He uses this style of rhythm in the songs Master's Apprentice and Harlequin Forest as a type of pre breakdown

@Jack Manges How did you achieve that tone? And also how did you learn all the parts? Still Life has some pretty tricky dense riffs where it's difficult to make out the different guitar parts and hard to tell exactly what's going on
@VignetteQ3 жыл бұрын
@@ihsahnakerfeldt9280 Guitar tone is from Archetype Abasi. That plus whatever I did in terms of mixing, though as I recall I didn't really do anything in terms of the mixing for this cover because it was my first one and I didn't know what I was doing (still don't) - my "The Moor" cover especially sounds better than this one since I did some basic EQing and other stuff to make my guitars sit a little better. A little too much overbearing low end on the guitars here and on my "Godheads" cover. You are correct that figuring out the parts can certainly be difficult. Watching live videos was a huge help, just to see what their hands were doing. Sometimes though, even that isn't completely trustworthy. I play that chaotic riff like at 7:48 slightly different than they do live because I think that they did it closer to that way on the record. I'm certainly not always correct though - there's quite a few things here that I've actually realized are played differently on the record than what I had thought. Little late to fix it though, so hopefully it still sounds okay!

Could you say what exactly you're doing between the slide at 3:18 and the Am add9 (I think?) chord - it sounds to me like you're sliding up to 6 on the E string like this - /6--6--5, but it looks like your right hand is playing the D-A-E strings in sequence, with your index finger playing 5p0 on the A string? Many thanks!
@VignetteQ Жыл бұрын
Hey! It's a little weird actually, I double two notes in that sequence with fretted/open string playing the same note. It's not something I can think of Mikael really doing in any other riffs so it probably isn't accurate. First I slide up to the Bb on the low E string. Then I play the D-A-E strings in sequence like you say, with the open D, the A string fretted on 5 (same note), and still the Bb on the low E. After that, I play 5th fret on the low E (an A), followed by another A with the open A string. After that, it's that x-0-2-4-x-x Am shape you pointed out. Again, probably not accurate, but it seemed to work with the rhythm and notes I could hear there. I haven't really sat down and analyzed that part since I made this cover so I might come to a different conclusion nowadays. Hope that helps.
