I wonder if quotes like this also count for the top tier players like magnus etc

@@danebengeschissen Of course they do. For example game 6 of the last WCC. Dubious b3 Catalan opening by Magnus, very drawish endgame, still Magnus won. The computer was screaming 0.00

Hi, at 16:22, after black plays f6, I suggest the reply e4 by white instead of Ng4. The line is extremely sharp and black is much worse in all lines. Those variations make a*b5 compelling to play. Cheers.

I’m a king’s gambit player and some of the lines in your King’s gambit series haven’t been explained well. But I genuinely liked this video because of the depth you have gone through here. A lot of variations and proper explanation. I mean you still didn’t cover a few moves because obviously a 2000 rated player won’t play them. But I bet most audience here is under 1500 so please, when you make more videos, include moves that may look stupid to 2000 players but are in fact played in under 1500 games. Other than that, this series on Catalan is really good. Thank you very much 😇

I think that at 18:20, Qc7 is better than Qc8 is some long term idea, where e5 knight would take longer to attack it, it gives the queen a potential line into the center, and puts it on a dark square which may ward off any tactics involving white's strong bishop pointing into that corner.

In this line, after pawn to B3, a bishop sacrifice on C5 will get u a free knight and threatens the rook simultaneously

What about b4 for black after a4 by white?
@jadouuu67 ай бұрын
at 13:55, after white plays knight c3, why wouldnt black play pawn b4 to make the knight move? I dont understand why black would defend the pawn instead of attacking white's knigh. Can someone help me understand please.
@aayushsaxena10552 ай бұрын
I think because after knight moves to let's say e2. The pawn on c4 is undefended and is difficult to defend.

The variation you recommended: What if black plays f6 kicking the knight away after we play a4?
@jeremyjacoby47543 жыл бұрын
Not sure what spot in the video you're referencing, but I'm guessing Qh5+ pretty much wins (or e4 counter attacking middle knight, exchange, then the h5-e8 diagonal is super weak and ready for queen infiltration, hitting the rook on h8, opening the catalan bishop, and black should resign).

I don't understand why taking on f7 (Nxf7) is a good idea. Can some explain the follow up?
@jhudk2d4 жыл бұрын
At 11:25 you say dxe6 is theoretical move but Kxf7 is preferred move by engine (for white I guess?). You say you don't believe it works but afterwards at 12:10 you say is very interesting and difficult to defend for a human. What did I understand wrong?

I am trying to prepare against a Slav defense player. I thought the Catalan could be interesting be he can always play C6 instead of E6 and stay within his preparation. Anyone can help me figure out a way to get a Slav player off guard? Against E4 he plays the Caro-kann.
@HangingPawns4 жыл бұрын
Play the exchange slav with early Qb3. Most people end up having their bishop on c8 for a while, or playing g6 Bg7m which is sub optimal.

I play QG with white, so i was thinking of learning the Catalan for a while as a different idea for my repertoire. You just started making videos about it when i decided to learn it. Now I'm using all the videos you make for this series as prep. Thanks for the great analysis. Do you have any tips for a Queens Gambit player thats starting out with the Catalan? I am currently nervous about when black keeps the pawn, as in the QGA i always can win the pawn back. Thanks in advance!

Hi , hanging pawn , you don't show the important line after black plays b5 that is ,(Bg2, b5), then a4 ,c6, Ne5,Nd5,0-0,Bb7, e4,Nf6, b3,cxb3, axb5,cxb5, Qxb3,(attacking the pawn on b5),a6,then d5,. It leads to a powerful attack to black king

When white plays Nc3 can't black play b4 instead of a6?

I have just doubled down on my chess improvement journey, by transitioning to d4. I was uncomfortable with playing e4, and was searching for a different look. A friend of mine suggested the Catalan, I had never heard of it before, as one of your other viewers commented on. I immediately felt comfortable with this after looking at a few games by Kramnik. The theory behind it doesn't scare me either, which is a first. I love your channel and all your content, keep up the amazing work!!!
