Kind of depends on how much coffee you go through and how quickly, no? I go through a 300g bag within 5 days (coffee for 2 people while WFH). I think single dose is a bit of a fad for single people, or marriages with one coffee lover.

@@vancitycanucks if that's the target market for single dose, I'd hardly say it's a fad given how large of a market that is. Plus anyone who likes nice coffee and wants to keep it fresh doesn't pour it all in the hopper and lets it sit anyways.

Your excitement and passion are infectious in the best way. Thanks for always producing such wonderful upbeat content. The grinder looks very interesting, especially at this price point. Stepless, single dose, zero retention, and rechargeable at that price is just a steal imo. Although I do worry only about longevity in regards to part quality, but I also have faith in Option-O based on their other gear.

Great excitement! I also appreciate the awareness about caffeine. I wish every roaster makes at least a couple of very good decaf beens. The idea behind this grinder is great. And I think we should start seeing hybrid grinders from each good producer, that we can use with or without electricity.

I have been using the 48mm version for a while and it works perfectly even for espresso. I think the coffee profile is slightly differently from C40 as far as I can tell, producing a smoother/more-balanced cup comparing to a crisp clean one from C40. Looking forward to your opinion on this :) Their customer service is also amazing btw. I had some questions before and got response in a day! Really amazing grinder and amazing company.

I had a cheap ceramic burr hand grinder that was stepless, basically you just tighten or loosen a nut :p Stepless or stepped isn't necessarily good or bad. It depends more on the grinder itself, on how large the steps are. I think stepped is fine on something like a Baratza Vario where the steps are so tiny it barely makes a difference :D I'm sure other grinders with small adjustments are the same like 1zpresso J Max. Stepped usually makes it a bit easier to go back and forth between settings.
@KyleRowsell
@KyleRowsell 2 жыл бұрын
Sure. That’s fine, But this isn’t worth debating if the step-less is as quality as the lagom mini’s is. There’s no argument when stepped would be better in this regard.

I love the design of the Lagom Mini! I didn´t know that it runs at such low RPM. Thought it would be as fast as competition (Niche Zero, Baratza Encore, etc). It´s pretty interesting that 1Zpresso K-PLUS looks thick against this Lagom Mini.

If you already have a kplus or similar high end hand grinder I don't think this is going to be better, especially with the smaller burr option, Although you do gain the motor if you don't like hand grinding.

Hmm now I am considering replacing my Eureka Mignon for this one with the obsydian burr set. Mainly because it has so small footprint and I can bring it everywhere I want while I am traveling and because I am starting with filter as brew method and wanted to buy hand grinder since the mignon is a bit eh when it comes to filter. Another great video Kyle, bringing cheer in the Christmas spirit with your good vids!

I have a hand grinder from Java Press $36. That holds 1.25 oz of beans. Burr grinder with adjustable knob spring in it with knoctches as you turn it on the bottom. Medium roast beans from Africa . boy are they hard. 50rpm. For Christmas I got a bag of Cappuccino blend. Gees it's like grinding air. 80 rpm lol. My coffee machine is a Bunn one cup pour over. Pretty hot at 200°f. A minute to grind , a minute to pour over , sip it man. No waiting. Guess I'm impatient for your wet the filter ,dump water, pour... Hey did you rinse down all that foamy coffee in your filter as you poured over ? What they call the the creme? Wow $300ish for a grinder. Is it static free? Unlike plastic on my Cuisinart 1/2lb grinder. Lost count on how many 40lb bags of beans ,till the grinder flew apart lol! Then JB weld the bean funnel back together an kept grinding. Retired that to hand grinding. Bean alot of fun. Still!

In the same price range, you have a super modded electric grinders that you can buy an SSP burrs with. Going more expensive, you have the mahlkonig home series in the 700-800usd price range. Going cheaper, you have 1zpresso K series. Even cheaper, you can go for J-series 1zpresso and timemore.

@@KyleRowsellWent with the Ode. It will mostly be used for my Aeropress (which I think is really forgiving when it comes to grind), which is the brew method I use when I'm working or studying and don't want to take time away to hyper-focus on a brew. It's replacing a Bodum Bistro, so it's still an improvement. I can always upgrade it when they release the new burr set, or get the SSPs in the mean time if the wait is too long and the grind is too coarse. I didn't want something too nice since this one will live on an aircraft carrier for a while. The small footprint and lack of a large hopper also work well here. For pourovers and 9barista shots, I still have my C40. This one looks pretty awesome though, right around the price point I want, grinds for pourover, small footprint, simplified interface...

That’s definitely quieter than the first version, but still slow to grind.

I started my coffee journeys 21 years ago with the Jura Subito (or Capresso Ultima) and a modest Heartware flat burr grinder. 10 years ago it faded out (was working so hard I didn't have the 10 minutes free to make my perfect Latte, so it was all or nothing, and nothing - won). I was dialing espresso before KZbin existed (grinder, puck pressure, brew time, different beans like: Kenya, Brazil, Columbia, Ethiopia, Guatemala.... and the amazing Jamaica Blue Mountain), and now after so many years with Jacobs Instant Coffee (remember... all or nothing) I happen to have found this channel.... I want to go back... I want to dial back my coffee. And I decided to try to revive my 2nd Jura Subito (stored at my work place, which I have not visited for more than 2 years). Stay tuned... I will report my progress.

My ek43 could grind that grinder faster than that grinder can grind a few coffee beans. Seriously though.....I'm impressed. Might buy one with it's travel bag simply for traveling.

@@KyleRowsell Hi Kyle, just to confirm then, are you saying that this Lagom Mini uses the same burrset as the Timemore C2 Chestnut and therefore the Lagom Mini burrset is Chinese and from Aliexpress? And does the Lagom Mini therefore produce grinds very similar to the Timemore C2 Chestnut?
@KyleRowsell
@KyleRowsell 2 жыл бұрын
@@c0mbat15 I’m saying that the burr set on this 38mm lagom mini is produced from a company called great full industrial. That create burrs - and both of these grinders use it. Yes - they have similar results. The 48mm version I reviewed is the way to go in my opinion.

Not to be a stick in the mud and this could just be a lemon, but this guys experience with the lagom mini 48 mm for espresso is not good. Theres a thread on home barista. Heres a clip kzbin.info/www/bejne/apDPfpeuYrumecU

Sadly Prima coffee is having a field day with the price of the P64. They are making a lot of money controlling the supply and selling those grinders well above the cost from manufacturer.

informercials? If that’s how you feel my friend then don’t watch. I’ll always been 100% honest with my audience and always have been. Why would I twist in my favour? How would I have favour in talking positively or negatively about a coffee grinder? I have no affiliation with option-o nor do I care what they think of me. Have a nice day. 🙂
