I think this is one of PTX's hidden jewels. Love this song and the cover.

I have NEVER seen someone who actually knows the original well enough to know the words react to this song before! That was fantastic! Cosmo commented on PTX’s video of this and thanked them for covering it!

This is my favorite PTX video!! I am astounded that it isn't seen much. I have recommended this to almost every REACTOR that I follow yet not many have responded. Thanks for your joy.

They did it in concert and the set was great. It was a video of a mushroom and flower-filled wonderland type garden and they walked in place while the background scrolled, then giant video versions of them appeared on the screen doing the same. It was similar in one way to Cosmo’s video art, in that it was a continuous scroll of imagery. Nothing beats the whimsical video art, but it was really fun! I like when Pentatonix adds whimsy into their arrangements. I’d say the best example is “My Favorite Things” cover that had a sort of Mad Hatter tea party vibe that they played with very well in the visuals of the official video. Of course their “Making Christmas” video was pretty quirky, too, but in obvious homage to Tim Burton’s style. It’s a short but great arrangement that makes it one of the little jewels in their body of work. Since you enjoy the vibe of sitting around jamming, I suggest another of their little jewels, their cover of “Gold” by Kiiara. It’s Avi era, so a bit older, and sung live. I enjoyed your commentary, and your appreciation of Cosmo Sheldrake makes me happy.

Great suggestions! All of those pieces are wonderful in the way that PTX chose to approach them.

One of my favorites - they look like they really enjoy singing it -

One of my favorite. I love when they surprise us with a song that doesn’t seem that adaptable for a vocal version (Valentine, ah-ha, Making Christmas...). I find them super creative and always connected with the song, musically and mood wise as well. So talented. Thank you. 🤗

This is also one of my favourites. Apart from the performance, I just love the whimsy of the lyrics.

It astounds me that people think this is a "happy" song. Don't they hear the darkness of the lyrics? This is an amazing cover, and too often overlooked. WHen it first came out, I used to include the link to Sheldrake's original in the comment section of every reaction video. I don't have it handy right now, but I was so glad to hear everything you said about his music!

So fun to see someone who knows the original. I always enjoy your analysis. One of my favorite PTX when I need a pick up; Cosmos’ when I’m more contemplative. Thanks!

My sister and I decided that Cosmo Sheldrake's version is elves in the forest and PTX's version is the Mad Hatter's tea party.

On the PTX official video the first comment is by Cosmo himself thanking them for covering his work. Cosmo is a very generous and giving performer and human from what I have seen. I like both versions depending on my mood would determine my fav of the day. Thanks for reacting to this sometimes overlooked PTX cover. PTX always is respectful to the original song while making it their own with twists Their catalog is huge and they are all unique. And their harmonies and voices are awesome I thought Matt in this was excellent. He really fits in with the group . You might like to see the “Recording of Evergreen”?which is about 15 minutes showing BTS of their Evergreen album. Seriously though, simply scrolling through their offerings and picking one is a great way to pick one

Their version of "A few of my favorite things" is also a bit skewed. A little fey and dark. You might enjoy it.

I can’t believe you reviewed this! I’m so happy! This and Dreams are among my favorites of their covers but they never get reactions. I totally agree. The fae aspect minus the danger. There’s mystery but there’s no sense of fearful things as conveyed in the original. It’s on my running mix. The original is what I listen to when I want to watch Pan’s Labyrinth or read LotR but don’t have the time.

This is such a great song!! I always felt it was very Into The Woods, so your comparison to the Schubert song felt very true for me. You've got a new sub!! I'm glad I found your page. That fairy-tale type story in song form is very cool, especially when it goes dark. I highly recommend the album The Hazards of Love by The Decemberists, with one tale across the entire album. The villain has The Rake’s Song, which is one of the darkest stories I’ve ever heard in a song.
