Born in Norway, Angelina Jordan is a remarkable gift that apparently God wanted many of us to share and welcome into our hearts. She is truly a treasure that continues to grow and improve and will one day in the near future become the worlds greatest singer, song writer, entertainer. It's so typical of fans to exaggerate the abilities of the object of their fandom. Fortunately, in the case of Angelina Jordan, it's impossible to adequately describe her without seeming to exaggerate. The fact that the fans in this thread are actually conceding that her immense talents had to wait until after her birth to be noticed is a case in point. We only concede this in order to avoid scaring away potential fans who have not had much experience of her. Truly, Mark S is making a very conservative statement here, for this very reason. 😁😁

So I can't even imagine what it's like for people who are trained experts in this kind of thing. Norwegian born Angelina began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Thank you for discovering Angelina. She is well worth every microsecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on KZbin, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with TOTAL CONVICTION despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she con convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Yes, Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand (g) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Great first reaction! Oh boy, you are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy with an old soul from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Her early influences are Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Etta James to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. She entered and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, " Wow, what a rendition!" Not only that, but she received the copyrights for her version of this song from Queen, which makes it hers now. She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity. Now 16 years old, living in Los Angeles, and is signed with Republic Records, whose clients include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Drake to name a few. Her family and Republic Records have agreed not to heavily promote her just yet so she can live as normal of a life as possible and finish her schooling. The reason is very special. When she was 6 years old, she was traveling with her family in Iran where she met a shoeless homeless girl in the streets that was about her age. She made money by weighing people. After speaking with her for a few minutes, Angelina noticed the scars on the girl's feet and asked the girl what her dream is. The girl said she wanted to be a doctor but she couldn't because she had to make money for her family. Angelina did what came natural to her, she gave the little girl her shoes and told her to not give up on her dreams. Welcome to “The World Of Angelina Jordan Astar” (full name). “The Barefoot Princess With The Velvet Voice And A Mona Lisa Smile”. Born Jan 10, 2006. From her audition on Norway’s Got Talent (2014 - age 7 - Gloomy Sunday "Billy Holiday") through the final on America’s Got Talent The Champions (2020 - age 13 - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road "Sir Elton John") and the 130+ videos in between you will not be disappointed. This includes three originals song: “What Is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” Since then she has done many new covers and now her new singles "Million Miles" and “7th Heaven”, along with her movie soundtrack "Mercy" from the motion picture “The Hating Game”. As well as her brilliant version of Elvis’s “Suspicious Mind”. My personal favorite is her cover of Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die". Although “Mercy” is really growing on me. Let’s analyze the video: 1st you see how small and cute she is. 2nd you see she is barefoot (story below) 3rd You see her making her “Wish List” of suggested changes to the song. 4th the band leader taking note of the changes. 5th Angelina is holding a candle with “Screemin’ Jay Hawkin’s (original artist 1956) picture on it. 6th the old soul in her voice. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

Angelina Jordan is 9 years old in this video. This is after she auditioned for and won Norway's Got Talent at age 7/8 with jazz. Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday" was her audition piece. Her first three languages are Norwegian, English, and Farsi, with the biggest emphasis on Norwegian and English. Along with that, exposure to and some speaking in Japanese, Swedish, German, and other languages close to Norway. In some ways, music is just another language. One breath for that last phrase and long powerful word perfectly enunciated. I'm ten hours after this reaction, so I'm sure the other fans (or angels) have filled you in on a ton. I have subscribed because I value your instructive vocabulary. In that one place a musician stopped the video and said, "Did I just hear her growl and slip into a whistle tone?" He replayed it. "Yes. ellen It wasn't a whistle note. It was an inhalation of breath which produced a squeal. The whistle register starts at D6. Angelina's vocal range doesn't go beyond the 5th octave.

What you will soon realize is that Angelina today at 16 Angelina is already the best Jazz singer on the Planet! Soon to be one of the Best Vocalists of All Time. ♥👣👸🏻 Angelina won Norway's Got Talent when she was 8 yrs old after starting the competition at 7 yrs old. The youngest winner of any Got Talent show on the planet. She had to wait two years because you had to be 7 yrs old to enter. Thank you for this very insightful and nuanced reaction to this child prodigy. I know that a lot of Angelina's fans will enlighten you on who and what this talented young singer is in the realm of music. I just wanted to add that someone in the replies said that Angelina did not have much training, but that is not true. Angelina started out with an absolutely natural gift for singing, it absolutely was in her DNA from birth, but because of her innate love for the art form she has pushed herself even as a young child to improve and to learn more, and more about her art. Between the ages of six and 10 her basic improvement in her vocal ability had jumped in leaps and bounds. By the time she was 10 she had improved to the point of being a formidable singing artist. She innately understands how to express a song, and emote a song through a absolute sensibility to empathize with the expression of the lyrics. But as to her training she is also a consummate student of the art, and as a young child attended a school of music in her hometown of Oslo. Not only is she a devout student of the vocal arts, but also of the classic jazz singers, and the jazz art form. She is also a devout student in the art of singing, and even today she is still learning at the age of 16. What I would suggest is that you listen to her singing summertime at the age of eight during the Norway's got talent show, which she won, then the next song should be feeling good at the age of 10. Mind you, this is a deep rabbit hole which you are about to dive in because her work ethic is impeccable, and her body of work is extensive. She is self-motivated and not pushed by her parents, as a matter of fact, they had to hold her back so that she could enjoy a real childhood. Fabulous analysis. I am not educated in music in any way but have to believe Angelina has a very keen ear, allowing her to pick up on vocal techniques. She also understands emotion at a high level. *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.

As I see it, there are three eras (so far) in Angelina's musical history. The first one starts with Norway's Got Talent which introduced her to the wider (Norwegian) public. The performance you reacted to is in this period. During this time, Angelina performed live in many venues within Norway and made many YT covers. The live performances were either in summer festivals, charity performances, television shows and a few live concerts. She also showed up in Norwegian talk shows and was interviewed on camera a few times. Eventually, her family moved to California where she still attends school. Besides what you have seen, from this era I would recommend reacting to "Summertime" (sung as the final performance in NGT) and "A million years ago" (a YT video with just acoustic guitar accompaniment shot in California). The second era starts with her appearance in America's Got Talent (Champions) where the American public was introduced to her with a stunningly professional and original arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody. That performance exploded her popularity beyond Norway. The third era starts when she signed a record contract with Republic records. After this, he YT videos became more professionally produced but less frequent. Her cover of "Easy on me" from this era is especially well done. Her original "A million miles away" was written and performed before the record deal but, IMHO, the better performance was her studio in-person performance of it. Recent news is that Angelina is just finishing up a full-on album (her first) which should be released within the year. Angelina just turned 17 in January 2023 and is continuing her high school education. I suspect when she graduates another era will start as her family has wisely kept her singing gigs secondary to her education.

Angelina grew up in Norway, but I think she learned English as well as Norwegian so she is fluent in both languages A video from her preschool days shows her teahcers and principal talked only English to the whole sshool. She like listening to blues and jazz with her grandmother from when she was a baby, and began singing at 1.5 years old. Other videos from her younger years I recommend are: I'm a fool to want you, which she does accapella at age 7 for Norway's Got Talent, Summertime at Norwary's Got Talent,, then Feelin' Good at age 10 (do the one insideon stage with light rght back of her head. Later videos that arre a must are Bohemian Rhapsody at America's Got Talent: The Champions at age 13. Also good to check out her originals: What is Life with a guy playing piano and another on guitar (this one is an original). Also Millions Miles (do the live B &W version but the video with her grandmothers animated art is cool too) which she wrote on the death of her grandfather. Her most recent is Suspicious Minds by Elivs Presley, which will totally blow you away---it is so different from the original as most of her covers are! By the way she sings barefoot to honor a girls she met on the street somehere in Asia She was weighing popele tofor money. They struck up a friendship She had no shoes, so Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to her. She vowed to never wear shoes peforming until every child in the world has shoes. She even wrote a book about it which her grandmother illustrated.

Hi Jess. Thanks for the reaction. It's always good hear someone who knows what they're talking about react to Angelina. As other have said, Angelina was nine years old when this was recorded. That makes it about a year after she won Norway's Got Talent! Her fans believe she is a true prodigy and I tend to agree. She is gifted beyond belief. However, as gifted as she is, she doesn't rely on just her god given talent, she has a tremendous work ethic. She attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training and piano lessons. In addition to singing and playing the piano, she plays violin, guitar and flute, and also paints. She also has a HUGE catalog on KZbin. She is Norway's youngest published author having written a book about an experience she had when she was 6 years old that has caused her to do all her public performances barefoot. In short, she is genius wrapped in a precocious little package at this age.

Welcome to the most wonderful and enjoyable "rabbit hole" on You Tube: Angelina Jordan Astar!! She calls her fans her "Angels", and I am certainly one of them. She is a child phenom, having started singing at 18 months old (that's not a typo!). You will get tons of biographical material from others, so I will simply state that in my 64 years, I've listened to so many of the greats, and I still love and enjoy them all; Angelina is on another level. She is, imho, the most versatile singer I've ever heard, able to adapt her range and her mastery of so many different vocal techniques to the individual song that she's singing. There really isn't any genre of popular music she can't sing. I very much appreciate your knowledge and expertise when it comes to the voice, and how to utilize it! Many others have also noted that she sings in a very healthy manner, very relaxed and allowing the sound to naturally form. Even when "belting", she's in control, and doesn't press or force her voice, but simply lets it out. I immediately subscribed, and I really look forward to your journey with the incomparable "barefoot princess" Angelina Jordan! All the best to you and yours, and I will see you soon, I'm sure!
