I think a big thing is also to be able to read the situation and start slow. If you are with a couple and you see ANY signs of discomfort in either of the partners, back off a little. This also enables you to explore things that have been verbally identified as soft boundaries in such a way that you can actually eventually cross those boundaries. A couple will be much more comfortable playing with you if they find you to be respectful, attentive and intuitive. I once played with a couple and it was their first swinging experience. She was not sure if it was what she wanted although she had always fantasized about it. So, the first night we agreed that sex was off the table but that her husband and I would just massage her. She loved it and that actually became a really great friendship with benefits.
