Perhaps American International Pictures was correct in the fifties: "A younger child will watch anything an older child will watch. An older child will not watch anything a younger child will watch. A girl will watch anything a boy will watch. A boy will not watch anything a girl will watch." They determined that, in order to capture the largest audience, they must target their films to 19-year old males.

Saw Andor after much recommendation from Mauler, I had forgotten what it was like to feel good about Star wars, it was nice to get that feeling back again.
@samwallaceart28816 күн бұрын
As a kid first watching SW, I always took the stormtroopers seriously as an imposing occupying police force you don't want to cause trouble with. Like when they get the turret set up as the boys panic and rush into the Falcon to get out of Mos Espa. Those were worthy antagonists where you totally understand why they're there. Didn't feel like that again for 20 years, the "bad aim" memes decayed that a lot. I love Andor for how the ending riot scene made me genuinely worried for the random civilians getting mowed down, and Luthen himself being taken aback for how brave and fed-up the civilians are to fight back nonetheless. And then the music kicks in, and you can just barely hear the beginning notes of what will later become the Luke Skywalker anthem, trying and failing to ring out along the chaos. Show made me take it all as seriously as I did the originals once upon a time.
@MediumRareOpinions16 күн бұрын
@@samwallaceart288 nicely put. I really liked the sense of escalation. How the private security contractors will hassle individuals but are noticeably afraid of being mobbed. How that moves up a notch when Imperials assume direct control felt serious. Defiance against Storm troopers was a major point of escalation and I believe that Luthens Strategy will work. Rebellion leads to oppression which in turn leads to more Rebellion until they overwhelm the oppressor. A far cry from the Sequel trilogy believing Rebellions are built on hope, quite the contrary, they're built on despair agaisnt oppresion. People who have nothing else left and will die resisting rather than live another day under the boot.

There was such a simple fix to seasons 6 to 8 of Game of Thrones : We know that it’s Sam who wrote the chronicles of what happened (and called the book “A Song of Ice and Fire”). All they had to do was add a little metafictional conversation where one character reads it all and calls Sam out on his bullshit, like “Come on how could a scribe like you be the first one to kill a White Walker, be friends with the legendary Jon Snow AND be on the front line during the longest night and survive?” And all Sam would have to answer was “Well, I wrote it so I get to decide who’s where”. Problem solved : all the shitty parts were just made up by the man who wrote the story to flatter his ego or because he was just filling in the blanks. They can actually still fix the series with a simple reshoot. You’re welcome, HBO

Whenever someone brings up statistics (how many men/women/undecided like a thing) there's always someone on the other side who can tell you about someone they know who doesn't fit the demographic. Many years ago, when I was starting to become a motorcyclist, my pal (who got me into it and knew what he was talking about) said that the majority of bikers were white males; biking wasn't something that appealed to ethnic minorities or women (excluding the girlfriends of bikers who only ever rode pillion). On the day I went to collect my first, new bike a Pakistani girl rode up on her own new bike. What does this prove? Absolutely nothing. Anyone who has done statistics at school - or studied any topic that includes some form of statistical analysis - knows that these kinds of anomalies are meaningless. But people love their anecdotes. It's why the current crazies who have no facts and only anecdotes are gaining so much traction: their nonsense appeals to folk who hate maths and don't like to believe that the world operates on laws that don't care about them.

Regarding sound in movie theaters. Am I just old or have any of you noticed that for a very long time the spoken words in many movies are very low, one can hardly hear people talking, so one has to crank up the volume, and then when something happens and the music comes on it blows out your speakers. I'm 59, and from what I can remember from the movies from the 70's and 80's there was a better balance. I did not have to turn down the volume when the music came in to make a statement. Is this just me or have any of you guys noticed that?
