Grateful to all who developed this program, keep it upgraded regularly and provide support like Mr Macintosh. Changes to the MacOS and hardware have occurred so fast and often that I have needed to maintain an Intel based Mac to get simple things done like needing a basic Android phone emulator for an app used for running administrative stuff where we live.

Hello. Unfortunately, some people can't help but get unnecessarily upset. They should slow down a bit. You're doing a great job keeping the "old boxes" running and you say it yourself, 99% of users are delighted about it! (Me too!!!) I have a flashed and upgraded 4.1 Pro and thanks to your help it runs very well!!! For emergencies, I have the last working original system on a hard drive and regularly make backups of the current system. (Fortunately, I've never needed them so far.) You're doing a great job!!! I bought an old high spec iMac running Sonoma with the patcher already installed, so when it offered me an update for the patcher I clicked on it and it downloaded in just a minute. However, when I switch on now it tells me I'm running an out of date patcher. I just cancel the message but it keeps coming back. I really don't know what to do. I'm in my 60's now and don't have a clue about this stuff. I bought the mac after being assured it was future proof and would keep me going for a few years with no major upgrades. I fear I might lose stored material from it. Can you offer any advice, many thanks.

Thanks for the tips, and yes I agree that the people involved with OCLP are doing a fantastic job, allowing us to keep using perfectly good computers after Apple has decided they are obsolete. I've been using OCLP for the last 6 months on my Mac Pro 5.1 running Monterey and everything was fine until yesterday. When I got the message that OCLP 2.1.2 was available I went ahead and installed it on my OS SSD. Upon rebooting and manually selecting the SSD EFI the Mac froze and I had to do a force quit. I rebooted using the USB drive I originally used to install Monterey (OCLP version unknown) with the same result. I rebuilt the OCLP installer with version 2.1.2 on my 2011 Mac Mini running Sonoma and managed to reboot the Mac Pro with it. Since the Mac Pro was using OCLP 2.1.1 it offered me to install 2.1.2 to the SSD, which I did and then rebooted. Unfortunately the computer still freezes if I try to boot from the SSD EFI, although all is fine if I use the EFI from the USB installer. If I try to manually root patch I can see that 2.1.2 is installed, but even going through the process again makes no difference. Any ideas what might be wrong? Once again, thanks for all the help.

This is why I hold out on updates in production machines. There's no need to immediately move to a new version as soon as it comes out unless it's a critical security patch. Also, I don't get why people are getting mad on the developers, mistakes happen, and this is a FOSS project so it's not like they're doing this as their full-time job. I'm not saying that we should be eternally grateful and kneel in front of them, it's just that we should give them more leeway since they're just doing this out of the passion for keeping the old Macs alive.

Great video wish we could send some of the more panic ridden users back to 1985 so they can see what it was like trying to get dialup to work on an os with broken drivers. I digress. I was thinking wouldn’t it be awesome if open core legacy patcher added bootcamp (like) functionality to the patcher as a settings enabled feature. Collecting system modules and allowing them to be Linux or windows loadable. There are so many users complaining about newer systems and bootcamp an open source project like opencore could adopt one more feature and possibly recruit more people because of it.

Here's how I fixed it when this happened to me a few days ago: 1. On a SEPERATE Mac install the most updated Patcher version. 2. Create a USB with the EFI configured for the Mac that had the EFI corrupt. (Ex. My Mid 2014 15" MBP corrupted, booted up a 2012 Mac Mini and created a USB with the EFI for my 2014 15" MBP on it.) 3. Use the USB to then boot the corrupted machine IN SAFE MODE. 4. Once in safe mode on the machine that corrupted, reinstall OpenCore EFI and Patches WITH DEFAULT SETTINGS. 5. Reboot to apply and then it should work perfectly. At least it did for me! (For me it wouldn't even boot into recovery mode....)

Honestly I installed Sequoia on my Mid-2012 13 inch MacBook Pro (16GB RAM, 240GB SSD) around the time it launched and it was a bit slow, but I didn’t mind because my Mac shouldn’t even be running it, I’m so happy there’s developers out here who keep these old machines running. macOS Sonoma didn’t run too well on my Late 2009 13 inch MacBook Pro (4GB RAM, 1TB HDD) but that could be because I had an old Toshiba hard drive in there and it’s kinda slow. My friend has the MacBook currently but I might be getting it back from him so I’ll try the new updates for the patcher on it. OCLP is the reason why I haven’t bothered to buy a newer MacBook even though my 2012 is falling apart. I have been debating on upgrading to a 2015 one maybe a 15 inch so I have a bigger screen, if I can I’m gonna get one with 16GB of RAM since those aren’t upgradable. SSDs are somewhat simple to replace the only thing is that you need an adapter if you use a standard PC SSD since Apple loves their proprietary interfaces. You’re the one channel I go to for updates on OCLP and I’m happy that you keep us all updated.

@walterb.92902 ай бұрын
@@billcarriere Your machine doesn't boot because it can't find the Opencore EFI. In such cases - whatever caused it to forget the EFI location - you can always have a little old USB sticky of maybe 16 megabyte (really old) with the correct EFI on it, that will boot your machine. Just run OCLP and select that USB stick as the target where to put Opencore. Then, when starting the mac, hold down Alt-key to get to the mac bootpicker and select that external boot-EFI, et voila, running Opencore, hit escape and choose your boot drive ! Frankly even with the app bugs aside, I would not recommend giving a patched system to someone who doesn't know how to backup or recover it. It's a patched system, it's not official, it can break at any time with macOS updates and whatnot, since Apple consistently keeps changing parts of the OS which keep breaking existing patches. However if you still want to do that, disable all automatic macOS updates including downloads (this should be done with OCLP in any case, macOS has recently started modifying the system volume already during an update download which leads to a version mismatch with broken patches) and maybe even OCLP updates in the "App" tab, keep it frozen in time until you have time to update it manually.

@@kfung36 No cracks, the feature is very tightly integrated into the T2, the T2 is its own chip running an OS. The only thing that could even be thought about being possible is emulating the chip but that would significantly tank the performance on these older systems since you're now spending CPU resources to run a secondary OS all the time and the work involved to make an emulator would probably not be feasible in the first place.

Clever people wait for a couple of updates to both Sequoia and OCLP before installing (especially if they don't have a spare Mac in case something goes wrong). I have 3 Macs at Sonoma and i'll install Sequoia after a couple of months when everything will be working fine...

Aside from the vids on OCLP, do you have vids on how to prep boot media, install/troubleshoot dual boot with Windows on unsupported Mac's? I was thinking of doing said setup on my 17" mid 2010 mbp.

Hi, Keep up the good work OCLP! I was wondering if the problem I'm experiencing is to do with OCLP? I have a 15" MacBook Pro 2016 currently running Sequoia 15.1 with OCLP. I can connect to the internet via wi-fi and ethernet but Finder can't see network devices. I have a Raspberry Pi file server and I could connect to it ok before the recent 15.1 update. Since the update Finder can't connect anymore. I can ping the server in Terminal and connect to the server using Owlfiles app, but Finder can't connect. Should I report this issue or is it a known issue? TIA

I've connected to Discord and in spite of all their help I still cant get my MacPro 4.1/5.1 to upgrade from Monterey. My MacPro had a Saphire 580, dual CPU and 128G of RAM. Works fine with Monterey but I have the upgrade itch. I tried upgrading to both Sonoma and Sequoia without success. I do have OCLP 2.1.2 installed. After creating an installer using OCLP and I try to boot with the OPTION key depressed, all I get is a blank white screen and it is stuck there. I tried doing the method you describe in one of your videos, with the NVRAM reset and booting with only the installer USB stick in, then following with the insertion of the drive to host the OS, and after the instaIl starts I get stuck on the apple logo and nothing happens. Please help! Thanks in advance. YOUR VIDEOS ARE GREAT! Please keep them coming!

Hi guys, you do so great thinks to let us use our older Macs. Is there any idea from you to do similar work for iPads? A lot of people have fine iPads at home, bit they can not use the latest software and can not update single apps like browsers etc. May be you can help us with these problems.

Weirdly, I had difficulty installing this patch. Late 2013 MBP 2.4 i5, 8 GB RAM. I was on 2.1.0 which I installed before updating to macOS 15.1. So, I wanted to upgrade to 2.1.2. However, when I first tried, I got errors that the download wouldn't download, then the install ran and got stuck for an hour on updating scripts, so I forced a close and reboot after which I went to Github to download and then installed. It was kind of a mess.

Hello Mr. Macintosh, Thanks for your video and the tips of applying OCLP 2.1.2 ! I understand my inquiry might be not directly related to this video due to my workhorse needs to stay with OS 14 Sonoma for running Logic Pro. May I still have your advice on how to update my MacOS from existing 14.6.1 to the latest one 14.7.2 which I just checked and found it's available from OCLP today to download the installer (even Apple seems only officially offering 14.7.1, but not 14.7.2). Regarding security, I think I should update my Mac but I wonder if I should download the installer from OCLP and install it via a USB drive or just updating it via the existing System Settings ? For former approach, do I need to also download the KDK first since last time when updating the OS from 14.5 to 14.6.1, my mac was stuck at the last stage and staying in the black screen (even some other users were able to updating it without the black screen). It took me 3 days to find the solutions (i.e. the KDK patcher). So I am a bit of worry this time. Sorry for asking this and would like to have your advice before the update. Many thank for your reply.

Hi Mr. Macintosh, This afternoon, I updated my OCLP from 1.5 to 2.1.2, and since then the AirPlay Receiver disappeared from the System Settings Panel. After couple of tests, it still didn't appear. At the end, I booted my Macbook to another volume which is Monetary 12.7.5 (I have 3 OSs in my Macbook 😃) and then I also found that the AirPlay Receiver is gone in MonetaryOS. So in Monetary, I re-built and installed again OCLP 1.5 with "Allow Spoofing Native Macs" into boot EFI, and after doing that AirPlay Receiver "appeared" again in both OS!! So I wonder if there are still some minor bugs in OCLP 2.1.2 regarding AirPlay Receiver. Hope this report can help a bit of the OCLP team. Thanks again.

@@oneguy.2046 There are no bugs, FeatureUnlock is now disabled by default for stability reasons which includes that feature, it was stated in the changelog. Enable it in settings and rebuild OpenCore.
