The aileron servo is used in this example, yet this methodology applies to all control surfaces and even the throttle servo. Really happy I have come across your channel as I'm just about to put together a 91" skywing edge 549 with a GP76 twin. This is a long life dream to build a larger RC aircraft but really only been a sports flyer and I'm wanting to try my hand at some basic 3d flying. Would love your recommendation on throws and expo say for some flat spins and some hovering. Watch your other video on set-up and I tend to want to want to get to low and slow eventually. So I would love to hear what you would recommend on a set-up that's not to aggressive and a little forgiving.

Hi Don, I'm looking to upgrade the servos on that U Can Do from standard Futaba S148's to something stronger and faster for more, and quicker throw. I was thinking I needed longer servo arms and maybe double horns as shown here. I like those turn-buckle type adjustments on the pushrods as well. Suggestions?

So the mini servos are plenty strong enough these days to handle a plane the size of a UCD but then you will struggle with balancing it. You could easily get away with any standard sized metal gear servo with greater then 100 oz of torque. I would keep your pushrods and horns as they are. They are lite and plenty strong enough for that airframe.

great video. a question, do you need make sure that Travel is the -same on each direction? what did you do to get the 38/37 deg if both Travel are 135?

You will almost never have exactly the same travel on both sides. You may have 135 and 118 and that’s perfectly fine. You want to get as much resolution as you can (travel to end points on each side) and keep your throws to the desired degrees of pitch. If you’ve got travel above 100 you’re winning. I shoot for 125-135 and sometimes it comes up short. What you do not want is 145 and 75. Then it is not linear and the servo is traveling At inconsistent speeds, if you are matching servos this would be a nightmare!

Where do you buy these servos and controllers. Can you control this with something other than an Rc remote? I’m trying to have a twist throttle move a gas pedal on a car with an actuator.

The transmitter and servos are available online and at some of your local hobby shops. What you are wanting to do is really outside of my scope, I'm not sure how that would be possible with the technology that I am currently using. I'm sorry I wish I could provide you a better response.

Thank you! I’m using the blue poster putty. Just a small amount will allow it to stick and come off easily without damaging the Ultracote.
