One of the most interesting things I learned from this song is that tailors make blue jeans. I get mine at Kohl's or off Amazon! LOL! 😄💙

I do not think there is anyone alive today who has heard the 'original' version. The song can be reliably traced back to the 1890's with the first known recording in 1933 by Clarence Ashley. All in all, great song. This is one of my faves by Geoff. Terrific reaction/analysis. Thank you.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I was thinking something similar, though I have to give a point because it's obvious Geoff took the Animals version as the base to build on.

The Animals weren't the original singers of this, just the most well known. It's a very very old song.

I would suggest watching DavidKReacts' analysis of this, which was done with a special guest for one amazing deep dive into this.

Unbelievable, how many details you are able to recognize and show me in a Geoff song, I know now for years and listened to it regularly! This in addition how you can express and show us your feelings is a wonderful combination. That's why I absolutely appreciate every single reaction from you to a Voiceplay or Geoff arrangement so much. Greetings from Germany

So much technique is revealed via these discussions. I can appreciate the beauty of Geoff's cover even more after having these bits pointed out. Once again, I am thankful for your discussions.

I'm totally with @jackyfriedman1963, when you watch Geoff's hands closely, you get a split second to prepare for those "pit of hell"-notes 😂🙈 Was never a fan of this song when the Animals did it, but love Geoff's version ❤ Same with "Ain't no sunshine" 😉👍🏻 Love it so much when he flexes up and down the octaves and his voice always touches my heart, he never does sth. without putting many emotions in it 🫶🏻

This is one of my gazillion favorites of Geoff's. When I recommend it, I always do it with a warning that he is showing off. He starts off with that melancholy sound and speed that tugs on your heartstrings. Then the guitar comes in and we are off to the races. The artistic choice he makes NOT to enunciate each word clearly is beautiful but annoys some reactors. He hits the A4 that is the high note in the original, but he does not showcase it. His use of props is interesting. The Zippo lighter, the trunk lid falling, the candle lighting (at not to do what I've done), and the gramophone. You see the gramophone emblem at the end of his pieces now, but he put the physical one in several of his covers. That was about the time he turned 40 or 41 and billed himself as old and boring. I think his best solo arrangement is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. You don't have to wait for Christmas, ya know.

Watch Geoff's hands. When he's going to sing super low he usually faces his hand up instead of down. His hand moves to the range of what he is singing. His vocal coach taught him that when he was a teen. He'll be 44 in August. The only time he doesn't is what he uses both hands for something during a video. Like in "Monster Mash". He was Dr Frankenstein and 3 of his clones were 3 monsters (Dracula, werewolf and Frankenstein's monster). His wife Kathy did a cameo at the end. The dance his monsters did was a big hit. Very catchy and fun.

Such a driving version of this one. Did you notice the gramaphone? He added it to his endings and I love seeing it in some of his props in the videos. Consider Ain't No Sunshine, another really good one is Man of Constant Sorrow.

This has never been one of my top songs. I don't dislike it, it just isn't a favorite...or wasn't, until I heard Geoff's version!💙

Let's see. OK, the Jeffettes are Jeff, Goff, and Jeoff. Wander over to Ghost Riders and you get to meet the fourth Jeffette Daryl He's the one wearing the leather duster. He's my favorite. See you Thursday. I've got a question for you that's gonna blow your mind!

If you do plan animation reactions, I'd encourage you to react to The Legend of Vox Machina (on Prime Video). It is based on Critical Role's first Dungeons and Dragons live play campaign. Though not strictly Anime, it is highly informed by it as the main voice cast (all professional voice actors) has a long history of work in anime dubs. Their 3rd season premieres in October.

I see where this is Jeff showing off his tremendous skill and voice but I dont think he does the song justice. He’s singing his technicalities not connecting with the song itself and that’s an injustice of a deep haunting song of the human condition. He’s great but not this arrangement.

This isn’t my fave Geoff arrangement/track. Too jazzed up for me. I much prefer his adaptation of Ain’t No Sunshine. Still great R&A though 😊
