Opie was annoying as hell during the first three years of the XM era and because so many of the most classic clips from the show come from 04-06 everyone just associates Opie as being that same annoying version when he actually chilled out and became a great host the longer the show went on satellite. Around this time (2007) is when he met his wife and he started calming down and stopped trying to act cool and edgy all the time. Coincidentally this is right at the same time that Ant started becoming more openly racist and annoying about his politics and letting it side track the show like Opie used to side track it for Howard drama or whatever dumb trend he was obsessed with.

Yeah, her pitch control and stamina wasn't great, but you can have an amazing ear for music and have your technique down pat and still have a bad voice, and I don't think she had a bad voice. That Nikia girl HAD IT. There was full potential there just under the surface. Isn't that also what these contests are all about? That they WANT to be proven wrong, and have been, on several occasions? She's a hell of a lot better than 99% of people that waste their time with absolutely no abilities at all. She has all the makings of a REAL star, all she needed was a bit of work and dedication. They should have at least let her through into the contest and gave her the opportunity to improve over the course of the show. She could've done it. Even those they pass through have all kinds of different styles and abilities. Some of them couldn't sing with range and multiple octaves if they tried. There are pop singers, show singers, crooners, once in awhile you'll get Aretha Franklin. This is where this show is bullshit. They're looking for a mix between Whitney Houston and God. It ain't gonna happen. They have the balls to get pissed off and nasty cuz they want to be blown away. Ironically, that's completely deluded - they have no idea how fucking rare that is, IF they see it at all. Paula Abdul couldn't sing like that if they paid her - she was a cookie-cutter pop singer who's greatest contribution to music was learning dance with cartoon cats. It's the same for all the female judges, in fact. They were kitschy, trendy, short-lived musical flavors with "good enough" types of pop voices that they could be marketed and sell a few albums over the course of a few years. None of them could hold a candle to legendary divas.

The last girl was not bipolar, she had borderline personality disorder. Bi polar peoples emotions don’t change rapidly like that, they have high and lows that they can feel for days or even weeks at a time. Borderline is an emotional regulatory disorder, their emotions can change by the minute. My brother has it and he does the same things as that last girl. He’ll be ultra happy one minute and if you say the wrong thing he will flip shit, you constantly have to walk around eggshells around borderline people. In other words, don’t get involved with people that have it, they are the most draining people to be around.

The part about Nikia that made me feel bad was that she probably didn’t even know that all that “speed and energy” was a subconscious compensatory behavior. She seemed like a legitimately fun person who got rewarded socially for being that way, and honestly, if I heard her in church I’d think she was great. However….. it all unfortunately comes out the second she slows down and has to sing slowly- the quality rapidly declines. She ran through everything so fast as a way to cover up the little mistakes. She could have a career as an open mic or local singer, but it just wasn’t the best on the big stage. Just felt bad. She didn’t see it coming.
