The best part of early, big chorus version of the song in all languages -- it plays at a point when it represents you as being aided in doing something by all of the game's other players across the planet who played online. Each player who helped you deleted their save file and all of their work to do that. The message behind the song is one of togetherness and games being more than "silly little things".

LAG, there is even more to this than you realize. The song is being sang in Japanese (the original language of the game), English (the version for he rest of the world), and Chaos (the language of the game's setting). This connects all of us across worlds real and virtual. The version from Shadowbringers though... that is the language of Eorzea (known as "Forspoken") meaning the peoples of Eorzea add their voices to the chorus of souls.

The Weight of the World is to me, a song of sadness and pain, but something happens with The Weight of The World - The End Of Yorha -. Since you picked the Japanese version for the original run at this song, I’d been wanting to comment about how the chorus in this one is the game’s creators singing. This song is a ball your eyes out kind of piece when you have the context of the game behind it. If you want to go further down the rabbit hole in that regard there are some really great video essays out there, one of which being what introduced me to this game originally. Michael Saba’s is my favorite of them. In case there are any out there who have missed this gem, if you’ve only gone through the game for the first ending, you’re only at the end of the prologue.

The written-for-English lyrics are like a whole different damn song than the Japanese lyrics translated, with the latter being the most emotionally crushing thing I may have ever heard. When I first did Copied Factory, I had never heard this music before, I had never played NieR, but just on the strength of the music alone I was having trouble doing the boss because I was tearing up, it was that damn good. Possibly my favorite boss music in the game. It goes so far as being like... whatever is the last fight you'll have to fight your whole life, it's what you'd want the music to be.

I feel like "We're going to shout it loud, even if our words seem meaningless" is a very profound lyric given the music of this game, and even NieR:Replicant, considering almost every song in this game plays at a specific time, with a special feeling that just so happens to feel like it fits the occasion, and, yet, despite how right they feel, they are nothing. Those songs are meaningless to anybody but Emi Evans. Somehow, however, deep inside we know their meanings. Music is a universal language because it portrays pure emotion without the need for true words. Voice of No Return feels like sitting down after getting bad news and not knowing what to do with yourself. A Beautiful Song is forgetting to ask yourself if the means are worth the end because you'd take and/or destroying anything for that end. Kaine/Salvation feels like the relief of feeling something other than anger, even if that feeling is a profound sadness at knowing your circumstances and what led to them. These songs... are meaningless. No words mean a single thing. Yet, somehow, we can all find our own meanings in them. These songs are meaningless and more meaningful than any piece of scripture that has ever been written, or ever will be, simply due to how many interpretations can be taken from them. TL;DR-> Because the music of NieR is meaningless, they can be interpreted several different ways, more than any normal piece of writing could be. Thus, they are some of the most meaningful pieces of art ever created, simply out of their meaninglessness, and this song highlights it well.

When i heard this song first time, i cried like a little crushed girl.😭 But, i like it more when you're talking in the process, like, after every parts of the song (after every verse for example). It adds dynamic in the process and makes me want to watch the whole video not just parts even if it's harder to edit. Because, you know, i can listen the song all by myself, and i watch your video for your comments, just like the most of the others i guess. Also, i think people likes it even more when you giving us a review of the song and add some professional words about songs lyrics and vocal, because this is separating you from the other music reaction channel and makes us more involved. In any case, that's great video, buddy, i had a great time watching it, Thank you.😁

This song is sooo beautiful in its context, NieR brought me so many emotions and the song mixing languages made me feel closer to people I have never met, but I know shared their hearts with me. The game is a roallercoster of emotions, and in the end you are depressed as fuck, cause no matter what we do, all is meaningless, but we have no regrets as thats not the point. Its always about how we choose how to spend the time we have. If the raid was longer I wouldnt mind.

What I find interesting is that both nier and 14 have similar themes, but in the 2 versions of this theme you can see the different philosophies they answer with. Nier gives us a light contemplation that builds into a roaring chior of acceptance and compassion; it answers with words and thought. Meanwhile 14 goes right from the start, there is no contemplation, just a bold faced battlecry in defiance to fate; it answers with action and and will. But despite these two very different takes, the answer is the same and is sung to the heavens.
@FluffieXStarshine

I think part of that also is how and where they are used in the games, I know with the 14 one as a raid boss theme, it needs to go hard right from the start because of the intensity of the build up in the raid to that point, but also done in a way that can be put on a loop/repeat if the boss fight goes on longer than the song playthrough, and they added the main prelude of light theme in the middle of well.

The way I see it, the End of YorHa starts as an 8-bit song for a ton of reasons. First and foremost it plays in a shoot em up section, one of the oldest videogame genres, like in space invaders, an 8-bit style track fits. There's also the thing that you say, about a simpler time, when the weight of the world didn't feel as heavy. But for me there's also the element that an 8-bit track has a lot of limitations, to the point that most often than not it can only present the melody without any acompaniements, in this way the 8-bit version is alone, on its own fighting against the world (the credits) but then the singers joins and soon enough there's is a whole chorus of people. Just like how you aren't fighting alone anymore at that point of the gameplay, the melody isn't alone anymore.

I commented on a previous video featuring the English version of the song, about how the "End of YorHa" version comes off as humanity's swan song, and once you dig into it, you can see why. Not only do we have current languages in there, but a "future" one in the Chaos language, plus the development team singing that back-up chorus, all while the names of other players can be seen assisting you through their sacrifices as you battle through the credits. The entire experience feels like our entire species coming together for one last hurrah.

The beginning to End of Yorha, to me, sounds like it's explicitly Pod 042's initiating the battle. There's no lyrics because Pods don't (can't?) sing but they can produce music (the sound of hacking). But after awhile, Pod isn't alone. 'He' gains help in spirit by 'his' companions to fight against the end. The longer it goes, the more help Pod receives until it's a chorus of souls all hoping for a tomorrow to live in.

The hardest part of these boss fights? Doing mechanics while sobbing your eyes out. Before Shadowbringers came out, I had already gotten to the [E]nd and deleted my save file. Everything was at peace. 2B, 9S, A2... Finally after so much hell, these three broken souls could rest and have a future that had forever been denied to them from the beginning. And then 9S flew in and told me he was going to kill me. I broke down crying. For me, this boss theme is pain. The vocals sound like they are crying in agony, in equal parts pleading and defiance. Singing these familiar words again, saying that we have come so far and yet history will repeat itself again. The lives of these machines and androids will continue to end in tragedy, despite that I had sacrificed everything so this could never happen again. Then gently, the Prelude tells me that this time will be different. Keep believing, and we will make this dream come to life.

When you play the game, and you went in that raid for the first time (it was probably a bit different when it was new, cause everyone was watching the cutscene etc), it was frigging amazing because it gives you a sense of unity with the other 24 people and hyped you up for the firework of mechanics they dumped on you. I you played Nier, at that point you were also in a Roller Coaster of Emotions with 9S being the final boss, and seeing he was not corrupted by the virus at that point. Weight of the World for me is that one single piece that enabled me to finally enjoy music, to sense the emotion in it. I used to be unemphatic and only listened to music to fill my ears, not to experience it, but the ending of Automata still manages to squeeze a tear from me. It hit the hardest for me on that one final credit scene, you know. The experience was all the more tear dropping because I played on a pirate version, which is cringe, I know, I since then bought it.

Just hit Ending E on a 120 hour quasi-completion run. It felt so... much. I spent nearly 6 straight hours attacking the wall offline, had no idea about the multiplayer aspect. I got internet back, saw all the messages, I haven't felt like that in years. When I saw "Pringle has come to your aid" I was shaking. And when the end came... it felt right, watching it all go.

One of the fun parts as well with this is that they made this Cannon in both universes ... so that's an interesting bit. I do love the fact they added the Final Fantasy Prelude of Light into it as well. Prelude of Light is from every Final Fantasy game, not just 14.

To these songs feel so different and yet so similar. Both songs are, obviosusly, about the end of the world, and how the MC is fighting and trying to carry it, but the difrrence is that in the OG WotW, the Mc is alone and regretting the fact she couldn't save people precious to her.... after fighting on her own. She feels as if she's the only one that could carry it. But, on the other version? It's like WE are ALL carrying it together and fighting for it. Not so long into it, when you said they were calling back, to me it was like when a battalion says "we will be the victors!" and the battalion agrees stating they WILL be victors. This song, to me, is a song about carrying this huge load TOGETHER. A few weeks ago I read a comment on the og version of WotW: End of Yrha: "the weight of the world isn't so heavy when we carry it together". This song is just about that.

I think the most beautiful thing about the original Japanese version of Weight of the World is that at 4:16 in the full song (Timestamped: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqTOZHeKmbmMabs ), the singer (Marina Kawano) found the lyrics so powerful while singing that she just starts crying while singing, and they decided to keep it in. that reason specifically is why the original Japanese version of the song is my favorite, but the Final Fantasy Prelude Version comes very close to being my favorite, if only just

As of making this comment, I haven't even played a Nier game; that being said I still can't hear this song without tearing up. There's only been a few songs that have done that to me period, and most of those I had context/experience for(Answers from FFXIV, Pain from Xenosaga Episode 1 as examples), this song is absolutely a giant ball of emotion.

I remember my heart sinking the second the choir of deceased players joined in. I had gotten insanely far in the credits solo before being overwhelmed and dying so it really felt like an army of allies was saving me. The original feels like a desperate plea for salvation wheras the FFXIV version feel like the whole crew is ready to kick some ass and the boss isn't ready for who and what it is about to go toe-to-toe with.

The way I see the 8-bit sounds at the start is, it's a transition from the sound of a game to the more realistic sounds - which is to say that the messages and ideas represented in the game should be taken to reflect real life. It's a way to bridge the themes of the game from their character to the player, especially considering this song plays during what is essentially a fourth wall break.

what i could gather from hearing this song for so many years is that each language represents a part of the world the 8 bit for the digital, the internet the 3 most famous languages in every continent to represent people in society one indigineous language close to extintion to represent the primitive people that are still out there and the chaos language to represent the characters of the game All of this to say that we are all connected, and we are all carrying the weight of the world, but that doesn't mean we need to carry it alone. None of us are alone in this world. And it's so well made like the other versions tell the opposite, that we are alone, that this world is broken, that it has no hope... But if you keep playing, sacrifice your save(giving help to others) this version plays, and in the version where there are more people participating, more people to help you sing, when you are not alone anymore, it turns into something to keep you moving foward. The nier team is genius, from game director to song writers, they are amazing.

One of my favorite aspects of FF14 music is how they incorporate chorus. Many times it’s musically the voice of the players or the groups of people suffering from actions or during the actions of a fight. So the chorus during the copied factory feels very aggressive and even triumphant in places like it’s everyone working together to take down a common foe. For more on my thesis of ff14 chorus as suffering see the heavensward trailer. To their trespass We are Witness Here to pass this Final sentence It’s the people of Ishgard crying out against the dragons. The Dragons have their own chorus vocalizations in another language responding to the ishgardians. In a realm reborn trailer the chorus voices are those fighting under the moon of Dalamud. Stormblood it’s the people suffering in Ala Mihgo and Doma. All of the themes come back in the Endwalker trailer and you can pick out all the themes and voices including a few new ones like Venat at Sharlayan which hints at a part of the MSQ. All this to say. I love FF14’s music and I’m glad someone else is examining it.

For me, the 8 bits part of the end of yorha is ties to the end credit of the ending e which is where this song played spoiler ahead It start from 8 bits as it is just a non sentient support pod. Then as the pod explaining it sense a collective consciousness had formed between it and othe pods the 8 bits start turning into vocal solo. In the end as the support from other players arrived the solo turns into a choir.
