This was so useful thank you! I'm turning 18 next year and don't think going to a "traditional uni" would suit me very well. Plus I want to go straight into employment so studying part time would be a great way to fit getting a degree into my life. I feel like the flexibility would really suit my style of learning. Would you say its a supportive system despite being independent learning? Also do you have a video on how you fit study around your life?

I'm so glad to hear it's all so well laid out and planned, so I don't have to worry about if I'm doing too much or not enough. I would love to watch a video where you go more in depth with your experience. I have a question (if you see this) Are you taught how to write for the assessments? Academic writing. I did psychology at AS Level but did badly because even though I knew enough about the subject I didn't know how to write for the exams and I lost a lot of marks over it. Thanks

I'm 30, my son was diagnosed with autism 6 years ago then with cancer last year...he's In partial remisson. I spent most of my 20's being a carer for my son. Now I'm at the point where I want a fulfilling job and ironically I feel that the last 6 years in particular have set me on course for my career as a clinical physcologist. I spent most of my years observing the different NHS sectors, multi disciplinary assessments, emergency medicine, oncology, surgical & more importantly...Physcology, then dealing with schools and my sons special needs, sensory issues, triggers, behaviour etc. In terms of acamedia I've literally started from the bottom, retaking GCSE English, Maths, physcology, human biology and science, then my A levels in Physcology, sociology and English lang/lit...then I'm going for my undergrad phsyc degree. On the side I do Bank work at a care home which encompasses residents on end of life, dealing dementia, etc and i also volunteer at my local hospital to just sit and talk with patients, all of this helps with my human face to face experience. I've always been facinated with human behaviour in adults and children alike and I'm really excited to see where I end up in a decade, it's never too late!

Im in my second year of Business specialized in Accounting at the OU so its just my experience. Right now the tutorials and get togethers are not going on face to face due to Covid. But there is an entire student association with clubs, you will probably have tutor group forums and module forums as well (module forums are general forums for everyone in the module, tutor group is a small group you are divided into with a dedicated professor you can ask for help and marking assignments) and they can be pretty active, in some modules the students set up whatsapp groups to socialize and discuss things so you can look into those too and if you attend online tutorials and library session and choose to participate it can also be a pretty rewarding and social experience interacting with everyone. Hope it helps.

I’m having such a hard time doing A-levels. I’ve just finished 1st year but I never got chance to sit AS exams due to covid. I can’t carry on with sixth form and I don’t want to start them again so I think this is the way I am going to go.

Hey there, thank you for this informative video on the topic! May I just pose you a question: I work at the moment full-time in a hotel, and my employer is willing to give me three days off to ensure I get the 18 to 24 hours for the part-time course I want to take; how is the studying scheduled? Can I study on my days off, and with the planner try to "book ahead" my future days away from work with a couple of weeks of leeway? Would that work? Thank you again, and all the best!

Thank you. I have just completed a foundation year in university looking to switch to psychology. I have also enrolled on the OU to study the same course. I believe the year at Uni has helped me understand academic writing . Do you know what Referencing style they use for psychology, in Uni it’s APA 7th . Many thanks
