Wonderful work. I took the liberty of making an MSU-1 music pack for Gradius 3 SNES of your 2A03 arrangements. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4PNin2pi7Ksoacsi=7p7WOXGoywfMfYNg

I intended to find some good mml examples for learning ppmck as a grand noob, and end up here. And i find most the of your archived nes music works are ftms, and this might be the only nes mml within. So how do you compare nes mml tools e.g. ppmck to Famitracker? Is Famitracker more powerful than nes mml tools?
@WallyChantek Жыл бұрын
Hey there, yeah, this is indeed the only track I did in MML. Overall I think Famitracker is a more powerful tool, mostly because you get to hear what you're doing in real time, but I think PPMCK has some strengths as well. Mostly, it has the following features which Famitracker lacks: - Automatic single-channel delay effect - Automatic note cutoff/release ("quantization" as it's referred to) based on the distance between one note to the next (rather than a set number of frames) - Easier re-use of instrument envelopes among songs since they're stored in text and you can just copy/paste entire blocks (or you can include files, so you could even create a global envelope definition for all of your tracks) - Built-in support for tuplets/triplets - If you're a programmer, you have the ability to write pre-processors for MML files since it's all just text; I haven't released it yet, but I recently prototyped an instrument definition macro preprocessor, so you can define entire instruments and call them via a name (i.e. $GUITAR or $BASS) Those are the main things that come to mind. The main pro of Famitracker would be, as mentioned, the real-time auditioning ability. Another thing to consider is that, from what I've heard, Famitracker's NSF music engine is more efficient than PPMCK's, plus Famitone exists, so if you intend to use it for actual NES homebrew, you may want to pick Famitracker for that reason alone. But otherwise, I think it really just depends on which makes more sense to you. Most of the things listed above can be done manually in Famitracker, so you really aren't limited based on what you pick; it's just what works better for your workflow and what's more fun to use. I recommend giving both a good shot and making a decision based on what feels right. Personally, despite most of my stuff being done in Famitracker, I actually found myself liking PPMCK more the past few years (probably because I got deeper into programming), and likely would use it exclusively if I went back to music. Anyway, hope that helps. Also, make sure you get PPMCK 09a ex11.3 , which can be found at AoiMoe's Github. I may be slow to reply, but let me know if you have any questions about setting stuff up.

This so happens to be my favorite track in X3 and one of my favorites of the X series, so it's awesome to here this in 8-bit NES form!

I was starting to do stuff again, but with the health issues I've been having after getting my gallbladder out I feel like I may as well be dead. Maybe I'll be back, maybe not. Just depends on if I ever recover completely and feel normal again, though I'll probably be looking at life completely differently after all this, so who knows.

I wonder what soundfont is this. (Specific, rather than just Konami soundfont.)
@WallyChantek2 жыл бұрын
It was all done in Famitracker. With the exception of the drums, which use the same samples from Gradius II, the instruments were mostly just from scratch based on what sounded good to me (which happened to be Konami-esque since their music's always been influential for me). Please let me know if you have any other questions.
