dont know why this has never come up before to me. Brilliant to see..thanks for posting. Keep on keepin on is what inspired me to pick up the guitar at 24 years old and is the only song of somebody else's I play and sing. As soon as I heard it I knew it would be with me forever in that place inside which sits so deep that radiates out a feeling of invincibility. I always took the song as a meaning of individual rights and freedoms not a left wing mantra. It seems that there was friction in the band Chris Dean obviously wanting full lyrical control which must have been frustrating but to be fair the lyrics of keep on keepin on are a down to earth direct piece of biblical genius. The whone band producing in that song, without doubt the greatest protest song ever played. One of the greatest songs of all time in my opinion. Great to hear buzzCocks were an influence a great band. Never really liked or believed in the Clash Thank you Redskins for your totally inspiring songs which I know influenced atleast one life

This interview shows what a nice, modest bloke Martin is. I saw The Redskins three or four times in the eighties and loved their attitude and their music. I wasn't a socialist then and I'm even less so now, but their album 'Neither Washington Nor Moscow' was, and still is, a regular listen for me. Their commitment to their cause was impressive and unwavering, but Chris Dean was complicated, too single-minded and often, unnecessarily provocative, so they weren't a regular on TV or the radio, had personnel problems and inevitably, split too soon. Even so, if they were around today in our currently divided society, I reckon they'd go down a storm!

Saw the Redskins at a packed out Fat Sams in Dundee, brilliant live band and a brilliant album, shame they only did one album but it's stood the test of time. Great interview

Man, what a fucking band. It's such a shame Chris Dean just disappeared off the face of the earth. These guys were one of the major things that forced me towards radical left wing politics, and they keep me sane in a time when the political spectrum is shifting to the right.

Went to see this band many times around London and was a big fan.I would Have been amazed at the time to hear that Chris Dean was full of himself and wanted to write love songs. However at the age of 54 it does not surprise me at all. People will always end up disappointing you in the end. Great interview BTW

I'm obviously coming very late to this discussion but having spent a good couple months in close contact with Chris, Martin and Paul while co-producing Neither Washington Nor Moscow I detect some revisionist history here. While Martin is correct that all three members contributed to the "success" of the band I don't think that Chris Dean's contributions can be overstated. Chris wrote and sang the songs. He was the most effective spokesman for the band and while perhaps being somewhat self absorbed he was a powerful presence and was central to the essense of the band. Warts and all. What few people experienced was the band's sense of humor. They were enjoying their moment in the sun. After all these decades and a lifetime of experiences Chris still crosses my mind often.

That must have been great would have loved to have been there, at times anyway, as I'm sure it was all a massive ball ache at certain creative points, especially if chris was the main man. Did lyrics of KOKO change when Chris aimed it at the miners strike? I have the single the demo or epilogue or something similar, very different to released single is this truly the I initial demo of the song..where was album recorded? Thanks kevin

Also if you have any memorabilia from the studio recordings etc however small or insignificant you could bear to part with I would love it even if it was something like a pen or pencil that might have been used etc.

@@caroldubreuil5136 Not heard that one. I heard he lived in Paris, but totally unconfirmed. If anyone knows Martin Howard of Queen Mary College that would be cool too. We went to a few Redskin concerts together. Life was much more simple then!
