"Hope Leaves" In the corner beside my window There hangs a lonely photograph There is no reason I'd never notice A memory that could hold me back There is a wound that's always bleeding There is a road I'm always walking And I know you'll never return to this place Gone through days without talking There is a comfort in silence So used to losing all ambition Struggling to maintain what's left There is a wound that's always bleeding There is a road I'm always walking And I know you'll never return to this place Once undone, there is only smoke Burning in my eyes to blind To cover up what really happened Force the darkness unto me There is a wound that's always bleeding There is a road I'm always walking And I know you'll never return to this place.

Like wtf? They are actually some of the coolest lyrics ever written over such amazingly chill music.. it’s so refreshing looking at videos of Mikael doing a play through of an incomprehensible song and it’s like yeah... this is noice..

The beautifully simple guitar solo seals it for me. The emotion, the guitar tone and Mikael's technique... Otherworldly! It's a shame Opeth died when they split. They could it all. Mellow, heavy, melodic, all with pure class and originality.

this album is basically opeth showcasing themselves that not only they can do heavy stuff that wrecks but also the soft and emotional poetry that will absolutely shred you to pieces. I dont think anyone can listen to this song without getting emotionally wrecked.

Opeth’s music isn’t separated in heavy and soft. Even their heaviest songs have soft sections, and heavy music isn’t less beautiful, emotional and poetic that soft music. The ending of Black Rose Immortal is pure art though it’s just Mikael screaming for 18 seconds straight and heavy riff slowly fading out

To write an album like this one takes an artist...but to actually write this album from "leftover" parts from a previous full length album takes talent beyond talent. Peter Lindgren said during the recording of deliverance that someone suggested making another album or a B-side since there were alot of mellow parts leftover and they didn't know what to do with them.... hence the legendary Damnation album.
@felidiazbo
@felidiazbo 6 жыл бұрын
They weren't b-sides, they originally wanted to make Deliverance and Damnation a double album from the start, but the record label didn't let them do that for a number of reasons.

In the sensible and noble solitude of music is were we found the way to those things people always look for in everywhere but never in their insides: love, an answer, compassion, empathy, calm, reflection and comprehension God bless you all people

I always come back to this song whenever Im not feeling ok for whatever reason. Its tightly connected with sad feelings, sad memories but restoration at the same time. It doesn't necessarily make me feel better (at least not instantly) but I feel its like a "base" to unleash my current thoughts and feelings. Never has a song had that much of a healthy use in my life
