I read somewhere that you could use Worcestershire (I know Americans have a problem with that 😁 - so you pronounce it Wooster-shire) sauce instead of fish sauce, because it’s made with anchovies. I bought fish sauce to try, and I didn’t like it, even though there was only a small amount 🤮 As for oranges, they are the only reason I wish I lived in the States, oranges here are so NOT fresh!!! I really enjoy watching you, you’re definitely the best, I feel like you’re family more than someone showing me what they do! It all looks absolutely delicious! I’m definitely going to try that sometime, when my niece and daughter come for dinner 😊 Or I might just make it for me, and have it over four days 😋
@TheSaltedPepper4 жыл бұрын
LOL! You can certainly use Worcestershire sauce instead, but I don't think it gives the right depth of flavor. As far as fish sauce goes, NEVER smell it or taste it on its own. It is enough to make you want to never eat again. LOL Every time I use it, I have to remind myself that my food will not taste like the fish sauce smells. I hope you make it and love it, with or without fish sauce!

I would like to use the Ninja Food to blanch green beans to freeze them. I am thinking steaming for 0 minutes in the basket and then cold bath. I would also like to do homemade garlic croutons again in the basket. I like how you found ways to use the Food. I find it save a lot of energy by not heating a big owen and time when using the pressure.

Hi Louise. This recipe looks and sounds del. so I jumped right in and ordered a bamboo steamer so I can try it. I’ve never used one of these stea,Myers before so I have questions. On your video it looked as though you set the steamer base directly in the water in the bottom of your Ninja pot Would it be OK to use my Goldlion sling on the bottom to keep from getting the bamboo bottom wet? I’ve seen 8” perforated parchment papers on Amazon but the reviews referred to using them in the Crisp basket. Would it be a good idea to use them in this steamer basket (such as when you put your broccoli flowerets directly in the bamboo basket?). I liked the idea of using the Big Daddio cake pan for the rice. I look forward to hearing your advice. Thanks so much for your extremely informative videos. Jan
@TheSaltedPepper4 жыл бұрын
The bamboo is fine to sit in the water, but you won't hurt anything by using the sling either. The height of the sling might put the steamer too high in a 6.5qt Ninja Foodi. You can use parchment, but it isn't necessary. The steamer I have has been out of stock for quite a while, unfortunately. It is the perfect size, so I am very interested to hear which one you purchased and how it fits. I'd love it if you would email me after you get it and let me know. People ask me for them all the time and I'm not sure which one to recommend now. Thanks and my email is Louise@thesaltedpepper.com

I am so grateful for you and your Foodi videos! I watch when getting ready in the mornings! In fishing around on Amazon I found the steamer basket. I also found a number of stackable stainless steel steamer baskets for pressure cookers. One would fit the foodi and comes with a sling, eliminating the extra baking pan and the graffitti bands. Is the bamboo better?
@TheSaltedPepper5 жыл бұрын
The different materials will conduct heat differently. One isn't necessarily better than another and since I don't have the stainless steel one, I can't really comment on it. I'm guessing that the one you are looking at has a layer with holes and a solid layer? I do like the Bamboo one even though I have to put a cake pan in for certain things because the bamboo doesn't retain the heat from the steam and inadvertently overcook the food. I think either will work, but you may need to adjust the time when using the stainless steel. I'm trying not to buy a ton of specialized stuff for the Foodi to make it easier for everyone, but I fell in love with this bamboo steamer set! I will be putting out a video on steamed buns and they turn out perfect in it. I do put the links to the products I use in the description of the video, but in case you want to compare what I use with what you are looking at, here is the link for the bamboo steamer I use: amzn.to/2F6XOBd. The cake pans are my go to for sure and these are the ones I have: amzn.to/2ClidCd I use both the 6" and the 8" in my recipes. Thanks for watching and for the nice compliments! I do appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment!
@erincox-holmes26575 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. Thank you! On another issue entirely, I made your spaghetti recipe twice. Followed recipe exactly. Both times the red button popped up but never came to pressure. On one of the times, it bubbled away and everything was cooked, but the spaghetti was gummy. On the other it burned. Both times I had made sure nothing was sticking to the bottom of the pan, and the noodles were submerged. I am getting paranoid about the little dashes chasing each other and never making it to pressure!
@TheSaltedPepper5 жыл бұрын
Erin Cox-Holmes was there steam releasing? I have heard that this can happen when your seal is not seated correctly in the groove. I would do a water pressure test with 4 cups of water and see if it goes under pressure. I have had a few times where the spinning circle continues for several minutes after the button pops up, but it does come under pressure. The only thing I can think of is check the silicone ring, make sure your valve underneath the lid is clean, make sure the valve is on seal. I hope that helps and you are able to make the spaghetti because it is really good!

Darcey DeRosa You know, that’s an interesting question. I love garlic and use it in a lot of recipes. This recipe didn’t need it, in my opinion. I think it would be fine if you added some, but I wouldn’t add too much.

Yes, of course! I have other recipes that don't use the steamer and I put the rice in a pan and it's fine. I wanted to do a ton of recipes with the steamer and only did two! I do love it though and I hope to get more videos out using it.

Hi Louise, could you tell me if the rice steamer fits in the Ninja Foodi 6.5 quart? I don't know if you are using the 8 quart or the 6.5 quart. Also will the time for your recipes be the same, for the 6.5 quart. Thank you, Betty
@TheSaltedPepper5 жыл бұрын
I'm using the 6.5 qt in this video and most of my other videos. If I use the 8 qt, I will say that for sure. From what I understand (from people who make my recipes in the 8 qt) everything is pretty much the same. As far as the bamboo steamer goes, it does fit in the 6.5qt, but you can't fit the lid when using both layers. I usually cover it if need be with a silicone cover or foil. In the 8 qt, the lid fits with both layers.

I have to share a funny story about this recipe. I’m a huge orange beef fan, but it’s not always prepared delicately enough. I don’t want chewy beef. I was ecstatic about this recipe. Struggle to find a few ingredients. Get everything home and plan to make them next night. Zest 4 oranges, a lot of work. Squeeze out the juice. Create my marinade and get going on that. Look at the husks of squeezed oranges. Turns out the bag of oranges were very small grapefruits. You had to look to find that label. In the store these bags label citrus were next to the navel oranges. Grapefruit beef is a big no.
