Opera vs. Chrome | I'm DUMPING Google Chrome?

I'm seeing a lot of people bashing each other in the comments for using certain browsers over others, I don't understand the loyalty people have towards browsers of all things. I use 3-4 browsers depending on whatever it is I'm doing because I don't see any of them being perfect for everything.

Opera was just the browser which the internet technician installed me with the internet itself. I'm using it since that time. I just have nothing in it to be so bad that I'd have to switch to another browser. Sometimes people around me are curious, like, why the hell Opera?.. But it's just 1) my first one; 2) totally OK.

I work on an IT helpdesk for a huge company. I just started using Opera as I had forgotten about it for awhile. Man is it amazing. I love it. When I have to attach files or screenshots to tickets instead of opening up file explorer it knows what my last few file were that I touched on my PC and suggests them as the files I want to attach. SUPER FAST, faster than chrome and ZERO compatibility issues as a matter of fact Opera plays better with some third party applications we use and those companies want us to use Edge for compatibility

Around 2006 a friend of mine and me regularly played WoW during our school breaks on our laptops. He used Opera. I then got curious and tried it out myself. Tried Firefox and Chrome over the years but always returned to Opera due to different issues and unwanted complications. Still use it today.

I’m a developer and in every company I worked in we tested for all browsers at least chrome and firefox, mind you I’m not in north america and most people use windows PCs around these parts. But still, in software quality assurance it is ideal to test for all possible user configs. And another thing. When we develop in with php and html these all follow a standard framework more or less that is 80-90% browser agnostic so ideally multiple systems/browsers should be able to decode/translate these lines of scripts into things on-screen. The only time you’d run into something is if a browser has a known bug for how to deal with a certain function or you are using propriety shit like flash which is dead now and used to need it’s own plugins. But more or less you wouldn’t have much issues with either browsers in terms of functionality at least 80-90% of the time

Unfortunately, all chromium based browsers are same for developers. I prefer opera because of power saving option. I use opera on Linux, I test Brave, Firefox, Falcon, Safari, Edge, but I think now days opera is far better than other Chromium browsers. Edge and Brave are good, but It's not good as opera. Vivaldi is look like opera without power saving capability. I use Opera in laptop and Firefox or Brave for work and testing My sites. In mac, safari is good for battery, but opera is better. If I use windows on a Virtual Machine, I usually use MS Edge.

You can have separate profiles of Opera GX which is a different version of Opera along side this Opera has something called workspaces which is basically the same thing

I just got opera gx im still not sure about it being partially closed source and really I will keep firefox as my main browser while I mess around with opera gx I like firefox since its not google and its not chromium and I like how they are one of the very few browsers that use their own engine which still drives some competition.

I literally can't use any other browser than opera, it is the SINGLE browser whose picture in picture has video controls in it. I also use the sidebar a ton cause I don't want to manually open messenger every time I get a notification, etc. Opera just has a ton of features that once I got used to, can't live without imo.

Opera has been my choice since even before it was chromium based purely for features and access to advanced settings it has offered over the others, but recently some banks have displayed ad's saying no longer developing for Opera. It will only be a slight annoyance to have to install another browser just to login to my bank for a few mins.

I used Opera many years ago, I dumped Chrome maybe 3 or 4 years ago and I won't go back. Opera has much better privacy. Popup blockers in Opera work here in youtube too, I get no ads that I have to skip at all with the proper extension. Opera works fine, I have had no web problems, but there are a SMALL handful of sites, streaming sites in particular that refuse to play for Opera. Of all the streaming sites I've visited, probably 3 didn't work right or disallowed because it detected Opera. I'm not in love with Opera, but I like it more than all of the other browsers, Firefox is #2 especially when I want to download streaming, including youtube. Pity Opera didn't extend the privacy features to the mobile version.

Bro Opera has been the better browser since 2013 when they switched to chromium and baked their own rendering engine. While Chrome suffered from silly UI bugs, memory leaks, stability, and questionable time (years) to fix these bugs, Opera had none. I haven't a clue why anyone would stick to Chrome. My impression of most Google products on the surface level has been negative, and as a dev myself I can see that they are all terribly managed.

I’ve been using Opera as far back as 2007. One thing that I always enjoyed about Opera is on the rare occasions where a download was interrupted, Opera is able to resume the download quicker than most other browsers. Over the years, Opera has gotten better and better, to the point where I’ve used Opera more than Firefox and WAY more than Chrome. In fact, the first browser I installed on my latest laptops have been Opera. It’s good to see Opera getting some love after all these years.

its starting to sound more and more like the opera gx is the best browser for old laptops(or any laptop since few budget models come with more than 8GB of ram and todays internet is a huge meemory hog) mostly for its ram limit feature but if it also supposrts the picture in picture thing, it might just be the remedy for the smaller screen space such devices ususally have.

I've been using Macs since they came out in 1984... so you won't be surprised to find out I've been using Safari for the most part for the last 20 years. Until today (I think... still testing stuff out!)... I installed Opera for the tab management features and so far I've been extremely impressed with the privacy, the interesting features, and the performance. I am not sure I'm 100% ready to switch off Safari but that's just end user insecurity talking. ;)

Same, I was about to move off Chrome but the lack of synchronizations (except Flow which is close to useless) from Windows to IOS blocked me. It really is a bummer, I really like the Windows Opera browser it is such a great product, but men I wished it worked with IOS.

Tried for long time, but opera has a lot of flaws. - ip adresses in adres bar show up search in searchengine even when feature is turned off causing local ip adresses not to work anymore. - Default shortcuts on the page like "facebook" pointing to opera website instead of facebook "so far privacy". - You need to configure a lot to make it work nicely without all commercial suggestions. - sync accounts on new PC's doesnt work. You still need to transfer your data and settings. - dapps popups are annoying and suggestion for crypto wallet can't be turned off... - not all sites work well with opera - Some extensions doesnt work for opera while it works with chrome. because of the browser detection.

Chromium and Chrome are not the same thing. There is not reason to avoid Chromium-based browsers. Chromium is open source, and Opera has heavily modified Chromium's code anyway.

Whenever I replace devices, the first download has been Brave for several so far. Has it's problems but it's otherwise been smooth sailing. Fast loading compared to Chrome and more, much more stable then Firefox. I do hope they fix the crashing issue, just used to always get really unstable after several hours and I got to recognise the symptoms and sometimes I'd get it shutdown in time, otherwise it would easily take several minutes or more to unfreeze so I could close it. Mostly I'd just crashed it then put up with and try to ignore the admonishment that I didn't close it down properly! My only grumble is the Tab list on Brave is notoriously out of date. telling me I've only just looked a tab minutes ago, when I'm sure it was yesterday and I get all the tabs up. It gets too long. I liked tabs per page better. Tab search on it is great tho'. Another one is; load too many tabs and they go off screen and the only way to see them is on tab list or delete other tabs until it comes back on the screen. Second download after Brave is up and running, is Open Office, brilliant. My sister pays a AU$100 every year and has been for a decade, and I keep telling her, get Open Office. Ooh, I might not open my writings. Umm, yes it will, it opens more .docs than Microsloft. I say, download it, get it running, test it and if it doesn't work, delete it. Nothing lost and it didn't cost.

Intentionally handicapped. It's clear whoever is maintaining this browser wants it to stay 3rd tier so they have less work to do, they don't want efficient and more heavy users. It's ridiculous to have a prompt for every drag and drop bookmark, and if you search for how to turn it off you can't. And a closed 'suggestion' from 2021. The ONLY reason for developers to be so ridiculous they only allow their own much slower preference is because they DON'T WANT actual users. The poor usability aspects of Opera are intentional.
