as for getting worse things in the beginning, I'd wager that comes down to bad luck + vehicles you already got being removed from the pool (since you can't get a vehicle twice) meaning if you get a vehicle you like the most for a specific rarity you will then only be able to roll that chance for vehicles you don't have for that rarity (thus, meaning you got your 'best pick' meaning every next pick is worse)

this is why i much perfer how they handle it in warthunder mobile it is still super shitty but how they do it is after say 10 rolls on the more expensive crate per season (each season is a month long) then you automattically get the top reward for it as a fail safe mechanic. you can earn the keys for those better crates by grinding the battlepass or lucky in the smaller crate but yea still super expensive to buy but at least you know you can get the top reward (there is a middle crate for a mid tier reward as well which has the same thing just higher like 30 max spins for a ganrateed)
