This is indeed an exceptionally good tutorial. In particular I'm grateful for the info about CG Wiki. That's fantastic. Thanks a lot

Thanks first of all. Sorry for newbie question and for bad english too, but creating the cop2net node, H19.5 give a error (child render node invalid) and tutorial stop... Image sequences was been regularly assigned and the same error appears with downloaded example file, both 16 and 17 versions... Thanks again.

Hey sorry you’re having trouble! If you check out the description, I have a link to a free updated file on gumroad that should be working. Hope this helps!

hello, thx very much fot this tut. I use houdini 17.5 and i download file from gumroad, everything work good in view port, but when i try to render in mantra i si only particles from image and mesh and volume from simulation. Can you please help me how to render particle simulation?
@RobAvaler6 жыл бұрын
Ugh :D Really struggled to render this rig out, principled shader can't see Point Cd (even with Use Point Color chackbox on, still uses Base Color). Viewport is colorful, renders black and white... It needs to be something stupid, any ideas?

Rob Aval are you viewing full RGB in your viewport or only the Alpha channel?

Excellent tutorial Your work is incredible. Sorry for my basic question but I'm new to Houdini ... I used a Motion Graphics video with Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) for the tutorial. Once finished the tutorial How can I export with the same frame, perspective and resolution my particles in Houdini, to match the motion graphics to work in after effects? Thank you
@MarkFancherFX6 жыл бұрын
Eduardo Garay de la Mora I just made a camera of the same resolution and pointed it directly at the sim along the appropriate axis and then dollied/zoomed in and out until it was in the right ballpark - hope that helps!

can it be interactive like using in Touchdesigner connect with kinect
@MarkFancherFX5 жыл бұрын
That would be amazing, I’m not as familiar with touch designer as I am with houdini, but if velocity can be detected or derived from the Kinect information I’m pretty sure anything is possible. It may need to be a more lightweight solver than flip to run in real-time, I’ve seen some blazing fast 2d fluids lately!

Hey Houdini Mark. duebergang from mda slack. In general, do you prefer to use say the cop network node inside of sops, as opposed to the cop context? Why?
@DavidUebergang7 жыл бұрын
Nice tuto btw, good pacing and clearly explained the steps you went through to troubleshoot (a large part of the process right?) Subberinoed. :)
@MarkFancherFX7 жыл бұрын
Hey David. Sorry I missed this from earlier... it kindof depends from project to project. If I know I’m going to have a really complex sim with sources from all over the place I generally like to keep my DOPs out in the object level, but for relatively simpler setups I’ll do them “in line” as they say!

sebhch244 I understand your frustration. I came from conema4d studio. I felt if you wanted to have a migraine and nothing else would do, I would suggest taking any class in houdini. That being said, this tutorial assumes you know a lot about houdini. All the shortcuts were maddening for me. Think of houdini like a game sandbox. Any game that uses a mouse and keyboard requires the use of hot keys to compete with the best. Not fun to learn, but does everything to up your game. You can easily do anything Cinema4D can do in houdini. The big difference is they are nodes instead of groups of icons like displacers. The nodes allow you to go into the inner workings behind the scenes. Not just the options Cinema4D give to each displace you choose. This works for everything. The thing to try and grasp is that what seems like an AT&T switchboard isn't really all that complicated. It let's us build reusable effects, transforms etc. We keep the original and can go back to any stage to pull out information as it pertains to that stage of development. The best tutorial series I watched was actually for houdini 11. The basics hold fairly true. Learn nodes and networks. Everything in houdini is based on that. Learn that and things fall into place quickly.

sebhch244 also keep in mind, this is less advanced optical flow and more motion graphics. In 16.5 you can simply add an video to your basic Sim. Just a few clicks and you have something pretty great. Also bear in mind, you can create motion graphics in the app of your choice and export it to houdini. Then for houdini, the work flow is far easier. However, you will lose the dynamic motion graphics houdini is stellar at.
