The original song was sung by Bing Crosby. However, Thurl Ravencroft (Tony the Tiger and the Bass in the Haunted Mansion @ DIsney) did a low version just like Geoff's. Very typical of a late 40's early 50's song. Watch all of them, they're GREAT! (See what I did there?). Geoff and Thurl have a similar sound to them. I could listen to him read the dictionary in the low voice all day long. EDIT: I forgot to mention, Soprano Notes, I love your explanations and your sense of pitch. I am a tone deaf dad that has one son that is a band director and a second that is a drama kid. I miss 80% of all the things that go on in songs, but watching the reactions, I learn to notice the parts I miss. Well done!

I recognized that the heads were all him because I'd seen Sixteen Tons, Take Me Home Country Roads, Bare Necessities, and Saddle Up, among others, before seeing this and to quote Layne Stein, who was in the Saddle Up video (not singing or beat boxing), "Wasn't that you in four different shirts?"

I had been wondering why you weren't commenting on the range, and then I almost spat out my cereal when you finally figured it out! Hilarious! Anyway, your comments and analyses are amazing, I love the breakdowns in music theory and his singing techniques. This was wonderful, thank you. As for recommendations; everyone is suggesting Oogie Boogie (which is amazing, go watch that for sure), but I really love his parts in The Little Mermaid Medley and Queen in 5 min, I think they show his range nicely too (the slides!) and nicely show off the rest of the group too

Agree with a lot of the comments below -- the three basso profundos out there in KZbin land getting a lot of air play are Geoff, Tim Foust from Home Free, and Avi Kaplan formerly of Pentatonix. Both Tim and Avi have partnered up with Peter Hollens for some excellent music that shows off bass range and skill -- Tim with Misty Mountains, and Avi with Black is the Color or my True Love's Hair. All worth a listen!

That last note was a subharmonic F1. Not as low as he can sing by almost an octave. You have some very good music ahead of you both Geoff's solo and with Voiceplay. Also I'm sure people will be pointing you to Home Free with Tim Foust and some of the older Pentatonix with Avi Kaplan. If you really want to hear Geoff's range, check out his cover of Blackbird.

Oogie Boogie Song and Blackbird - both show off his incredible high and low range. And sings an E1 in both. Geoff is amazing. Also check out Tim Foust in the group Home Free. They’re friends and trade bass tips with each other. Tim can be seen singing an E1 in Folsom Prison Blues. They actually collaborated on Voiceplay’s “Just Sing” and had a little bass battle. You should really watch that as they collaborated with a bunch of people from all different groups during COVID (and did it for charity).

I agree with both those recommendations and I would react to Voiceplay's Sh-Boom because that is really great as well

08:05 Ok that note...there is a cave in southern MN. Has a divot in the ceiling at one point that the tour guide years ago told us could make a vibration for several yards into the system if the right note is hit under it. Pretty damn sure *that* note would make the whole cave itself vibrate!

Keep in mind that this is a cover of the original song sung by Thurl Ravenscroft (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmXYgYd4pL-ci8k). Geoff puts his own spin at parts, but he also does a great job at channeling his inner Ravenscroft.

SO excited to know that someone else knows who Thurl Ravenscroft is and that is is a cover from a Disney movie.The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad! CLASSIC DISNEY!

If you want to be extra nitpicky this has the two songs in sync so you can listen with headphones with one version in each ear. Sort of a shovel and some voodo rituals Geoff managed to completely resurrect Thurl Ravenscroft, it's uncanny. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpqcomSmbcuKbtk

I like your reaction to Castellucci a lot - very substantiated analysis!, many thanks! Since you are asking whether there are other basses out that can sing a G5 - yes, check out Ivan Rebroff. That guy has a range of F1 to A5 and an incredibly beautiful timbre and masterly voice control. He is from the old, analogue era, but was not less unique than Castellucci is in our digital era.

A little late but I love this version of the Headless Horseman. I kept waiting for a jump scare but this has become a go to song for just listening.

I LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEO ... YOU ARE FUN ; ) ... yes i like the song, composition, well ... everything ... but i also like your analysis ... the descending scale to set the scale of the music ... nice analysis .... then the keys and notes he is singing in ... you go on to do this with OOGIE BOOGIE as well ... you like his jumps ... another opera singer found another jump he does ... she said she know less than one hand worth of people who could do it live ... and the way you end the video ... very very endearing ... thank you ... chuck

yes , I saw him today for the first time - and I am blown away and massively impressed, and I also liked mele kalikimaka too. But the headless Horseman is the best, even if I could not analyse it as you did, thank you

Jess, I know this is an old post, but in case you visit or get notified... one great new suggestion from Geoff C. is his version of the classic Tennessee Ernie Ford's 16 Ton Song. Geoff cover's 16 ton in harmony with 4 of himself LOL and it's an amazing creative artistic creation you will enjoy!!!

Tim Foust of Home Free and Avi Kaplan are also spectacular Bass singers. Tim has a 6 octive range, Avi has the smoothest voice you've ever heard. Well worth listening to. Geoff is effortless in his changes. So much talent these 3 men have!!!

I am a bass/baritone since learning subharmonics and growl my range goes G1-G5 but those extremes are super tough, I’m sick rn and I can barely resonate a C2
@johndeeregreen4592
@johndeeregreen4592 3 жыл бұрын
@@upsidedownpyramid7617, my lowest resonate note is a B1 off-mic, so I am not doing much better. For something in the key of E, this works great to do a perfect 5th inverted with a chord-driven harmony. In the key of A, though, I have to use E2 for the 5th, which doesn't have the same effect.
