Here is a classic - “Oró, Sé Do Bheatha 'Bhaile” - it’s an Irish folk song sung in the Irish language. Please forgive my mistakes as I am still studying the art of sean-nós and the Irish language. I’m not fluent and am bound to make mistakes, but I am trying my best and want to show my admiration and respect for this beautiful language and art form! 💖

It's been a challenge, but it's been worth it! Part of my motivation is to learn to sing in Scottish Gaelic. I want to commend you for your dedication to learning the language and learning to sing in it. You do it beautifully! Cùm a' dol! (Keep going!)

Tir gan teanga, tir gan anam! I am American of Irish decent, I surprised a man fro Kerry the other day, by speaking to him in Irish. Young Irish people have to save the language. It is a shame that there are only three areas that speak Irish on a regular basis--the whole country (north and south) should have a working knowledge of their own language.

I was in a tiny pub in the Aran Islands, and I was the only foreigner. An old man told me that Gaelic was the language of the poor people. I told him in his own tongue that you are only poor if you let someone take your language. Hopefully, the people of Ireland catch onto this fact. There is a classic scene in "The Winds that Shakes the Barley," where the Black and Tans ask the names of the young men captured there and Michael O'Sullivan answers in Irish. They take his life, but he never allowed them to take his language.
@ChristopherAllen-b4o
@ChristopherAllen-b4o 2 ай бұрын
@@brianhogg9857It's Irish. The word Gaelic is an anglicized form of "Gaeilge," which means "Irish," as in the language itself. So just say "Irish" when referring to the language. Also, Gaelic more often refers to Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig).
@NiallMor

@@MartinGoff-tl6nx I noticed your comment in Irish, “Tir gun teanga, tir gun anam.” (A land without a language is a land without a soul.”) Would you believe the phrase is almost exactly the same in Scottish Gaelic? I’ve been learning Scottish Gaelic for almost two years using mainly Duolingo. Irish and Scottish Gaelic are very closely related and should survive. Keep learning! Keep going! (Cùm a’ dol!)

Reminds me of a quip by Ronnie Drew during a concert in England: "There was a suggestion made last year. That all the books written by Irish authors, which are banned in this country, should be printed in Irish... Which would be a great incentive for the Irish people to learn their own language..."

Níl sé deacair, b'fhéidir go bhféadfainn Gaeilge a mhúineadh do na garpháistí. Tá an iníon-chéile 100%, níl mo thaobhsa ach ar bheagán Gaeilge ó na 1750idí leis na Boones ag dul go dtí na Carolinas, ansin suas bearna Cumberland go Kentucky. Is breá linn na teangacha, agus tá na leabhair againn. Tá mé rud beag níos Gaelaí leis an gcontae, féilte Dhún na nGall agus an mhála-phíobáin.. Is dócha nach bhfuil sé chomh maith leis na Gaeil.
