Get instant access to ALLEGAEON multi-tracks and Dave Otero's Session ► nailthemix.com/allegaeon
Dave shows off the power of the NAM (Neural Amp Modeler) and explains how to use it. This is taken from our "Mix Lab" content, where we show bite-sized tutorials on mixing techniques, plugins and gear.
NAIL THE MIX is an online mixing school created by Joey Sturgis, Joel Wanasek and Eyal Levi - the guys who produced bands like TDWP, Chelsea Grin, Blessthefall, Machine Head, Monuments, Miss May I, Of Mice & Men, Reflections, Born Of Osiris, Asking Alexandria and dozens more of this generation's best metal bands.
Every month, NAIL THE MIX members get exclusive access to the REAL MULTI-TRACK SESSIONS from a REAL ALBUM, and a 6-8 hour live streaming class from the producer who mixed it. These are the actual sessions by bands like Gojira, Meshuggah, Periphery, Opeth, Fall Out Boy, Bring Me The Horizon, A Day To Remember and more - and NTM is the only place in the world you'll get access to them!

That statement on the noise gate is 100% correct - best have the "leanest" signal chain possible when reamping.

and yeah and EQ in front of it to kill most of the nasty frequencies that may be there you don't wanna be overdriving all that bass and hiss down the chain anyway :D hell, when you have a really tinny/skinny stratocaster sound, you can still use a slight bit of overdrive to generate new harmonic overtones that weren't there, still better than feeding in inharmonic shite noise :D

Holy crap this is super cool! Love the deep dive into the working of this. Machinelearning (I refuse to call it "AI" ) is being purposed for such cool projects, but I never even thought about amp modeling but it makes total sense! I wonder how long it will take until you just load in a professional mix in your home DAW and it auto-mixes and masters to a (near-)complete state.

This was filmed in June 2023 at the latest (judging from the NAM version here) so it's quite out of date on many things ;) Nb : they should put a disclaimer on the filming date in the video description btw

I've gotten a few drive-amp-cab models to ESR < 0.01, but anything that gets close to blocking distortion, or noisier in general (cranked plexi) seem to struggle.

Training with wav 3 is giving me very good results for amp+cab :) Better than ToneX (and obviously Quad Cortex)

it's free, which you can spend the 1.6k like you would on a kemper for a decent laptop/PC (which shouldn't be really expensive if you can find used, which can pack you with i7 or Ryzen 7), interface, headphones and/or monitors (given there are plenty budget ones like Kali LP6), and maybe DAW of choice. I'm guessing the way you need to pay for NAM is for the models, really.

The one massive downside I see with NAM is the input level gain. Each and every capture is likely recorded with differing levels of input gain, and if we don't have a way to reference that it is almost impossible to replicate the correct gain staging of the captured amp with the audio interface.

04:10 your are saying that NAM does good job only as an amp section. So I disagree because there are profiles that are amp+cab & I could say that sound superior to any other profile ( and generally better than any other plugins like Tonex or hardware like Neural Cortex). I am saying that not as a fanboy or something. You need time to check some profiles that are amp+cab that sound like nothing else out there. You know bad results are on the guy that making the profile. I would recommend you which profiles are 10/10 in sound if you are interested, but I would say take your time and try to find the good ones by yourself! The same problem was also in the Kemper - Cortex - Tonex community. Few guys can achieve the best results!
