Gradius (life force, salamander, etc) is one of my favorite series of games, and 3 is my favorite among them. I actually prefer the NES sound chips over most of the 16 bit ones. Therefore: I probably account for quite a few of the views on this video. Very well done.
@WallyChantek5 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it! Gradius 3 is definitely my favorite as well, specifically the SNES version. It just feels like the most well-rounded entry with the overall best soundtrack. Regarding the music, some of the tracks in the other games can be pretty hit-or-miss for me, but I like basically every track in 3!
@BlueBomber795 жыл бұрын
"Cosmo Plant" was my ringtone for a long time, and I still use the game start sound for text messages. And yeah, I agree, some of them are hit and miss. The bizarre time signatures in some of the Life Force/Salamander games can be a little jarring. IMO, Konami pretty much ran circles around everyone else with 8 bit music, especially with the American releases. Sunsoft occasionally gave them a run for their money.

This whole album was made for just the 2A03? Considering Konami was involved in the original, I'd have expected VRC6 to be mandatory to make something like this. Yet, if I didn't know better, I'd have thought this was the OST. Flawlessly executed.
@WallyChantek8 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much, and yup, pure 2A03! I'm not a big fan of expansion chips so I don't use 'em. If you're interested, I included the Famitracker source file in the album download so you can check out how I did everything!

That's right! Gradius II FC is perhaps the soundtrack I've studied the most, so a lot of my influence and techniques for all of my music are taken directly from it. It really opened my eyes to what kind of amazing stuff you can do with such strict limitations!
@paxhumana20156 жыл бұрын
Well, considering that Gradius III was released in 1989 for arcade systems, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse was released in 1990, Lagrange Point was released in 1991, and Gradius III was ported to the SNES/NSFC the same year as the last game, it honestly is more realistic to use a VRC6 or VRC7 chip for an NES/FDS Gradius III port, and especially since the voice samplers on both chips are far superior than what is found on the VRC2 or VRC4 chips that preceded them, not to mention that Konami would have been using those chips in their NES/FDS cartridges anyway at that point in their history, Wally Chantek and L-Y3T. Furthermore, one of the things that is memorable about Gradius III was the announcer that told you what items that you had (even though there was also an announcer with the same voice sample in the two previous arcade versions of Gradius, though there was no voice sample on either the NES or FDS ports of Gradius and the FDS/NES homebrew port of Gradius II had an announcer, yet the voice is horribly muffled, despite both arcade games having the same announcer as Gradius III in their arcade forms...seriously, go listen to the SNES, PSP, PS2, or Arcade ports of Gradius III or the arcade or PC-Engine/TurboGrafx 16 versions of Gradius I and II and you will know the truth for yourself, yet a VRC6 or VRC7 chip could easily solve that problem), plus there was some additional audio comments that the arcade port of the game had, yet the SNES/NSFC port of the game lacked, not only in the aforementioned audio samples, but also with the written text in Stage 1, as well as just the audio that was mentioned with the final boss at the end of the arcade version of Gradius III (though what he, at least I think that said boss was a he, anyway, said was never mentioned in any sort of text in the arcade, SNES, PSP, or PS2 ports of the game, which would have been nice if that was rectified, anyway). Still, with that being said, what you did on the 2A03 chip sounds damn near identical to what Konami would have done on any of their VRC chips anyway, Wally Chantek.

@@vandieyahya1024 , fun fact, there is actually a Vic Viper of sorts in an official LEGO set, namely it is in one of the Alien Conquest sets, specifically set #7066. The builder of that set was a friend of someone that was the de facto leader of building Vic Viper models out of LEGO. I think that he built around at least 100 variants of the Vic Viper. The person that did that was named Nate Nnenn and a sticker that is for the little fighter craft that is in that set, as well as the fighter craft itself, pay homage to him. Sadly, he died due to a heart attack around the same time that the official LEGO set was released. Curiously, Konami has never acknowledged this issue with LEGO fans or LEGO itself.
