Fun fact: Mikael’s voice actually sounds like this because it’s so godly. They have to edit out his natural reverb when recording songs.

As far as lyrics meaning in past albums, The Ghost Reveries to me was a hard hitting story of a girl who lost her mother and turned to Satan, and the whole album followed her journey until ultimately, she lost everything she loved as a result, which is suggested in "Isolation Years". That album meant a lot to me becuase it described a path I started to go down as a teen and traveled down at a faster rate for a while after losing my father. All of this band's albums are absolutely remarkable, though. It took me a while to warm up to In Cauda Venenum, but now I love it. Absolutely beautiful, and kudos to Mikael for writing everything himself and taking the reins with it. Really impressive.

Speaking as a young adult, it's easy to loose ourselves in useless stuff just as a form detatchment from the scary adult reality that we are just learning about. This transition from a careless teenager to a responsible adult is quite overwhelming. I try to spend majority of my Internet time learning about new things but sometimes I catch myself I'm falling into the hole of irrelevant things and loneliness, too. I cannot wait for the 27th of September! I'm in love with these short bits of insight into the album - it makes the release so much more anticipated

All generations have their own unique worries and fears about growing up and being a responsible human. We will grow up regardless of our overwhelm, and far less prepared if we don't exercise some very difficult self-discipline. Avoidance actually compounds anxiety as consequences escalate. It takes a hell of a lot of willpower not to get caught up with useless distractions. No other generation has had to contend with the ever present blue light of technology. I honestly think procrastination and disconnection contribute to feelings of overwhelm, helplessness and poor self-image. Hiding out with technology isn't the solution. We will be forced to reckon with far more dire consequences if we cannot cultivate the focus for tasks which aren't bundled with instant gratification

The reason reaction videos are a thing is an extension of the loneliness issue. It's always cool to see people hear or see something for the first time if it affects them in some way. Similar thing for gaming videos. They are as irrelevant as reality tv but more personal. As for lyrics and meaning.. Opeths Music itself conveys feelings and stories that's the power of great music.

I'm very interested in the new album lyrically since he has taken a new direction with it. There's nothing wrong with his old style, I enjoy the poetic and storytelling sort of lyrics myself, but this should be an interesting thing to hear his observations on the current world. He's spot on with the whole loneliness while being connected to everything and increase in mental illness thing.

It’s interesting to me that Mikael talks about loneliness. I was listening to this album earlier today and part of the way through experiencing it I thought, "This music is taking me to a place where aloneness isn’t lonely. I’m in a place of beautiful, peaceful solitude." It’s unusual that current/modern music is able to transport me like that. So I appreciate that extra level to the music. It’s an album that I can become very immersed in. Wonderful experience. 🖤

@nielsenjesp3 жыл бұрын
divinefallfromgrace thats a little misunderstanding about jantelagen. What it says is that you’re not born better or more worth than anybody else. You can still be very good at something, and develop a skill. you can be good at something if you practise and put a lot of effort in it, but it could also have been your neighbour in the same place. You’re not the center of the universe, basically! ;-)

It's kinda disappointing to know that many lyrics from Opeth doesn't have meaning, that they are mere hollow puzzle words.
@divinefallfromgrace4 жыл бұрын
Don't put to much faith in that, he was downplaying. A lot of what he writes is INTENSELY personal, and usually hidden in metaphor or allegory. A lot of such musicians/songwriters don't like to extensively discuss their most inner of workings... just like people at large. I do see what he's saying with some of his lyrics, but the likes of 'Still Life' and more modern stuff like 'Lovelorn Crime' and 'Universal Truth' are not lacking in meaning.
