What people missed about the updated flight model is that most of the buffs were in the combat flaps so they work better. Now you can set to “combat flaps” with the wings swept back and the slats will deploy separately around 45 degrees, transitioning between forward and back sweep will separately raise and lower the main flaps as well so you don’t need to think about when is the right time to use them. Basically, you just want to deploy combat flaps on the runway and just leave them on the whole match. Hope I can be of help :)

10:52 Fun fact (off topic because Donut haven't made a vid on Su-27 yet) The N001 and N019 was rather primitive for its time, even by Soviet standard, mainly because it was practically designed and push into production in very short time using mostly off-the-shelve stuffs as a placeholder until those guys at NIIP cooked up a system for the Su-27 based on the same technology they use to cooked up the Zaslon. Alas, perestroika kicked in, fucked the entire system, and canned the project alongside the entire union, leaving the Su-27 with N001 for decades.

At the time the Tornado entered service, the F-15 was a pure air superiority with 'no pound for air to ground'. Non-existent then was the twin-seat ground attack variants, it would take nearly a decade after the Tornado entered service for the F-15E to enter service providing the type with a proper air-to-ground capability. F-111 and F-14 otherwise were not flexible enough and also more expensive than the Tornado - they were some of the most expensive types in the air at the time. F-14s prohibitive costs would preclude its operation by the British whom initially considered the type, and also would spur on creation of the F-18 as a lower-cost alternative to the F-14 for the USN. F-111 was also initially to be procured by the British, though its order would be cancelled on cost grounds. Please do note that Tornado was not a fighter design but an MRCA, it birthed that name. Its design cut the RAFs operational fleet from multiple different types to fewer, decreasing overall fleet costs. In British service it replaced the Lightning Interceptor, the Phantom Fighter, the Buccaneer Attacker, and the V-bomber force - all with one parent design aircraft. Really, it did the job of both the F-111 and F-14 at a cheaper price. Though multirole, its design definitely favoured the low-altitude dash and ground attack capabilities, though that did not compromise her other capabilities. Note that she precedes the swing-role aircraft of today, hence the different role-specific variants. Tornado was not quite an air superiority fighter like the F-15s and F-16s, as the era it was developed and in service in, saw air-to-air combat and air superiority be really quite the difficult undertaking for smaller air forces and even for larger air forces. The Tornado's sweep wings and automated, no-hand low level flying made her an incredible low-level interdictor - that was a very relevant capability at the time. Flying low often precluded aircraft from targeting by radar guided munitions and detection by radar - ground or air based. Ground-based air defences were also often more-so pitched to defend against high or medium altitude targets; low level targets at the time required very advanced radars and missiles to intercept, though admittedly there was a vulnerability to prolific MANPADs. Ships of the era were specifically very, very vulnerable to sea-skimming low-altitude aircraft, as the British proved during the Falklands. Air to air combat was also not such a given back then, for a number of reasons. For a fighter to intercept an uninterested high-speed low-level interdictor required a decent bit of luck and a concerted, strategic air defence effort. They were difficult to detect and track with radar and then visually, they were difficult to follow upon making manoeuvres getting onto their tail, and they were also difficult to target and shoot down with missiles or guns as they make manoeuvres amongst the terrain and pop countermeasures. When the F-15 entered service the only missiles it initially had were rear-aspect only aim-9Js; when the F-16 and Tornado entered service the all-aspect aim-9L would start seeing its first deliveries but it as with preceding missiles, were very easy to seduce with countermeasures or just with manoeuvres. That would remain the case until the 90s, really. Airspace was never really truly secured until then, low-level interdictors required incredible resources be spent on them to even attempt an intercept - especially if they're granted an escort. That all aside... The Tornado had an excellent STOL capability thanks to her sweep wings and thrust reversers. Her avionics and sensor suite was also really quite excellent for air-to-ground missions, reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and for self defence. The Tornado's electronic suites should generally be considered better to what then equipped the preceding American teen-series aircraft variants. Regarding her engine reliability, it was not stellar but neither were the engines of the early American teen-series fighters and other comparable aircraft. As with the American engines, by the time the Gulf War rolled around their engine problems were largely resolved as they would prove very reliable.
