Hi everyone! In this video and in honor of mental health awareness month, I wanted to make this video opening up to you a bit more about my journey and what mental health not only looks like, but feels like for me today. I took my mental health day this month and it has reminded me the importance of slowing down and listening to our hearts + bodies when it's telling us to. I hope you know, that you truly are never, ever alone. Sending you all my love. x

Talking about mental health is never easy, especially as a teacher where the culture in education is all about having it together 100% of the time and thats just NOT realistic. Thank you for sharing your journey because I think more people need to know you can be a boss at your job, competent, and responsible and still have things you're working though. Sending good vibes your way and thank you for sharing your story!

This year was the first year where I used a sick day for a mental health day. My work self a year ago before Covid would say “nope absolutely not” to taking a sick day if I wasn’t at least running a fever. But after the past year and working in the education field through Covid it’s taught me that those mental health days are needed. The boundaries are needed or else you won’t be able to give your full effort and attention to your job. Thanks for highlighting the importance of them. You are an incredible person and your vulnerability is so respected and admired. I wish you nothing but the best for the remainder of the school year and for a restful summer break! ♥️♥️

I don’t call it “self care” I call it “soul care” because I need to take care of my soul, as well as my body! I actually wrote a blog post about it lol. It’s something I’m passionate about lol

Second of all you have changed so many lives and I don’t think I could ever explain how much you changed and saved my life! Love you so much Brittany💛💛

My brother died very tragically several years ago and I was a witness to it. I have also dealt with PTSD, anxiety, depression. And I remember wishing the same thing...why couldn't I be who I was before it all happened. I heard a song during this time by Danny Gokey that really helped me work through those struggles: "Yesterday's a closing door, you don't live there anymore. Say goodbye to where you've been, and tell your heart to beat again." Thank you for sharing your struggle, Brittany!

Thank you for this 🤍 I can relate so much. As a first year teacher I struggled so much with burnout that I chose to step away to preserve my mental health. Now I’m doing my Masters in Counselling Psychology and I’m feeling like it’s the right step for me so everything happens for a reason. One of our ethical duties as counsellors is to make self-care a priority and I was so happy to see this outlined clearly. I feel like as teachers we can be so focused on giving to our students that we forget this but it’s not selfish, it’s the responsible thing to do. I resonated so much with this. You are seen, Brit 🦋

Thank you for making this video and being so open about your mental health! Although I will never be able to fully understand what you have been through, I had my share of tough times when I was 22 with my mental and physical health too. I'm 27 now and I started a new job as a middle school teacher this year. Many times I found myself feeling as though I wasn't good enough or didn't suit my job due to my depression. Your positivity has really been a guiding light for me!

I love videos like this! I like how open and honest you are about your journey. I have a question. Could you do a video on how you teach writing? My fifth graders are really struggling with written expression. They have great ideas and are probably my most creative class, but writing (and reading) is very difficult for them. They have come so far though and I am proud of them. :)

And YOU are not alone either. MSD alum is always around if you ever need someone. My sister was in the building above the cafeteria that day (I forget what number that was- I graduated in 03!) but she still has her good days and her struggle days. Sometimes I wish it had happened when I was a student so that my sister wouldn’t have to deal with the repercussions of what happened, but she is so strong and I am so proud of her for getting through it and just finishing her 2nd year at UF. (Sorry but UF > FSU). (Just kidding. Quick fun fact- a current FSU student came into my store up here in Pennsylvania the other day and naturally I heckled him but said it’s all love and some of my best pals from MSD went to FSU!). Anywho. Thanks for the reminder that I, too, need to take a break from managing a retail store. Its very taxing on my body and my mind and my auto immune disorder freaks out when I don’t take a step back to reset (aka right now!). Xoxoxox.

Ms. Brittany, I am neurodivergent, which means that I perceive the world differently and I have stronger senses than most people. I have come to view my condition as a beautiful difference rather than as a disability or disorder. I experience everything deeply and I have developed anxiety over the years. However, I am optimistic and I see love and light everywhere in the midst of the darkness and fear even if others cannot feel it. I find comfort in writing stories and I make time for writing freely even if the quality of my writing is not perfect. I read the stories I have written and realize how real and lively my fictional characters are and I have been told that they feel real to others as well. As long as I can conjure stories with the magic of my pen and the sea of imagination and I can find delight in the whispers of the trees and birds, I can feel infinitely happy and at peace as I am one with myself and the world. I love you

Thank you for talking about this, it is so helpful to see someone on KZbin and Instagram to be so open about struggles! I am a daycare/preschool teacher, I work 9-5:30 every day of the week. It really hit home when you said if we don’t take the hours that we do have, for ourselves it can feel like our life will pass us by. I struggle so much with barely having any time do anything when I get home and I am always so exhausted by the end of the week.

I have been put into a bad situation but when I personally learned about Jesus and my faith in Jesus and the Angels for me personally it actually turned the tables on the situation in general though I still get angry or annoyed because I am not perfect. In my opinion only God is perfect. But then I become stronger and become unbreakable and keep going and over the last few years the situation has turned very much to my favor thanks to the teachings of Jesus and the help of the Angels in my personal opinion.
