i couldnt get past 50 pages on the first book. Probably was on the wrong mindset for it. A few years later i gave it another go and went through all the books relatively fast. The 4th book is by far the best, and the main character of the entire story is not who you think in the first couple of books. Tried reading some of the books written by Frank Herbert's son, and noped out instantly. Its not the same lvl of writing. I might give it a shot eventually just for the sake of some of the lore, like the Butlerian Jihad.
@troymash810910 ай бұрын
It's difficult getting through the son's books, but give it another shot. You hit on it, it's so worth it for the lore. Some of it adds to a second or third reading of Frank's books.

Dune will always be my favorite, and one of my favorite novels. It’s the only one of the series I’ve read more than once. And the recommendation of the best SciFi-Story ever "Legend of Galactic Heroes" is also a good one, but that would be quite a journey for him as it isn't dubbed and there is a viewing order with all the films and prequels in addition to the 110 episodes.
