Southgate sacrified Foden to manmark Rodri so he had one of the best players not able to attack. Saka did not help in defense, Kane and Bellingham were exhausted and all the while all these youngsters on the bench aching to play. Southgate played to Spain's strengths. He might be a great guy and he is probably brilliant at motivating the team but he is not great at tactics. With all this talent, arguably the best players of the tournament, and they were made to look average at best.

Avoiding all the top teams at the tournament till the final game, engerlund always get the easier teams in the qualifiers and then in the tournament itself, Serbia Denmark Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Holland, as opposed to Germany,Italy, France, Croatia, Albania and Serbia, two very different paths to the final and ,if asked, every Englishman and his dog wouldve picked the route that engerlund got, only playing one of the top European sides, and in the final game, that's why your team failed 😅

@@Masterful100 True. But that was then and this is now. People argued that there was a balance because of Pogba. Deschamps criticism is his over reliance on Mbappe to get goals. Let's be honest, managers can't go on forever and lack of France's play stank up the tournament. Jules reluctance to critique Deschamps is definitely a national thing and based on Deschamps' accolades.

And then two other starters were at their academy at one point. If anything the basque country was far more influential. @@Rodney231 bilbao had 3 academy products as did barca. Thing is barca can't really credit olmo as much cos he left at 16 whereas all bilbaos guys did academy all the way to first team at bilbao.
