That final moment between Oppenheimer and Einstein pushed this movie into masterpiece territory for me. Exactly the type of magic that makes Nolan so special.

Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet, Oppenheimer has been a legendary run for Nolan and Hoytema. I hope they keep up this historical drama / sci-fi back and forth for years to come. (Yes I am a Tenet enjoyer) Nick's understanding of the cold war and the USSR is comically American.

I would put Inception and The Dark Knight above it. It is equal to Interstellar at 3 for me. Was entranced by the movie and loved that it allowed the events and people to remain complicated. Everything with Jean and much of the opening half an hour or so didn't really add much and just felt like it was there to be accurate to history rather than because it was particularly interesting or well massaged into the rest of the story being told
@nikig2382 Жыл бұрын
@@zaneplatt3533The movie is called Oppenheimer for a reason. Without the beginning part it wouldn’t be a proper biopic. If it was just supposed to be about the bomb, the title would have reflected that. But it didn’t, so it was necessary to see the man before he became involved with the Manhattan Project, and it worked as well as any biopic’s backstory. What’s “interesting” differs from person to person, so the only thing that matters is what needs to be there, and this part did.

The point of not bombing Kyoto wasn’t because it was a pretty city that they’d like to visit, but because it was an ancient and cultural fixture of Japan and would likely incense the Japanese instead of weakening them. Fyi, I read the biography of Gen. McArthur and the reason was bec Pre. Roosevelt had their honeymoon there. He felt in love with the place bec of its ambience and atmosphere When Japan entered the war, he specifically instructed the war generals not to bomb the place, for the same reasons. But alas the Japanese had spy in the upper echelon of US government and they learned it. So they built their war factories there. Decades later, when Lee Iococca visited Kyoto, he wondered why the war machineries and factories are there in such a beautiful and peaceful place. And that was their explainations. 😊😅
