Thanks you unfa. KZbin recommended me your videos a year ago and since then I started to learn how to use Linux and make music on OSS. So far, I have an older PC running with Debian 10, a working FireWire Audio Interface and Ardour running which I compiled myself. Thank you so much for your videos!

Thanks for another good video! I had a lot of the bits and pieces of this info floating around in my head but this helps tie it all together. I've switched over to Ardour recently from Reason and have been using a lot of the calf lv2 plugins. I'm still getting to know the plugins that come with Ardour. I do like some of the ladspa plugins too. I'm a believer in listening and not getting swayed by the visualizations but sometimes what sounds right doesn't seem like it should be right when I'm looking at the visual representation and it's hard not to be swayed by it.

L'équivalent de Steven Slate audio trigger 2 existe t'il chez LV2 ou LAPSA. Merci d'avance et bravo pour ton travail.

I forgot... I also use only open source software and plugins but there are tons of free VSTs available nowadays so I use them with Vestige in LMMS (Wine required).
@tranceangel74805 жыл бұрын
Thank you! This video is pure gold to me. At the moment, I'm using LMMS/Vestige (Wine) with Windows Vsts (Linux Cinnamon 64 bit). As you know, Vestige in Linux can only allow to play 32 bit Vsts and not 64 bit (I don't know why). I tried to find a workaround by attempting to use Carla with native plugins (many are great) however, the set up is very complicated for me and I haven't found a helpful and concise tutorial yet. I will have to watch your video over and over again because you gave a lot of useful and important information which I didn't know (I'm pretty new to the Linux world. I started in June 2018). I forgot, I still don't have a midi controller because I live in Cambodia and for some odd reasons everything imported is incredibly expensive here so I have to rely on my laptop keyboard :-( but as soon as the sun rises again for my situation I'll get one!
@RobvandenBerg2905695 жыл бұрын
pro tip : if you really need the windows vst. Install carla-git , make sure you've installed *all* dependencies and enabled the bridges in the "experimental" tab, check the config in carla for that. Open carla stand alone version, load vst, right click on vst -> export single plugin to lv2 . Now your daw will find the windows vst plugin, but thinks it's a native linux lv2 plugin. Please note that Carla 2.0 is out soon, so you won't need carla-git but just carla.

@@RobvandenBerg290569 Thank you, I will try it though I must confess that Carla is a bit complicated for me. In fact I tried to use it a few times but only once I managed to get it to work and then I had to reinstall the system for a problem and I forgot what I did that made Carla work. I'm going to wait for the next Carla. Also, in the past, Carla 32 dependencies automatically uninstalled wine for some reason so in the end I decided not to use it.I had to install Carla 32 for the 32 bit Vst usage. Now, it desn't do it anymore. Anyway, I'll try your way and see if I get it to work. Thanks for the tip!

@unfa003 жыл бұрын
Hey! PipeWire is not fully stable yet, and also - consumer use-cases are a priority, so fro audio production you may have trouble with PipeWire right now. It will for example fail when you try to export from Ardour (due to the freewheeling mode that Ardour uses not being implemented yet).

how do i run native .so linux vsts? A lot of the free ones come with a linux version and it's just an .so file that never scans into ardour.
@unfa003 жыл бұрын
You need to put these .so (Shared Object - kinda like Windows'DLL) files into a directory where Ardour (and other hosts)can find them. Easiest one is ".vst" inside your user's home folder. After you do that - make sure to perform a plug-in scan in Ardour.

Does each distro store Ardour plugins in a different directory? I've been trying to compile the excellent looking LV2 plug-in Noise Repellent, but I can't get it to compile on Ubuntu Studio, so I tried downloading a zip and extracting it in the LV2 directory, it shows up in Ardour after a scan for plugins, but when I launch it, I get an error. When I search online, it appears where the LV2 plugins are stored, is all over the place depending on the distro? Is this true or did I misunderstand something, again?!
@unfa004 жыл бұрын
The problem with using a plug-in binary built for a different Linux distro is it might be expecting different versions of libraries to be present in the system, and hence might fail to load. So called statically-linked builds have all the dependancies bundled within.
@unfa004 жыл бұрын
Also - usually LV2 plugins reside either in /usr/lib/lv2 or in ~/.lv2/ (a hidden subdirectory in user's home directory).
@owenpeery27884 жыл бұрын
@@unfa00 How do you know which distro something is built for in Github? I am new to this, but I thought that plug-in was built for Ardour and would work on any version of Ardour. I didn't realize it had to be a specific distro too. I assumed that if I download the ZIP file, and put it in the right directory, that it would work. I get it to show up in the plugins manager, and I can even select it, but when I try to add it to a track I get an error. Does this mean Noise Repellent won't work in Ubuntu Studio? Do you have any other plugin suggestions for noise removal? When I edit the Mintcast podcast in Audacity I use the Noise Reduction effect and want to find something similar for Ardour.
@unfa004 жыл бұрын
@@owenpeery2788 I am not entirely sure, but usually if you download plugins in binary form, they are compile din such a way that they should work everywhere, though if you compiled them on a specific system (say - Arch Linux) and then copied them to another (Ubuntu Studio) it *could* be a problem if you didn't specifically tell it to be statically linked. Again: I'm not sure, I haven't tried this. Noise Repellent should work on Ubuntu Studio, but I am not sure if there's binary packages of it for Ubuntu Studio, maybe you'd need to compile it from source. Also: I do not know of any other libre noise removal plugin (except for Speech Denoiser, which is from the same creator).

It's hilarious, take any video of someone talking with an accent and put it at 1.25 speed. Magically their voice becomes completely normal. Lol elongating speech intentionally to have an accent is such a weird thing in this day and age. Just be you dawg. Nobody that's real likes that funny talking stuff anyways. Only in movies are women even attracted to that nonsense. It's not a flex, it's just strange.

I talk slower to avoid mistakes, stutters and primarily to make it easy to understand for people with varying backgrounds. I've recently learned that it's common for foreigners to speak slower and more "precisely", while natives take a lot of shortcuts and blend words together. My motivation here is purely to make the videos easier to follow. It's great that you can up the playback speed and not loose anything, but I assure you, that many people from all around the world do appreciate the slower style. I don't always speak this slow either. On livestreams I am going faster I think.
