Thanks you so much for your kind comment. I should have mentioned that the Kua lengthens and opens vertically as well as horizontally. Perhaps I could mention that in a future video! I will have to add it to the description below the current video!

At 5:45 you talk about the weight bearing (full) and empty leg. The weight bearing leg is the yin leg, the gathering, closing, filling leg. The empty leg is the yang leg.

Dear William Thanks for your observation. I believe that the weight bearing (full) leg, also called the substantial leg is considered Yang and the non weightbearing (empty) leg, also called the insubstantial leg is considered Yin. Regards Rosalind

@@TaiChiExercisesbyRosSmithHi Ros, The leg is becoming more yin as it fills with chi energy and is becoming more yin as the movement progresses. It starts out as yang (empty). You specifically call it "The weight bearing leg", which means that the leg has become yin. You also state "the empty (ish) one is the yin leg".... Phrasing and semantics are critical since the system is always in motion. I hope this clears things up. Bill P.

@@Tasmanaut "....Do you ever find yourself running on empty? Does it feel like you are on the go all the time, lots to do and yet finding it hard to get meaningful work done? Do you have difficulty letting go and relaxing? Do you find you rarely have time alone? You may be suffering from what the Taoists call empty yang. This is an ancient understanding but has so much relevance to modern lifestyles, perhaps more so than ever. Let’s start with the basics. Taoism and Chinese Medicine are based on an understanding of opposite energy forms in life, which are called yin and yang. Yin describes when energy is contracted, such as in winter when the life-forms of nature go into hibernation and rest, the energy is stored deep in the seeds underground. In winter humans also contract, drawing the energy in to keep warm. Night time is another yin time when we rest in our beds, our life force energy deep inside the body creating restoration and renewal. Our energy is in a yin state when we are resting, quiet and alone. Yang describes when energy is expanded. In summer energy pours outwards and everything is in full bloom. Flowers are radiant, bees are buzzing in the air, trees full of leaves. There is a fullness as energy expands. People also express this expansiveness by being more social, wearing brighter colours and walking with a spring in their step! Our energy is in a yang state when we are feeling lively, active and social...." www.taotantricarts.com/empty-yang-running-on-empty.html

Very good execise. Just a small correction: there is a word of joint in Chinese: Guan Jie (关节).

you are only talking about actions of the Kua, but it is more important for opening the Kua structure which will create a space, even though it will be tiny, for sinking.

Every language in the world has a word for joints and that includes Chinese.

Hi! Thanks for your input and pointing this out. I am sure you are right. I did ask a qualified acupuncture teacher who was Chinese and that was his answer. Maybe I misunderstood him?! Maybe he just meant that the Kua was not the hip joint but the area of the groin/inguinal area etc.
