in MGR the developers did not have time to develop the antagonistic characters, so instead they made the songs from the game be from the bosses perspective, to try to make us understand them better, and holy shit it worked, it also give us gems such as " it have to be this way" , "red sun" and my personal favorite " the only thing i know for real"

I'd say it represents both raiden and Armstrong opinions. Since both of them came to respect each other as oponents and what they stood for. 2 rivals both with ideals and dreams fighting to the death to enact that dream. There is no convincing one another because their ideals clash but they have that mutual understanding of each other too and they both know only one of them can leave

It kinda is. It's 2 men with ideals that they both would die for that clash against each other but in principle are very similar. They can't both leave because there is only room for of their ideals and so they must fight to the death but tho they are enemies they both have respect and an understanding for each other. Similar to how 2 soldiers from different countries can meet in battle but still look at each other and understand each others situation and possibly they could have been friends if it wasn't for the war but they both understand one of them has to take the others life

Excerpt from an interview of the music composer for this game (Jamie Christopherson): "I've written songs for projects before, but I've never been commissioned to write a full album's worth (13 tracks) for a game. The sheer amount of work and collaboration that went into those songs was something completely different than I've experienced before in producing a soundtrack."

For those curious, a simple summary for Raiden and his growth in Rising is more about him coming to terms with his violent past and embracing it rather than rejecting it for nigh intangible and idealistic view of justice. It's by the end of the game that he's faced with an opponent that he could not deny was out to do similar things as he was trying to do in order to better the world, albeit in a more destructive way. The final boss theme is meant to reflect the antagonist's intents and goals through the lyrics but also act as a mirror to Raiden's who had gotten to a point where he understood that there was a lot more to fighting for justice than simply playing by the rules and being "nice". I definitely dumbed it down a lot and probably got a couple things wrong but Metal Gear Rising, regardless of how wild and insane it can be, offers up a unique view on the meaning of actual justice as well as a good character resolution for Raiden. It's a hell of an experience and I'd recommend trying it even if you're not a Metal Gear fan. It's one of those games that you definitely have to experience at least one which despite how weird that is when people say the same about something like Shadow of the Colossus, I completely mean it

You pretty much nailed it, this song is the final reconciliation Raiden has with questioning himself and his mission. The entire game he comes to think “am I just as bad as the people I’m killing? Do the ends really justify the means? Does it matter if I do good if the whole world will see this conflict differently and I’ll be labeled a terrorist?” This song is him finally coming to terms with the fact that……”yknow what? None of that matters, I can’t doubt myself, and I KNOW I’m doing the right thing even if it lies across a river of blood. And even though the villain I’m facing could argue the exact same things, we aren’t the same even though we are in many ways. I HAVE to do this.”

The best part about the music in this game is how it's dynamically mixed. Initially all the boss music starts out just instrumental, with the more upbeat sections mixed in during certain actions. And then during the parts where you've got an opening to either massively damage or finish off the boss, the lyrics kick in and makes it into this flashy, blood-pumping spectacle.

You absolutely NAILED IT on the explanation on the song and how it connects back to Raiden. The amazing thing about these songs in Revengence, they play double duty. Showing who Raiden is and what he has to face and deal with at the point in the story he’s at when he fights the boss who’s theme he’s fighting. And at the same time, the song is also about the story of the Boss as well and what inner conflicts they have or what they’re going through at the same time. I HIGHLY recommend going through the rest of the game and really looking at the story and what’s being told and who you are fighting and tie it back to their themes that play as you go through. I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on more of the songs from the game, Especially Bladewolf and Sam’s themes. Anyway amazing analysis! Man I’m glad I found ya!

Technically, it's Armstrong's song. The boss lyrics to Revengeance are written in the boss' perspective, to hint further at characterization. Showing wolf wanting nothing more than to break away from the group that has him enslaved. Mistral fighting only because that PMC is the only place she found to belong. Or Sam's emotional turmoil and feeling that he's lost his way. By the same token, the lyrics are to show that Armstrong is lamenting how things turn out, as he feels that he truly found a kindred spirit in Raiden, and feels that under different circumstances they could have been comrades or even friends. So yeah, Armstrong's perspective, other than that good analysis.
@thatwarframeguy3855

It’s sung from Raidens perspective. The lyric “I’ve carved my own path, you followed your wrath,” lines up directly with Armstrong saying “you follow your own path, do as you see fit” to him before he dies.
@TheMexicanDude0882
@TheMexicanDude0882 Жыл бұрын
@@thatwarframeguy3855 That's one interpretation, but frankly I do not believe it to be a very good one. For one, it would make it the ONE song that is not sung from the perspective of the Antagonist. Making it the only song in the entire game not used to further characterize the antagonist, their wants, needs, and reasons for fighting. And seeing as to it's the final and arguably most important fight, it seems a little out there that it would be the ONLY one that doesn't give the reasoning of the antagonist for fighting. As to the specific lines you mentioned. Those are vague enough (and the characters are similar enough) that they apply to both of them. Armstrong sees his using War as a Business to end War as a Business as carving his own path forward. Raiden following his wrath carved a path through Armstrong's men to stop him. Not to mention, the two of them ARE actually distorted mirrors of one another. As unimportant as the story was, Raiden DID abandon his job and become an outlaw to do what he felt was right. Just like Armstrong is using a system he despises to bring together the power to tear it down. Ultimately. Two lyrics in the song that can very easily be argued to apply to both characters does not, in my opinion, form a compelling enough argument when taking other factors into consideration to call this the ONE song, sung from Raiden's perspective. tldr: No, I don't think it is.
@thatwarframeguy3855
@thatwarframeguy3855 Жыл бұрын
@@TheMexicanDude0882 When Sam drops his sword in the boss fight, the lyrics to his theme end. This mirrors the lyrics stopping when raiden has Sam’s sword knocked out of his hand- suggesting a direct connection to it. And technically, Collective consciousness is HIS theme because that’s what he wants you to believe at the time. It’s how he WANTS to be seen, vs Raiden’s theme being openly vague and accepting that the two are similar in many ways. I’m not tryna disrespect your opinion. There’s just too many references/callbacks made, suggesting it’s RAIDEN’s perspective of Armstrong.
@SkigBiggler
@SkigBiggler 4 ай бұрын
@@thatwarframeguy3855My understanding is that a lot of Raidens actions were out of anger at injustice, Armstrong’s were calculated. Raiden is typically characterised as being fairly emotional and making decisions in the moment rather than after careful deliberation, whereas Armstrong reads more as a careful planner, even if his ultimate belief is might makes right. The point of the song (at least partially) is that while their goals may be different, their methods for achieving it are very similar, might makes right, kill those who don’t fit your view of the world. Assuming the song is from Armstrongs POV, which I think it is, it implies a sort of melancholic fatalism, that it’d be nice if things worked differently, but Armstrong is convinced that ultimately, strength determine “right and wrong”. Edit: I also think that the ambiguity of the song might also be intentional. The fact it can be feasibly considered a theme for either Armstrong or Raiden sort of reinforces the idea of them being the same

It's very interesting that you came to this conclusion about this song without any context, considering that this is actually the final BOSSES theme song. Not technically Raiden's theme. So the point of view is deliberately vague and can be taken from either Raiden's or the antagonist's point of view. As always, a good read on a character through the music and lyric. Also yes. Every. Single. Boss theme. Does this and does it expertly. The enemy's story is told almost exclusively by their theme song.

There are two ways to enjoy the songs in MGR. By just listening to the song on its own. And then being immersed in it while playing the game. They actually did something pretty neat, and the music changes its flow based on your progression in the boss fight. Think of it as like getting phase 2 music in a soulsborne, but it can go through multiple phases based on what's going on. With some of the bosses, it's a lot more noticable or even made to be a big part of the fight that the audio is adjusted more throughout the fight. Lyrics will start to be present during the climax of the fight or when certain events are happening. Pretty neat stuff.

It mixes middle-eastern inspired instrumentation and vocals alongside more conventional, modern techno music, so it might be fun for you to experience how the two blend! Edit: Not to be presumptuous, but if you do end up giving it a listen, I'd recommend the ~5 minute version that's up on KZbin, since it makes a smooth transition between Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 of the theme for the best listening experience.

The music in Metal Gear Rising; Revengence is very smart, and the fact it has an early 2000s numetal sound only adds to it. Considering they lyrics help fill in a lot of the context between characters, it's beautiful to see the influence in each song, based on the person it's about (such as The Only Thing I Know Is Real having a mix of American numetal with Japanese instruments in the background, which allude to Sam's mix of eastern and western culture) I suggest listening to the edits that KZbinr, Tyrus Sparda have created, as it adds a lot more cinematics to each song (especially this song!) And make the songs much more enjoyable (notable ones being The Only Thing I Know Is Real, and I'm My Own Master Now) This was nice! Definitely got my sub!

Marco, the Metal Gear Revenge soundtrack is very poetic and philosophical. The lyrics are gives more personality to its bosses and increases the narrative. The Metal Gear series always had good music and they always makes you think about the message the story delivers. My favorite music from MGR is The Hot Wind Blowing. Also, can I ask you to listen Octopath Traveler's soundtrack? Octopath Traveler has a very good soundtrack. Every character has a motif and the motifs can connect with the bosses themes perfectly.

MGR is such a deep and incredibly over the top game at the same time and that's what people love about it, it's easy to miss the points the game makes and just be overwhelmed by the silliness (good silliness) but the game as any other metal gear has a lot to give concept wise, the infamous meme speech is probably one of my favorite speech in video game, sadly people just...well meme it.

I absolutely adore how this is Raidens perspective, and how the lyrics and the music contrast. The music is extremely heroic , but the subtext is extremely ominous, Raiden is inheriting Armstrong's ideological delusions. I believe this highlights the self-righteousness Raiden is feeling
@1sdani
@1sdani 2 жыл бұрын
IMO, Raiden had Armstrong's ideology from the start of the game, but now Raiden is growing beyond them. Yes, he integrated part of Armstrong's worldview into his own, but he did that with the worldview of almost every enemy, one way or another. Monsoon's use of violence to ignore his trauma, Sam's view of "ideals" as excuses to ignore the atrocities you commit, and Armstrong's belief that people should live passionate lives. However, Raiden's final ideology improves on each, conceding that he'll never escape his trauma, but he can fight to prevent others from enduring the same, that there is no such thing as a war that makes the world better, but he can at least kill those who will make the world worse, and that people should live for what they believe in, but that making well-informed sacrifices for the sake of others is no less noble. To say Raiden is the same as Armstrong is, to me, to say Raiden has not grown since the game began.

Since you are going more into a metally direction with this, I would like you to listen to something from Devil May Cry 5. My personal favourite is "Devil Trigger" just by it's sound, though there is no denying that "Bury the light" is way more beloved and musically "superior". I don't want to spoil anything, but I think as a musician listening to both it the order I mentioned them would be cool. Just be warned, especially bury the light goes rather hard, don't know how you feel about that ;) Edit: Both were made by Casey Edwards, who has musical ties to Mick Gordon, who you might very well encounter on this channel if you don't know him already. And there should be full versions with lyrics on screen on KZbin.
