oh yeah see what you mean, you basically need to ignore the bar in those first few seconds because the depth is too shallow but when it goes deeper it sees the strength and the bar climbs higher for white

Start paying attention to Magnus' king safety in his games. Notice his king has a nice pawn wall in front of it with a breathing hole. Whereas Nodirbek has a king with back rank threat issues and a backwards bishop acting as a pawn. That is what allowed Magnus' rook tactics to gut Black at the end. And then you see Magnus' king just slip out of check into the breathing hole on the h file. I notice in most of his games Magnus' king safety is what keeps him out of trouble.

Can someone explain this please? At 1:35 on video, when black goes Knight F6 Then Magnus castles, why doesn’t black take the pawn on e5? It’s undefended seems good to take it wouldn’t it?

The rook will go to e1, a pawn will be captured back really soon and there will be lots of trouble.

I’m sure you’re right in that it’s not a good move, but I still don’t get why as the black pawn on e5 is protected by a knight, and could be protected by pawn to d6 as well Like you say I guess opening up the e file for rook could lead to trouble. At my low level I’d take it and see what happens lol

Black will be forced to save its knight and suddenly the e file gets opened, with the vulnerable king still in the center and a powerful rook staring it straight in the face.

Kramnik was the big winner: Hikaru, on his birthday not only ended up with cake but also egg all over his face. Really poor performance when Hikaru has to play face-to-face against opponents and doesn't have access to "performance enhancing technologies" (PETs) from his bedroom. So the result was "interesting" and Hikaru should be investigated further.
