@themattyman3 - the loco was about £45, the large wagons are from a local shop called Trident Trains and were about £18 each.

great video Will, every heritage railway should own one or more class 08s, good thing many of them are saved, I hope your class 08 will be nice to your steam locomotive unlike one famous class 08 that we all have seen on TV and he is painted black.

@hornbytrainsets - the one that isn't railroad came out years ago, and is now pretty hard to get. So I'm in no rush to go hunting after it, especially as the Bachmann one is so good - but I will get one in time.

The speed of the shunter is exactly what you want. I like the slowness. It's such a lovely model too.

The venerable class 8 in real life is said to be a very sturdy switcher that still is in service to this day. In North America, they would probably be considered a "critter", a small locomotive that is used for the purpose of switching small trains of cars within large industrial sites where a larger switcher would be neither required nor practical (IE mill yards, railcar factories, steel plants, etc)

@legocommander321 - what do they do? Well nothing really, they're just more realistic. Although, having said that, they can actually help if a loco hits a buffer stop or another loco, absorbing some of the impact.
@InterCity82
@InterCity82 14 жыл бұрын
@MrJezza31 - they're by Dapol, and can be found in most good model shops. You can also get them from places online, such as Trident Trains and Hattons.

@randomkid21000 - they are being used on heritage lines tho. Here they're still invaluable. There's one that never stops working hard on the Severn Valley Railway in Shropshire.

My favorite shunter :) ...and in my favorite livery... I'll probably buy a few of these for my new layout, specifically for shunting my endless goods stock around the yard next to the terminus (Furderson Central)! The packaging that Bachmann uses is not at all economical, but at least they keep their high detail, weathered superb 08 safe! :D Another 5***** review! I was going to say that I would pick an 08 up with 2 fingers on each end of the loco but there is even detail (rails) on the back!

Excellent! Bachmann makes amazing models for the price. I saw these on sites for only 50 pounds. Thats only about $85 US dollars. Considering the level of detail, great price.

@irishrail42 - A DCC system conforming to the NMRA standard (based on the Lenz Digital system) is capable of operating one analogue DC train by using address "00". DCC equipped trains will also operate on 12 volts DC, but without any special DCC features.

@capmodesty - I'm really not sure. But I recommend to anyone, that they get more than one controller, and one of those controllers must be an old style DC one. Also, I think more and more people are moving over to DCC so perhaps the old controllers might be phased out completely one day?

Looks like a gorgeuous model, I've got the Bachmann Tornado, and I was thinking of getting City of Truro, but this looks like a really good bargain for the detail.

I have this loco in BR green and it is exellent. The Hornby Class 08 has slightly more detail but I loved the weathered finish in the ltd from Hatton`s, so I got the Bachmann model. And your right it runs so nice!

@Liverpoolfcfever - as far as I know yes. (bear in mind that older models using older tooling from years ago probably don't. For example, there are over 8 different production models of the Princess Royal class locomotive - but 2010's model is very, VERY different from 1948's model. ;)

@InterCity82 I'm normally a North American Railway fan, but the British Gronks are fascinating little rigs. They basically have the same kind of service history as the Alco RS3s: A holdover from the 1950s that still can be seen in operation.

@2009Buzza - Erm, I've definitely never been asked anything about art before. All I can say is people, whether professional or not, usually pick the appropriate tools for the job. Painting a loco can be done however you want. But weathering one can be done with either dusts and powders or paint and an airbrush.

@Whizzer1 - A video on all of the classic 0-4-0T shunters has been made and has entered the queue - which is currently at about 37 videos in size. So it will be some time yet before it gets uploaded - but I am working thru them as fast as I can. :)

@somerandomalex - the camera is not HD. There's no need for a HD camera as true 720p or 1080p HD is simply too big for both uploading and downloading, for times that are realisitc anyway. Even though KZbin thinks this video is HD, it isn't really, and has simply been converted to a format that KZbin likes. But as broadband speeds increase, and HD becomes more proliferated, I'm sure all my videos will switch to true HD, captured in full 1080p HD.

When this came out, I considered this the best loco ever. Compared to my finely tuned Lima model (which would take off like a rocket and still go too fast!), it went so so so so smooooth! Pretty soon I had 5 of them!! However, Hornby trumped the Bachmann model a couple of years later. The windows on the Bachmann model is slightly small, and the couple rods (connecting the wheels) are a bit chunky. I'm not getting rid of the Bachmann models, but I now standardise on the Hornby version.

@matanuialive2010 - it lost out on a point for the packaging being a bit tight, the performance was marred by its wheels getting dirty very quickly and it subsequently suffering on points, plus while its detail was incredible, there were no accessories and no option to take some parts off and put others on.
