This was the first Pentatonix song I heard. I was hooked at Avi’s first bass drop.

You're the only commentator who gets that the magic is the arrangement as much as the voices.

Can't say I've ever seen anyone "headbanging," to this cover..lol. We have to get you on some Tool. So, whilst Dimash is considered the "best in the world," by many, the tone of Grassi's voice is so inherently special and unique and I've never heard another like it with such a rare quality, that I prefer his voice to Dimash's. This is not an objective comparison on technical prowess, but a subjective one on tone quality. Love them both!!

Actually for this recording, it is Avi doing the bass line whiles singing. They looped him for consistency. Now the live performances are of course Scott and he does a marvelous job.
@cocohol35138 ай бұрын
Yes! I always see so many people comment that it's Scott without saying only in live situations.
@goodeveningstories8 ай бұрын
I must have been deceived from the audio! D= It really sounded like Scott's timbre during Avi's leading verse. Thank you for the correction =)
@reginairvine39198 ай бұрын
@@cocohol3513 the only reason I know is because when this came out so many were confused so they actually addressed it in an interview before the live version came out

@@goodeveningstories👉👉I TRULLY believe it is Scott!! The tamber is different!! Avi's bass is SO DIFFERENT than Scott's and YOU ARE CORRECT it is Scott singing bass when Avi leads. REMEMBER Scott's bass and how it sounds when you PLEASE REACT to the "LIVE" version from their Christmas Special!! SAME as in the video 2 distinct bass vocals PLUS you ACTUALLY SEE Scott doing the bass as Avi leads!
@BethVargas-uw6qq8 ай бұрын
@@Bonofox1 I tend to agree. Aside from the live Christmas performance, I think they have distinctly different bassing styles

This was an very musical orgasmic response. LOVE it !! Love your energy and how deeply you get into their music. This song is very much a roller coaster ride song. They start out easy and build you up , then drop you, then build ... and drop you, then take you so high up that you can't breath.... and WHAM, drop you again. And when you get done listening you are just so spent you can't move. Your brain doesn't know how to process it.. PTX just has an EPIC way of provoking such emotion in you. Their songs are so heart felt and energy building and there are very few groups or band that can do it to the same level as they can. PTX is just........... other worldly !

Well said. Pentatonix' mixture of perfect voices with perfect arrangements equals soul-altering experiences.

I enjoy the musical knowledge and detail that you bring to your reactions! Looks like the PTX ones that you've done so far have been covers, which they are wonderful at doing. But they also have a lot of original music. Run To You is a great 5-part harmony original. "Sing" is just lots of fun. More recent originals include the entire "Lucky Ones" album. Not a bad song on there. The other thing they are known for are medleys and mash-ups. One of the best relatively recent mash-up is New Rules/Are You That Somebody. Earliest medley is "Evolution of Music", but there are so many more, all with masterful transitions. Hope to see more PTX from you!

I like that too. But sometimes I hoped they'd stop and say something at those incredible moments so either way is fine by me. I prefer 1) the reviewer enjoys the process and 2) I pick up aspects that I didn't miss because of my lack of musical (everything). I was fed here to my FULLEST and just right!

So I saw you starting to emote big when Mitch (countertenor) started his solo, which is typical when someone listens to this song blind, we call it being "Mitch slapped" ... and then you exclaimed "The chords! The chords!" OMG, I'm still chuckling. Leaving a little pocket for Mitch's solo is something they first explored in their 2011 Sing Off performances - see "Dog Days Are Over." BTW, their long-time collaborator for arrangements is Ben Bram - ever since those first days as a group in 2011.

Great Reaction and Analysis! I have only recently discovered your channel and have thoroughly enjoyed watching the videos. I am 68 and singing has always been such a big part of who I am, although I have had no formal training I have sung in choirs most of my life. What I love most about your reaction videos is how, when you first listen to the song, you are SO immersed in the music and how obvious it is to see how much the music touches your soul. When that happens, a person can't help but move to the music! It is so genuine, and powerful! I look forward to seeing many more of your reaction videos!

I am a Pentatonix fan and this performance is my favorite for showcasing the individual talents and also enjoy being "Mitchslapped." I realize this reactor is an opera singer and can imagine the beauty of his voice just from his speaking. This is amy favorite reaction of PTX Halleluyah because his reaction to the sounds is how I react inside. Someone pleade reply with his name so I can find his singing voice.

Loved your reaction and I subscribed The live version Hollywood Bowl 2022 is stunningly magical. They can almost mix themselves when they have full verse solos like Hallelujah has. In one interview Scott says he does alter slightly “ the minor fall, the major lift” or something else slightly at the end of his verse to make it different from the studio version so the audience Knows it is live. I have heard this many times live One reason their videos are so close to their faces during solos is to give people visual clues that might now know this group After a few songs people can differentiate their voices Usually Kevin does the percussion and beatboxing but they can all do bells and wind whispers/ whistles to add to the performance Their arrangements make it so they can perform it live. I have heard like other have said, on this official video Avi does the bass when he is singing his solo but on the lives Scott sings it Now they have Matt so every live is different from the studio version They also get along and want why is best for the song with very little ego that I have ever seen. Their arrangements are creative and their voices are stunning ❤❤❤❤❤

This, I hope, is the most ridiculous comment I have ever made. When I saw that an (ex)opera singer was reacting, I had this vision of a portly person in a green jacket and yellow waistcoat pushing through the stage curtains. Sticking from the waistcoat at navel level was a small cigar holder with a hamlet cigar burning. The person, you I guess, said "This is where we breath from!" Seen several of your reactions since and enjoyed them, just hoped you'ld like a weird comment.

You don't mention how you feel about the original--Leonard Cohen's version. What do you thing of that? and what about k. d. lang's version? I love that one.
@goodeveningstories7 ай бұрын
I think the original is beautifully poignant and an excellent, well-rounded piece of music. Well-rounded not just in its musical structure but it also serving as a springboard for all adaptations and covers of it. I've personally only heard a few variations outside the original, which unfortunately doesn't include k. d. lang's version (but I can add it to the list =) ) but I enjoy listening to Jeff Buckley's version. A stunningly emotionally and musically raw variation that appeals directly to my core. I hope I answered your question well~
