You'd think that the greener/woodland patterns would work better in this sort of heavily vegetated terrain, but I actually think this OCP (Operational Camouflage Pattern) works best of all in the various tests he's done. Most woodland patterns are darker, and tend to stand out more than the slightly lighter/paler patterns such as OCP. Very good video - well done.
@hanburgundy43177 жыл бұрын
I think the pattern works wonders against the ground - especially in his environment; lots of greys and tans - but once he rises to anything crouch or above, the pattern sticks out like a sore thumb, to me. I think if it had a bit more green in it, it would work better at a crouch or a standing position. Still, not a bad pattern.
@RM-ld3gc6 жыл бұрын
Brent.....OCP was excellent in this coloured environment. It especially blended in well in the shaded areas of the forest/bush. I have found that it is also very effective in the bamboo areas of SE Asia in the dry season. Can send you some photos for you if you would like to see them. Cheers mate, Rosco
@G1NZOU5 жыл бұрын
I think the MultiCam patterns, while they don't have as much contrast for breaking up a silhouette as old school Woodland, have excellent qualities when standing in shade, you don't end up looking like a dark blob.

@ALegitimateYoutuber8 жыл бұрын
Riad Haidar the mud smear thing doesn't work, well it does but only for like a few seconds. Thermal blanks I don't think will work since they are so thin and are meant to trap heat, thus would easily show up as an unnaturally occurring thermal signature.

I spotted most of the hiding places in a matter of seconds, so effectiveness is hard to judge. But there's also a difference between knowing what to look for beforehand and stumbling into a scene like this in real life without knowing that an "enemy" is there.

@808INFantry11X7 жыл бұрын
Jordan Hoffman they more or less are the same except for the slight difference in pattern shape or a little more color to adapt to certain terrain like Multicam favors desert and urban terrains while OCP scorpion favor woodland a little more and British multi terrain is like a variation of multicam with different design both are probably the most universal camouflage there is in the military market right now
@hanburgundy43177 жыл бұрын
That slight variation in pattern can make a significant difference. I don't own any British MTP so I haven't tested it and I'm not sure if Brent has tested it yet, but just judging from the side-by-side comparison the MTP incorporates longer splotches, essentially mimicking existing foliage e.g. sticks and branches. It's admittedly a small difference, but I'm betting it's effective.
@G1NZOU5 жыл бұрын
@@hanburgundy4317 I own some MTP, and personally I think it's great, it matches just fine against any MultiCam gear I'm wearing like my backpacks, and the DPM brushstroke shapes match foliage like branches very well. Actual real world performance between the three is likely very close.

I agree how many people consider Multicam and the like to be universal. When under shadow, it matches the foliage really well. The only issue I have is that when in broad daylight, and against a summer green backdrop, they light up like a birthday candle. I like specific patterns myself, so in the summer here in Michigan, I picked Multicam Tropic. I would also probably prefer a camo that was a little too dark as opposed to a little too light, like Multicam. It seems like a little too dark doesn't make you as easily visible as a little too light.
@Wagnasty1732 жыл бұрын
exactly, where i live is mostly bright green grass 9 months of the year, ocp definitely works but if im prone in a field i'd stick out like a sore thumb, not that i have a huge problem with that i did two tours in ACUs. mixing and matching ocp and tropic seem to be my best bet.

It was so hard to find them when they're wearing OCP and I didn't know where they were! Even in 720p, he was easy to spot in that one. Do I just have better eyes than everyone else? Forget about color, just look for a human silhouette, you'll see him most of the time in this sort of pattern. The higher contrast patterns are more difficult, provided the overall design is not too dark or too light. Multicam, and its derivatives like this one, are much too flat for this sort of environment. They do better in more open environments where the light is flatter.

First I'd ever seen any of this guy's videos. While I was able to correctly guess where he was in many of the tests, I also kind of know what to look for, AND to look for him in the first place. It wouldn't have been much easier if my crappy connection results in my browser automatically selecting a lower resolution. That being said, with just the uniform and some face paint, I'd say this stuff worked pretty damn well. He didn't attach anything to his clothing, like foliage or whatever, that would have helped break up his outline even more, but just staying still with some plants between him and the viewer worked pretty damn well. So now I'm going to have to see how well the all terrain tiger stripe pattern works.

This out performs traditional Multicam in a greener environment by a significant margin. WOW its pretty damn good camo! primary i was confused about OCP comparing to MultiCam but this day i definitely saying that is the best camo pattern so far. in Europe i still cant get this camo with new ACU :(
@austinhoover37948 жыл бұрын
good video I think the ocp/ multicam is good for arid and woodland environments its not the best for tropical environments but will do the job okay

OCP and Multicam were designed for transitional environment, more of a "universal" pattern, a jack of all trade, master of none.
@dane.17568 жыл бұрын
not too shabby. i used to hate MultiCam but it's grown on me. but between the 3 different patterns... what would be the specific areas you'd pick for each one? to me MultiCam seems to be the all-around-go-to. i feel all 3 probably would have done well in this exercise. IMHO. great vids man.
@Brent03318 жыл бұрын
+Dan E. Thanks brother, I think all these of these patterns offer relatively the same level of performance. If I had to recommend one I would say buy MTP because there is plenty of great quality British military garments on the surplus market right now at great prices. You wont be spending as much as you would if you buy Multicam or OCP.

Hey Brent did you see the new US army camo , it is a mix between DpM , Multicam and woodland , really good , I am getting it when it comes out
@fractaltigerstripe69556 жыл бұрын
Brent0331, pretty good video, substandard camouflage. The Scorpion w2 pattern should be phased out when the entire military decides on a pattern that is used universally by every branch. Such as a Hyper stealth pattern, or a homegrown, omni directional fractal pattern.

Thanks for all of the time, effort & money you put into these vids. They're awesome. Have you ever viewed any of these patterns with night vision goggles (not for the IR visibility, but for the color comparison)? I've heard that some of these patterns really stick out in the NVG's color alone, without any heat source.
@Brent03318 жыл бұрын
No, I don't personally own and good quality generation NVGs to do that.
@oldsnay69344 жыл бұрын
This camo is better but I still notice you in almost every still frame in except for the one where you almost buried in brush. It’s good but still dosnt hide form very well

Hey brother! love watching your videos man especially the patrol considerations, learned more from your vids then when i was in the army (19D cavalry scout). Think it would ever be possible to do a camo effectiveness video on South African Defense Force Nutria brown and the pattern 83 battle jacket? (strongly considering getting that LBE for various reason)

Thanks brother, as far as the SAF uniform/gear I don't know if I'll ever get that filmed, however, you can watch my video on Coyote tan to get an idea on how it may preform.

Multicam and ocp are definitely good, but if you can I want to see the multicam black to see if it's a gimmick or can possibly be good for urban nights
@Brent03318 жыл бұрын
+vahebaldemian I really do not have a forum in which I can "test" urban patterns. Urban patterns are really more for intimidation rather than actual camouflage application.
@vahebaldemian8 жыл бұрын
+Brent0331 i had a good feeling the black was kinda gummicky. the tropic variation would be interesting in that same environment you used for the OCP
@mickeyg72198 жыл бұрын
Desert/arid pattern works very well in urban environment, basically it offer camouflage both to the urban environment and arid environment, where the urban pattern can only perform in urban area. That's why the military doesn't really fielded urban pattern because desert/arid pattern can do the same job.

Brent - any plans to review Polish "Camogrom" - their version of multicam ? Helikon makes a very cool uniform in that pattern
@Brent03318 жыл бұрын
Not at the moment. If its similar to Multicam I have videos on Multicam, MTP and OCP already posted. You should be able to get a good idea on how effective it would be by watching those.
@G1NZOU8 жыл бұрын
Seems to be only minimally less effective than MultiCam, MultiCam has the vertical details which I think are meant to mimic small branches and brush. As a cost saving alternative to MultiCam, the slight disadvantage seems worth it considering the thousands of items of kit needed to be produced. I even think it may perform better in green vegetation as it seems to contain more and larger areas of green in it. I do think the MTP pattern has an advantage over both though with the brushstroke style shapes, they seem to disrupt the outline better and the various directions of the shapes manage to mimic branches and foliage shapes from whatever angle you view them from.
@G1NZOU8 жыл бұрын
I'm also always impressed at how well the MultiCam family performs in summer woods, the lightness of the pattern helps to avoid the dark silhouette that some other patterns produce, and also seem to reflect the surrounding colour, at points in the video like 10:20 you almost perfectly blend with the background colours.

This OCP pattern I picked up from the Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth. They have all branches of the U.S. Military there so they sell Army utilities.

Anyone who has ever used faded OCP in very green environments knows it looks like desert camo in the jungle and sticks out like a sore thumb. Its great when its fresh, but when it fades, its awful. The whole pattern needs to be a shade or two darker in order for it to last as a true "universal" camo pattern IMO.

In you're own opinion, do you think this has any advantages over multicam? Also, what about this compared to multicam tropic?

I love to see you get hold of the new AMCU pattern getting issued to the ADF. In my opinion it looks a little too green, almost tropical like.
@harrisonking81568 жыл бұрын
AMCU uses the same colours as DPCU but almost the same pattern an AMP OCP. From what I have seen, AMCU works fantastically, especially in Australia. In my opinion, it is by far the coolest looking camo out there :D
@harrisonking81568 жыл бұрын
Plus, the closest countries to Australia that we are most likely to have to go to (China invades them, they try to invade us, whatever) are all very tropical.
@mintrose33998 жыл бұрын
Yeah but there gonna give to the forward deployed or already forward deployed in Iraq. Anyone else notice that it's a desert country? Also i'm pretty sure AMCU is just a derivative of the original multicam pattern with the jellybean features of DPCU, i don't think the pattern was taken from OCP.
@harrisonking81568 жыл бұрын
+Mint Rose AMP OCU is Australia's first attempt at a replacement camouflage for DPCU overseas. Stand for Australian Multicam Pattern Operational Camouflage Uniform. Developed by crye using their multicam colour scheme and a mix of the multicam pattern with DPCU. Look it up compared with multicam to see what I mean. Also, middle east is not all desert, a lot of it is mountainous and covered by bush, or for everyone else, forest. AMCU was not aimed to be great for desert because it is not fielded in the desert, and will not be fielded in the desert much more. Though I agree, AMCU is a bad choice for our troops now going to Iraq for the Taji task group and Afghanistan for the Highroad operation. AMP OCU would work a lot better
@mintrose33998 жыл бұрын
+Mr. SirKing I wrote some pretty dumb stuff, i'm still confused with this stuff. Gotta rephrase. Yes the ME is filled with different terrain and shrubbery, it's just that where they are being deployed is mostly the flat desert places, unlike the mountains. Side note, do you do cadets?
