I had a Razer Viper 8 KHz at launch, and a lot of game engines didn't support the mouse whatsoever. Sometimes you're forced to play at 2000 HZ because there is noticeable stuttering or will feel like it's capped at a max speed no matter how fast you flick/turn your mouse. Of course, that improved in time. Though, games based on Valve engine can't really handle more than 2000 HZ well, which is why APEX seems to suffer even to this day. I feel like what could've been included in the video is the DPI tests that were conducted a couple weeks back and see the difference. I doubt it'll make any earth-shattering difference but it might be interesting to see the results. Otherwise, the mouse has been pretty good in my experience.

When I had the mouse, having discord open would cause stutters in apex like you've showed in your footage. Closing discord literally made 8k work fine in apex even with fast flicks, which is really weird because 8k with discord open would be fine in other games. HW acceleration and overlay are off so I'm not really sure why discord makes 8k stutter, but yep, it did for me. [07:45] Thanks for the detailed review! It's interesting to see how the 8,000Hz polling rate and optical switches impact the gaming experience. I appreciate the slow-motion footage to demonstrate cursor consistency; that's something I hadn't considered before. [04:29] It's a bit puzzling that the polling rate for the switches is locked, and there's no discernible difference in click to display latency. I wonder why that is. [03:31] The optical switches do seem to offer a noticeable advantage in click latency, even though the polling rate doesn't affect them as expected. [00:41] The concept of 8,000Hz polling rate providing a more accurate and responsive mouse input is intriguing, especially when you break it down to samples per frame on a high-refresh-rate monitor. It's definitely a unique selling point. [05:52] I agree that while these technical improvements are impressive, the most critical factor in choosing a gaming mouse is still its shape and how comfortable it feels during extended gaming sessions. [07:16] Razer's dedication to pushing the envelope in gaming mouse technology is commendable, even if not every gamer may benefit from it. I'm curious to see where they take this tech in the future. Overall, your review provides valuable insights into the Razer Viper 8K. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I really like the Viper 8k so much so I was mad I had to get my 1st viper 8K rma after 4 months of ownership. While I was waiting on the replacement mouse I had to fall back to my logitech g403 and I could feel the difference right away. Thankfully only took Razer 8 days to send a replacement. I think its a great mouse to own and isn't too expensive but you have to take these things into consideration before you pull the trigger on getting this mouse. 1. Is it the right shape for your hand? 2. High refresh rate monitor- 240Hz minimum to even begin to tell/feel a difference with the 8000Hz polling rate 3. 8000Hz increases cpu usage. I have a Ryzen 9 3900X(12 core cpu) and while mouse is at 8000Hz polling rate cpu usage goes to 18%. The recommended hardware from Razer is Intel i5 8600K/AMD R5 3600 and Nvidia GTX 1080/AMD RX 5700 4. Have the mouse plugged in all by itself on a separate usb controller from the rest of your usb device(not plugged in right beside each other). Having other things plug in on the same usb controller while mouse is at 8000Hz causes issues. So for example I only have 3 usb devices connected to my pc. Viper 8K, Corsair K100(also at 8000Hz polling), Tascam Model 12. K100 and Viper 8k are connected to back of motherboard but both on different usb controllers while the Tascam Model 12 is plug into my 2080 Ti usb c port. Wish newer gpus still had usb c port on them. Only way this mouse could be better is if there was a wireless viper 8k.

Running 2khz is flawless, but as time goes on testing both Deathadder V3 Wired and Viper 8khz on updated fps games seeing as more and more are supporting higher polling. All I can say is, never going back to 1khz polling, it may be so minor but I definitely feel off or behind when engaging in gunfights. I recently purchased the Viper 8K, before that I just used my Logitech MX 3 for work and gaming. I think the MX 3 is 125hz polling so the switch was instantly noticeable, it is way smoother on tracking shoots, glides smoothly and after a little getting used too, I have seen better results in games. If I could only have one mouse I would still use a professional mouse, because for work in Blender, Premiere, Lightroom, I find the heavier, more functional mouse to be much easier to work with, and since Razer Software bricked my iMac Pro, if I didn't have a dedicated gaming PC I wouldn't use it at all, word of caution to my Mac brethren.

i dont see a wireless 8k for a long time. I think there's lot of tech limits that prevent going past 1k atm and it'll probably be awhile before we see 8k. I personally think weight is more of a factor in your ability to aim so the fact this thing is 71 grams still is a deal breaker. I actually really loved the viper ultimate shape ( more than my superlight for sure ) but its too heavy and going from a lighter mouse to it you can feel the weight and it throws you off for awhile. If razer can get this down to like 40-50 grams with this tech id buy it instantly.

But tbh I really couldn't tell that much of an notable difference during Fps gaming compared to other top tier mice with standard 1k polling rate like the Glorious Model-O Wireless, & the Gpro SuperlightX that's currently my Main. And like he said it will all come down to the size & shape of the mouse & how well, and good feels in your hand. Would be really cool if somehow you could retro fit the 8K sensor from the Viper into the shell of the SuperlightX.
@xaytana2 жыл бұрын
On the sensor latency graph, it looks like the results are following a curve of exponential decay, and it flattens pretty quickly. The only potential benefit of ultra-high polling rates is the frame refresh argument, but that only argues error potential and not actual error. Realistically, 8KHz polling isn't even needed, 2KHz polling would arguably be sufficient enough for 240Hz panels, I'd even argue that we should instead have a more varied polling rate so that we can match a panel at 10:1; as this would consistently give ten samples per frame no matter what your refresh rate is, which in turn should actually be far more consistent with potential error being removed, as you're scaling polling to panel refresh. Plus, realistically, who is even actually pushing for panels above 240Hz outside of the upper echelon of esports; sure the change from 60 to 120 is massive, 120 to 144 is noticeable, so on and so forth, but the further you increase refresh rates the harder they are to notice, 360 will probably be absolute peak for people of the upmost highest visual fitness, _if even they can notice the change from 240 to 360 without placebo,_ else everything becomes more marketing wank. Which leads me to believe that ultra-high polling rates like 8KHz is also marketing wank, for reasons that should become fairly obvious with some logical thought; couple this with the fact that the switches are locked to 1KHz and the product nearly invalidates itself, why have cursor smoothness if you're returning potential error into button input, it's a decision that doesn't make sense if they believed in the ultra-high polling rate's practicality, and thus leads me to believe that it's all marketing.

Have had this product since February. I switched from a Cooler Master MM711 to this and ultimately, I felt the slight difference in how reactive it can be when running the 8khz polling rate. Also, the optical switches against mechanical are a great improvement because I did have that bounce trouble many times with the MM711. Not only does Apex act up with the 8khz, Fortnite has acted up on my end as well with the frame rate stutters along with Master Chief Collection and Gears 5 so with those titles, I dumb down to 2khz. But Call of Duty, Battlefield, Bullet Storm, Horizon Zero Dawn work fluid. So I do agree that it can still be about engine limitations.
@zazabean233 жыл бұрын
It has nothing to do with engine limitations. Only people who don't understand what engines these games run would say that. It's 100% a users fault, and lack of understanding. I got one about six months ago along with a 270hz panel. It's nice. I run it @4000hz because 8000hz caused issues in certain games. I hear your gripe about the shape. I think that if it were a bit taller it would feel better in the hand too.

I have the Viper 8Khz, it had a noticeable difference in latency, but the shape was wrong for me. I'm a claw finger tip hybrid with 20 x 10 hands. I'm maining the Zy's Rail, that one is too small for me, but I do like the shape. I've had the Model O, but that mouse stopped working after 2 yrs at the same time as my friend, planned obsolescence or cheaply made.

I play mostly Overwatch at 240hz and yes the 8k feels slightly smoother, is it worth the upgrade? Honestly, if you have the money and want to reduce input lag as much as possible than yeah, you already have a decent mouse and you aren't sure if it's worth it? Skip that one.

I have the base Razer Viper (not the 8K model) and it's already, by far, my favourite mouse (I've been through R.A.T mice by Madcatz, some Corsair mice, some Steelseries mice and also own a Glorious model O). Fits perfectly in my hand, the weight is just right, and when I changed from the Steelseries to this one I litterally could see my K/D ratio improve overnight as the mouse really fits me a lot better. The 8K model actually isn't much more expensive that the base model, so it sounds like a good choice to me!

4:14 regarding the lack of change in click latency, Battle(non)sense tested this and apparently the Razer always sends click data at max polling rate. Polling rate settings only affect sensor data: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6jJkHloi8eifLM

Unfortunately I bought the Viper 8Khz the week it got released. What I realized is that the 8KHz is pretty much pointless, and even caused me to have stutters in Valorant, so I had to drop the poling rate to 4Khz or 2Khz (which is already faster than the other mice on the market). However, what must be pointed out about this Viper are these: - It uses the Gen 2 optical switches from Razer (rather than first gen found in the first Viper) - It has PTFE feet (unlike the OG) - It has the Focus+ sensor (unlike the 5G they sported for a long time). So with that said, if you liked the Viper in the first place, but would have wished for PTFE feet and Focus+ sensor, this is the one to choose. Anyways, I don't think the OG is still sold nowadays.

i switched to 3200 dpi to saturate my new 4000Hz polling. not sure if high dpi with low sens (relatively, but not as much as others: im 7.41 cm/360) will do that. the internet is just getting more and more people recalling what they heard secondhand than facts. if it gives me placebo i am still happy though haha.

This is a solid mouse. I like the Razer Viper shape and the fact that the Vipers are a true ambidextrous mouse (I'm left-handed) is a big plus - something like the Model O or the Logitech Superlight don't work for me because there are no side mouse buttons on the right side of the body. I am one of those weirdos that also likes cabled peripherals - I have a wired mouse, headset, and even my Bluetooth keyboard stays plugged in because I just hate having to charge things, so the Viper 8K is great. Then you toss in the fact that it's about 60% cheaper the Viper Ultimate and you have a winner. And honestly, I thought the "smoother" stuff would be marketing fluff, but you can legitimately feel the difference when you're using it all day every day and then switch to a regular 500Hz or 1000Hz mouse - it feels slower and a bit jankier on the screen.

I personally use the Viper Ultimate because I prefer to have a wireless mouse, plus my brain (and my 100Hz panel) aren’t fast enough to take advantage of the 8,000 Hz pulling rate… But, I love the fact the Viper is truly ambidextrous because I am left handed…

I got around the lag and stuttering in apex by disabling: v-sync, anti-aliasing, ambient occlusion. And setting texture filtering to bilinear.
@zazabean233 жыл бұрын
There's no lag or stuttering due to the razer 8k. If there's any issues it's user error. The razer 8k could be making the GAMES stuttering more visible because Apex is a shit show of a game engine wise.

I use the viper 8k, and I can feel a very big difference when compared to other mice or even lowering the polling rate. It might be because I use high sensitivity and I play extremely fast paced, but the difference is large enough to where I hate using other mice.

Hey I know this is an old video but it’s been proven that 3000dpi greatly reduces input lag over 800dpi (with game sensitivity lowered for equivalent tracking speed). Would really like to see 8k vs 1k tested at higher polling rate to see if the gap increases.
