Jinjer are one of the rare bands that actually sound better live than on their albums! Awesome reaction!

Another great reaction. As a singer you would really, really, really enjoy "Judgement and Punishment" (One take vocal performance). You will get to see Tatiana's techniques up close and be amazed at the different genres Jinjer incorporates into their music.

Elizabeth Zharoff from The Charismatic Voice is an opera singer. She started to investigate harsh vocal techniques few years ago after she heard Tatiana's growling in Pisces and Judgment&Punishment. Elizabeth dove deep into that matter with the help of Will Ramos (another famous harsh vocalist from Lorna Shore). I guess she has alot of information now how to learn harsh vocal especially if you are an opera singer. I remember at least another one singer (not opera, rock singer) from youtube, who reacted to Jinjer and then tend to learn harsh vocal techniques because she was impressed by Tatiana's skills. Tatiana herself literally said (in interview with Elizabeth and some other interviews) that she isn't able to teach anyone how to growl like her because she can't explain it properly. And she understands the responsibility because wrong learning approach could damage the voice. Or at least it wouldn't be usefull, just a waisting of time.

I got to see Jinjer live about a year ago, with 3 opening acts. The entire band is so skilled, and Tatianna is even more captivating in person. They are Ukrainian, and their first attempted US tour was cancelled by the start of the war, so things got pushed back about 7 months or so. They were selling special band t-shirts in Ukrainian colors, with all the proceeds going to support a bomb shelter in Kyev, and I bought one of those and wore it to the concert. I think they're still helping out with food and medicine.

They are from Eastern Ukraine. In fact as of just this week the front line in the war there has come within a few kilometers of Tatiana's home town Horlivka for the first time since 2014. She lives in LA with her husband now and the rest of the band members live outside of Ukraine in Europe. They got special permission to tour as cultural ambassadors of their country along with a few other Ukrainian artists. I wouldn't be surprised if that stage at Wacken has more square footage than the first floor of my house and yet she's running all over it and doesn't sound out of breath except for the beginning of the video and the end.

Sorry for correction, Ukraine is the unitary state (though it is challenged by orcs), therefore it is the East of Ukraine, not Eastern Ukraine.

The Charismatic Voice, Chris Liepe and Will Ramos have put together great a course on harsh vocals!

I just watched Chris's reaction before this one. He explained how the harsh vocals come from an exaggerated sigh. This is the first time someone has explained it that it makes sense to me lol!

Saw JINJER headline at Hooligans in North Carolina! (8-8-2023) Their set was about an hour and a half long. Savage energy from start (Perennial) to last (Sit, Stay, Rollover)! Can't wait for their new album release next spring!!!

I saw them the night before at the House of Blues in South Carolina. I can’t not be amazed by this band no matter how many times I listen to them. While “Pisces” got me interested, the song that made me a fan was “Bad Water.”

The band is talented as heck, and Tati speaks for herself. My favorite band at the moment. This is the last song of the set, btw, so she's doing this after being on stage for at least an hour. Girls got skills!

I have seen Jinjer live 3 times since 2021, and they are amazing. Tati is absolutely on another level now then even this performance as she adopted a sober lifestyle, and is generally taking really good care of herself. You should go see them live if they come near you.

Another great reaction! I love how into it you are. I can't wait to hear your harsh vocals! I love it when opera singers appreciate the artistry and dedication Tatiana brings to the table. Don't forget--it takes quite a while to get good at it. I want to hear your early attempts! C'mon man! 😜 What's crazy to me is how haphazard harsh vocals seem to be for Tatiana. In the Tea Time interview with The Charismatic Voice, she said that mid-tour she can forget how to do it! It's happened to her more than once. She loses the ability to scream, and she has to relearn how to do it. And it comes back differently every time! In one comment she said it used to be better in a previous incarnation of it! She doesn't warm up, and she recently quit smoking cigarettes. She says she doesn't take care of her voice at all. And she has no idea how she does what she does. Her only training has been on-the-job training. I think determination must be Tatiana's middle name. She is a wonder!

Tatiana's 'scream' is projected from her faults fold cords down there in the speaky region in the throaty area!
@jpdusn83478 ай бұрын
From what I understand of it she uses her “false vocal folds” to make that sound and her jaw, mouth, lips and throat to help shape the sound into words. Hence the dramatic jaw movement. In person it’s not very loud but do it right, practice, amplify it and you get the wonderful sounds of one Tatiana Shmayluk.

Fun tip to help adjust your ears to understanding growling. Listen to it while reading the lyrics. For some reason if your brain knows the words it will process it better and becomes more clear. You have to train your ears just like you have to your voice 😂

Widely renowned as possibly the most versatile harsh vocalist, Will Ramos from Lorna Shore has taught fellow Opera Singer, Elizabeth Zarhoff how to growl. They have done reactions together and he's even had a camera put down his throat to the amazement of ENT doctor who as shocked at what he could do with his true and false Chords. His versatility goes from a beautiful cleanl voice to Tuvan throat singing, growls , goblin noises , pig squeals and basically any animal noise you can think of. Will has put together a course in harsh vocals in collaboration with Chris Liepe.

Love seeing opera singers get into metal vocals. Imo they're both extreme vocals on opposite ends of the spectrum. If you're interested in learning, check out the Will Ramos course with Chris Liepe and Elizabeth Zharof from The Charismatic Voice. I'm a student and love this course!

You have to listen to "Wallflower" by Jinjer. An extremely beautiful buildup. After realizing how involved in music you are and alluding to issues of faith I had to subscribe to your Chanel. I have been a guitarist for 45 years and currently going through a love affair with Metal and even Deathchore. If your feeling really adventurous check out Lorna Shore "To The Hellfire". Symphonic deathchore with heavy vocals in extreme artistic variety. This piece is a little scary

Another great reaction! So while false chord growling is an uncommon skill, Tatiana shows that size and gender don't determine who can and who can't. Most of us can engage the false chords with a chest clear. The growl actually does not create much sound, hence you will see many growlers "eat the mic". Even thought growling is quiet, they are also pitch-less. A good video example of this is "Judgement and Punishment" one take, by Jinjer. You can hear the difference when Tati begins to engage her true vocal folds and her growl turns more into a scream w/pitch. Lastly, there should be 0 tension, or stain in the growl. You should not feel burning or tightness in your throat when you are growling

I have absolutely no vocal training or knowledge, but I've been singing along to metal in the car for a while now and have gotten pretty good at growls and screams without hurting myself. I don't know if they sound good, of course! But in my experience, a lot of it comes from the core. Without training, I get tired after certain sections and have to stop, and sometimes my abs are burning. I don't know exactly how I'm using those muscles, but I try to imagine a connection from there running all the way to the top. But so much of it is unique to your own body. I think a good starting point is to play around with deep, heavy sighs, and feeling that grunt that comes with it if you really put the "UGH" into the sigh. Screams are another thing, I have a much harder time with those. I feel them more in my head than with growls, but I don't fully understand that either. Harsh vocals don't really have pitch, so it's not like I'm using a chest or head voice. I don't think.

Notice she had less then a second for a breath to switch in the last part from a long clean to the ending growl climax and still maintain breath control. You can see how out of breath she is when she is talking to the crowd.
