I may only take exception to a GWR Castle Class 4-6-0 Tender Engine, but yours is a Great Western Engine and that's what made me smile. I'm a GWR fan, plus the name of the engine, Cadbury Castle, made me think of Cadbury's Dairy Milk Chocolate Bar. She nearly had my mouth watering at the thought, believe me. If she were a chocolate bar, I'd eat her then and there. I'm also a choc-aholic because I can't resist anything chocolaty. I mockingly blame you for making me think of Cadbury's Chocolate.

I love your layout it reminds me of a scene out of Chicago hope -[which ran in opposition to ER]- where a gifted surgeon has a brake down so to feel better he buys 20+ different Lionel train sets and joins them all together and does what you've done on the floor of his office in walks a colleague who starts nervously humouring the surgeon,but the colleague starts having so much fun that together they play trains its very cool.

DCC fitted means the chip is fitted at the factory, DCC ready means there is a socket inside ready and waiting for a chip but it is DC until you actually fit one.

I have the Hornby Cornish Pullman set which which was out last year, only 2 Pullman coaches in that one but the Engine is near identical but different name Llantillio. Runs great, it's DCC ready - love the detail on it and a steel at 89 pound for the set which you can still find today.

@ThomastheE2engine - I run-in locos in DC mode (before I chip them). For trains/locos that have a chip fitted, I recommend a similar sort of speed - basically have the controller between 11 and 1.

I always paint my detail in my locomotive cabs. I don't paint it all one color. I paint it like it would look in a real locomotive cab. one color for pipes and another color for throttle levers and another color for injector levers and so on and so on i'm sure whoever reads this is getting my point. I also cut out the fake coal loads and I put real coal in but it's difficult to get the coal to stay in the tender without falling through the huge hole the cut out coal leaves.
@ZeldaTheSwordsman10 жыл бұрын
If the detail was painted Will would have noticed there's actually rather a lot in this loco.

meme spressions look on my channel. I have some videos. The videos are high def but the lighting where my layout is placed is the problem. Just watch some of my videos and you will see some of my work. My bachmann hog warts express locomotive is my best work in my opinion. Some of my other jobs were rushed for whatever reason. 'Olton Hall' the loco used for the Hogwarts Express was a Hall Class, but for the purpose of the movie named 'Hogwarts Castle', so people jokingly call it the Hall that wants to be a Castle. Hornby however, made their Hogwarts Express model using a Castle class engine, further adding to the confusion and humour.

Roughly how hard is it to DCC a locomotive that wasn't DCC ready (i.e the little tank engines from some of the beginner sets?) I'm really curious, I want to DCC chip most of my engines so they can run on my future railway. It's so majestic.
@SeaToby1110 жыл бұрын
It is a bit difficult, but once you figure out what wires need to be soldered, it is easier. I found opening and shutting the Pocket Rocket tougher to do than solder the wires. If you have never soldered before, get someone who has to do the soldering. Learning to solder with expensive locos isn't wise. I found just barely enough space to place the Hornby 8 pin decoder in front of the motor, behind the smokestack, and above the cogs by sticking it to the bottom of the inside of the boiler with those two sided stick pads..
@SeaToby1110 жыл бұрын

Excellent review. My missus has not long secured this very set off ebay for my b-day. This will be my first foray into model railways (in my mid-thirties!) Seems a good enough start, although I'm not allowed it yet! However, my question is: This set, although a few years old now, has never been used. Aside from the running-in, would you recommend any other measures, oiling etc, prior to use, as it has been sitting in it's box for so long since manufacture? Cheers and keep up the good work.
