Biometris, a business unit of Wageningen University & Research, is active in the development of methods and software that are instrumental in the solution of problems plant breeders are confronted with. Plant breeding has become a scientific activity in which decisions about which genotypes to select for propagation to a next breeding cycle have to be taken in a short time period in the light of large quantities of phenotypic, genetic, and environmental data. These data are produced by high throughput genotyping and phenotyping devices in combination with all kinds of omics data generating platforms, and remote and proximate sensors. Biometris helps plant breeders to model and visualize the data and extract essential parameters from the data, thereby providing a rational basis for crucial breeding decisions.
