ah, easily one of the best songs in the series, really paints the picture of what its like for dwarves (and non-humans in general) living in the shadow of human civilization
@ButForMeItWasTuesday2 жыл бұрын
Man hanging out with the dwarves just to chat shit in Vergen's tavern was such a fun time. The Witcher games absolutely nailed the quiet downtime segments that let you just bond with the characters and soak in the atmosphere.

Oh, a fellow Witcher appreciator! :D What I love about Witcher games music is how each game's soundtracks (Thronebreaker included) are similar enough to each other to be able to tell that yep, this is Witcher soundtrack, but also they are distinct enough to tell exactly which game a given track is from.

This song makes me feel as if I'm walking the empty, famished plains of Poland in the early 16th century. Everything is grim and shallow. Full of pain and suffering. There is a lack of food and happiness. No smiles, only bitterness. Everyone is by themselves. But one thing we have is our traditional folk instruments to reflect on that pain and carry on. Witcher is THE best game of all time. I think Polish culture and interest regarding it had grown expanensioaly after the games release.

Witcher 2 was my favorite game for a long time. I got it gifted to me at christmas on steam many years ago. Then back in late 2015 I finally tried it. I loved it! It was amazing, the only single player RPG I had played before was Skyrim. This game had interesting characters, moral dilemmas and decisions that mattered! I finished the game and found out about the book series. Borrowed the books from a library and read them all over the course of the year. I loved them too, probably my favorite fantasy books read. Then I played Witcher 1 (that game has it's own charm, and amazing OST) and replayed Witcher 2. Then I played it 1 more time to get all achievements (including no-death playthrough). Finally it was october 2017 and I waited patiently for Black Friday to come around. I had saved up money and build a pc that could run Witcher 3 (previously stuck on a laptop). I finished the game in January 2018, and the sense of loss was palpable. This Witcher journey had taken me close to 2 years to go through, and now it was over. I felt strangely empty. Over time it has faded, but the Witcher still holds a very dear place in my heart.

Another surprise, how I love the Witcher and its music, really brings up the immersion and reminds you this may be a world filled with magic and creatures but it's not all sparkles and rainbows, the wticher world, the reality they live is harsh and cruel and the they very much know it. But in it also have some sort of hope or mixed in for the future to come for the people in the world, it's crazy and I love it. Another great game series with great music, good food to consume.

i disagree on the third one having the best music. the third's is certainly the most bombastic one but I feel like all 3 soundtracks excel in different aspects. the brooding dark atmosphere of the first one, the dreamy and regal mix of the second and finally the epic and groovy pieces of the third are are all excellent compilations of music.

Funnily enough, with this song I have a sort of folk music feeling, but I'd point more toward Anglo-Saxon folk rather than Eastern European. Pozdrowienia z Polski! As far as I know, for the Witcher games, they borrowed from a lot of different styles from central and eastern Europe. The music styles of Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus etc. generally have a lot in common, and much of that kind of music can be heard in the Witcher games - it's a bit difficult to pinpoint something that would be exclusively Polish. In Polish folk music you will find a lot of string instruments, drums, rattles and bagpipes, and while the Witcher games use that extensively, they also draw from (I believe) musicians imitating ''early slavic/pagan music''. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKiyYYyBrLOmjKM

*Witcher 2* music is good. However having played the series sequentially, the musical themes felt "departed" from the original. In fact the whole game feels like it was developed by a different company (most likely due to their changes in team and directorship). Definitely not saying the game was bad, because it did implement some design elements which I feel should've been in the original *Witcher* in the first place, thus letting me enjoy the gameplay a lot more (I tolerated a lot of the first game's mechanics by gritting teeth tightly). It was with *Witcher 3* did I feel the music "coming home", and then expanding beyond that to greater heights.

The first two Witcher games are too often overshadowed by the third. Which is a shame. Witcher 2, for instance, is still my favourite in the series. Not only is it the truest to the spirit of Sapkowsky's works with it's complex, multifaceted storyline, but the soundtrack is outrageously slept on (the battle themes are probably the most underrated - they are supposed to be dynamic pieces that change depending on the difficulty of the opponent, but because of the way the game is programmed you almost never get to hear the juiciest parts 😆)
