Although I have a mixed opinion about Galvatron, I confess he, as a laser cannon, was more independent than his former self, Megatron, whose original alternate mode (a silver Walther P-38) was ridiculous. That being said, a self-propelled laser cannon is more powerful than a gun.

I got this figure and I love it! It actually is in perfect scale with the Masterpiece Rodimus Convoy (Rodimus Prime). They look great standing side by side on my shelf. Too bad they did not have an American voice option with Leonard Nimoy as Galvatron. That would have been the icing on the cake.

I think a Masterpiece Galvatron would be much more accurate and would do great justice to the character. Galvatron in TF4 ftw!

I remember when I got this same figure, I was actually surprised how he was...well, I wouldn't say well-articulated, but he certainly wasn't the brick I expected him to be. Also, it speaks miles about Takara's dedication when Hasbro gets some guys who don't even sound anything like the original VAs to do the sound chip voices, but Takara gets the original VAs to do the job; in this case, the guy screaming in Japanese atcha is Seizo Kato, the seiyuu of G1 Megatron/Galvatron.

He's like the Masterpiece of G1 figures. Very cool transformation and articulation. His color reminds me of MP Shockwave.

Even though the Transformers figures today are far superior as far as articulated joints and appearances.. and weapons, this figure still holds up pretty well.

My brother goes to China once a year for business. Ine year he brought me back 50 plastic recasts of that matrix (25 autobot, 25 decepticon). They even came with the chain. He got them for 10cents each. Its awesome having those floating around in my collection :) Also, the galvatron figure while dated is pure awesome!

Ive had this guy for a quite a long time. I must admit I absolutely love this Galvatron. I have the original but, this one just has the right colors on it. Can't ignore the bling bling matrix necklace. Major grats on a very excellent review.

This is the G1 Galvatron that should have ALWAYS been. I have this still and mine is still sealed new. I was going to open him, but now it is so valuable that while I am so tempted I just cannot find myself to do it!

I don't know if anyone else mentioned already, but did you know that Galvatron's matrix also fits inside G1 Optimus Prime's chest cavity? It's the perfect size and has a slot that fits between the seats of Prime's cab (at least in the music label version with the retooled head).

the metal matrix that comes with him is the exact same one that came with the ytk special edition reissue of optimus prime. if you turn it upside down, you can plug it into optimus primes chest by clipping it onto the bar between op's seats

awesome fig dude loved the review but heres somethin interesting u might find useful if u dont wish to have the necklace around galvatrons neck at risk of paint scratching then u could remove the chain on it and store it somewhere then get a longer chain and use it as a necklace that way u will always have a piece of transformers around ur neck

I was never a fan of Galvatron's alt-mode, it always looks like a gimpy drill-like cannon thing. He does look very nice in his robot mode aside from the Schwarzenegger biceps. Great review.

In one episode where Cyclonus trys to cure Galvatron of his insanity it is mentioned that the plasma from his Plasma baths leaked into his head a little and caused him to go crazy.

Galvatron got crazy because of that plasma-planet thingy he was thrown into. I guess it damaged his cirquits. Plus those "psychologists" on that web-world mentioned that it was some kind of plasma thing that had damaged Galvatron's cirquits.

The only thing I don't like about this figure is that the top of Galvatron's head looks like it was chopped off of bit. In the cartoon movie/cartoon series the top of his head was shaped like a crown, ironically like the crown Starscream wore in his coronation ceremony. So this toy looks incredible for the most part. Just more articulation on the head.

man i had this guy for years now and never knew his legs bent at the knee. nice call op. as far as why he went nuts in the show, the plasma pool he got flung into after the movie deteriorated some of his cerebral circuitry. basically hes got acid disolving his brain, making him super violent

I recently purchased this after i saw this review - albeit it was pricey at 300USD but it was in a AFA 85 graded glass casing so i guess it was an ok deal considering its been 11 years since its release. Great review, finally Galvatron in all its right colors and the chained matrix :D

Another change from the original Hasbro version is that he has a scowling facial expression of sorts; the new boxart is supposed to show that. And while this is a G1 figure, it sure beats the Classics and Henkei figures...

Another thing you didn't mention is that they changed the face sculpt (that sneer he has, like on the box) AND the inner electronics from the original. The innards of the original toy were a white light and just the blaster sounds, and it took a 9V battery; the Anime Version one has a red LED light, those sounds you showed off, and it takes a pair of AAA batteries. Also, eHobby did this version in the colors of the original toy (gray) as Galvatron II, to represent the Marvel Comics version.

I think the mind rapes Unicron put on him probably added to that insanity, torture can drive someone mad, Galvatron brought to his knees more than once in agony due to it. You can see it when he fights Hot Rod in the final battle, he's not the calm, collected Galvatron he was before, he's already suffering mental problems, and just ends up trying to choke him to death, rather than shoot him. Still, awesome figure. :D

The thing is new characters in the cartoon have always been introduced for the sake of introducing new toys to kids and are rarely ever relevant to the plot, hence why subsequent series like Beast Wars and so on have comparatively few named characters onscreen because the show has more concentrated character development arcs to it. The decision to kill off old characters in the movie (besides drama) is in order to give way to the new characters and at the same time new toys.

@xboxbox1 at this point im sure you could pick up the 86 movie on dvd somewhere. I got lucky enough to get a copy on vhs from my uncle. As for the symbol, its just his decepticon logo upside down, and from the angle of the shot it looks autobot, i had to pull up a picture and compare it, but its decepticon.

I think this Galavtron toy is awesome--esepcially with the redeco. The only problem that it has is that it literally towers over the original Hot Rod and Rodmus Prime toys. How does it scale with the new Masterpiece Hot Rod/Rodimus Prme figure?
