OPUS 15 in the ANZA BORREGO Desert // Campsite Walk-Around

When our holiday travel plans changed, we loaded up our Opus 15 camper and headed for the Anza Borrego Desert State Park in Southern California. Before we headed home I thought I'd share a quick walk-around video of our campsite here in one of the canyons.

Same thing happened to us! Our plans had to change as a result, while we did not get out on the trail there is something unique and also special about doing Thanksgiving with just your own little family!

I really like your trailer, so i went and bought one used for our family. Any modifications you have done on the trailer?

That’s awesome, congrats! I would recommend replacing the factory “chensaw” Chinese tires. We had a blow out on trip #5 with ours. Another thing I’d say is check the spare tire carrier mount brackets under the rear of the camper. Our came loose from the factory and had to be tightened - it’s a big apparatus to come loose so worth a check! Hope you enjoy yours as much as we have.

I would like 15gal better. It’s not bad, I’d guess we get around 3 days out of it if we keep an eye on it.

Just FYI - I think open fires are allowed in Anza as long as it’s in a self contained fire ring/pit.

I think you’re right 👏🏼 I was playing it safe and I actually love the convenience of the propane fire ring sometimes.

How far up can u drive up into the wash before it gets too tight for the trailer?

We only went a few turns up sandstone canyon this time. You could go a bit further with a trailer than we did, maybe 5 or 6 turns in.

Think a mazda cx5 2wd able to get in there?

I would be hesitant to try it without at least AWD. Clearance might also be a concern on a CX5 if you want to run the entirety of Fish Creek.

@4XTRAIL gotcha, yea i was looking up more videos in the area, definitely sandy and questionable. Still saving up to get something with high mileage for now to overland with until we get the mazda payed off.

⁠yeah for sure! You don’t need a crazy vehicle to get back in there which is cool. But there are enough 1-2’ rocks and ledges plus some deeper sand sections that AWD or 4WD would be nice and enough clearance to get over the rocks (maybe 8-10” of under body clearance?) and decent approach angle such as a stock 4Runner or Cherokee. Good luck w/your overland project and definitely pay the anza a visit!
