Spheretrace for channel > blocking hit? Not walkable? Check if ledge >(not ledge? Start climbing) ledge? Check if walkable and can stand there> true? Climb over ledge. False? Can't climb that direction

@@An0ny That's some... nice? pseudo-code? you've got there based on crocopede's system I assume by the spheretrace. It's an extremely simplistic look at it though. As someone who has written a climbing system, let me go into some of the intricacies, and why this small description isn't helpful, and just a little smug. The sphere trace looks to see if you are hitting a wall, which by the way you need a second to detect the ledge, but from that point on all of your points in the chain assume the character is already on the wall. What about the check for if the player can grab the wall? Then, once you know you can grab the wall, there is the fun of orienting the character to the wall. This can be done multiple ways, my personal choice is the normal of the surface (for flat walls), and a mixture of the surface normal and an offset between the position of the characters hands (for angled walls). Outside of that, there are some more specific intricacies for a "climb anything" type of system. Like for example, If you have a climbable wall connected to a wall that isn't climbable (from the top or bottom), once the spheretrace detects the top or bottom of the climbable wall, it will simplistically ignore, or overwrite it's desired action based on if it can detect climbable walls and not use them, or if it ignores climbable walls and only does anything with climbable ones. This part gets really complex if you don't want just a simple "vaulting over ledges" system. Idk if you were actually trying to be helpful, but yea. Either agree or disagree with the comment, don't try and make people feel stupid.
