Oy. I'd take Lou Reed over Zappa any day. I mean, certainly you can make a case they were both pretentious, but Lou also had some damn catchy songs. I don't pretend to know Zappa's entire discography, but what I have heard is unlistenable. My buddy made me listen to his "concept" album Thing Fish. It actual made me angry, like legit angry, haha. I really try to resist that "they're only pretending to like it" thing. I think it's such a cringey attitude. But I honestly don't get what people like about Zappa. Did he ever write a catchy song? Lou had some dang catchy stuff. That first VU album, that was full of catchy melodies.

I've been accused of that myself, about other bands, and it's such a narrow viewpoint. You really think people are listening to music they don't like, just 'cause you don't get it? I listened to this when it first aired and it was hilarious that after they shared him for an hour and right after they got off the air Ron and fez came on and Ron was so upset and talked about what a legend he was for ,3 hours. Two completely different perspectives. Difference strokes for different folks I guess. It was one of the few times I was ever able to listen to both shows live like that.

Anthony hates almost every kind of music except hair metal. Not into most of Reed’s stuff, but the VU album with the subway entrance on the cover IS an amazing album.

Yep. Lou Reed's early stuff with David Bowie was great too. Anthony loves the Red Hot Chili Peppers, so that should tell you something - you know, the same band that put out a song called "Hump de bump" and features a douchey Californian heroin addict trying to rap.
