Easily the best A/B comparison that exists on these amps. I currently own both. This is a DEAD accurate representation. Still can't decide which I like better. The mids are EQed at a more Marshalling sound on the Super Crush 100 while the CR120 is typical Orange scooped low mids which make sit a darker sounding amp without help. Want both sounds, put an EQ pedal in the loop of the CR120. That's that I did! I personally prefer the C120 as an Orange amp and if I want the chugs back, just boost it with an MXR od badass modified with the mid point boosted and/or use an EQ pedal in the loop.

As an owner of both, some things you can't hear: The sweep on the volume and gain of the SC on dirt channel are more usable all the way up where the CR is pretty much fuzz past 9:00 on gain and master volume has no difference passed around 2:00 p.m.

@@tonemorphdan Interesting, as Orange tech director, Ade Emsley says “it has the same amount of gain, just the four stages kick in much later on the dial.” I guess it’s something that needed to happen in order to keep the JFET’s reacting tube like. Excellent demo. I own the Super Crush 100. Bought it when it came out here in Europe last October. Its really important to use the right cab with these amps, the bigger the better as it grinds more and takes some of the harsh highs away. I always have the preamp volume dimed and the gain turned up to taste. This is when it shines at its best! Btw, throw a graphic equalizer into the effects loop as the eq on the amp is a bit too passive for my taste. Trust me, you will not regret it. The clean channel has no bright cap according to Ade the designer, which is good as it makes it super pedal friendly. The reverb on the amp is digital, but it sounds great and smokes all of those on the CR120.
@tonemorphdan2 жыл бұрын

Hey Phillip, I have a question for ya.. (thinking bout buying one of these) these amps state that you get the full power when paired with 8ohms.. It gets cut down if you're using 16ohm. I see most 4x12 cabs are 16ohm.. So wouldn't that mean it would be better paired with an 8ohm 2x12? I'm confused about this. How do I get a 412 cab and still get full power? Lemme kno what you think..

@@13aphomet Hey there! it depends what youre using it for. I assume your´re gigging so I would go with a 2x12 at 8 ohms. I prefer closed back. Sounds thicker and fuller. Speaker choice is up to you but i love the V30 for this amp and even a greenback or G12H30 or a mix. I had an Eminence Reignmaker in my cab before that. Worst speaker ever for that amp. super brittle. Quality of the cab is really important and also no one wants to haul a 4x12 anymore least of all me as i have lower back problems. I just got the CR120. I heard the clean channel takes fuzz pedals well but i was dissapointed actually: they sound kinda fizzy and trebly like in the kuro comparison at the end. BUT!! The dirty channel oh my god... you can set the dirt very low and make it sound almost exactly the same as the clean channel, and it takes fuzz pedals so damn well. Punchy, with a lot of low end and good enough presence... sounding similar as the crush pro 100 with the kuro at the end. I got a lot of dirt and fuzz pedals so I never use the amps dirt, so Im fine having it as my only channel, and im so damn happy with the sound.
@tonemorphdan2 жыл бұрын
About the clean channel I'd say that depends by the pedal that you're using. I usually put highs and bass between 13 and 14 o' clock if I want a flat sound, highs at 12 for less fizzy and high at 15 with maxed bass for scooped clean.

I have the CR120 and must say the Super Crush in this demo sounds like it has the superior dirty channel. Sure you might be able to get the Pro to sound somewhat close but it's always going to sound a bit wooly and dark by comparison. HOWEVER, when it comes to cleans the pro has that little bit of bassman-esque grit that makes it sound so delicious for fuzzes. If I had to pick one I'd go with the Super just because of how good that dirty channel sounds. But for now I'll stay dooming with the clean channel on my CR120 and Chicago Stompworks Blue Bear. Great demo, both amps are awesome in their own ways. The pedal you're using at the end sounds like a Boss Hyper Fuzz.

Great video! I think I like the super crush 100 more lol any thoughts on the Orange Stamp?

The Orange Stamp is very nice! Kinda like a micro terror but in a smaller block. I've only tried it but I'd like to have it

Hiya! I recently purchased the SC100 and decided to compare it with my CR120. Upon a few playing tests I start to think the head might be faulty. Maybe you can help me here. Upon testing one against the other what I noticed is that there's a significant difference in volume. Running both heads through a 4x12 16ohm cab, the CR120 can make the walls shake at half volume already whilst the SC100 maxed out still sounds quiet, at bedroom level. Would that be alright? Also, through the dirty channel, the CR120 sounds more "metal" for the lack of a better term whilst the SC100 sounds more "Zeppelin" at the same settings. Again, is that to be expected? Thanks Vinny

About "metal" and "zeppelin" I'd say that is a matter of taste. About the volume: the SC100 is slightly less powerful than the 120. So, except if you're not doing anything wrong like connecting 2 head at the same moment in the same cab, there's something wrong.
@homestudiocovers Жыл бұрын
@@tonemorphdan No, not connecting both heads at the same time on the cab. I truly believe there's something wrong here. Thanks for the input Dan. Appreciate. Rock on! \m/

Classic CR120 has an all-round deeper tone to it

My preference is the Super Crush 100 due to the more mid focus and clarity.

man i am so stuck between getting the Super Crush 100 head with the PPC112 cab or the OR15 head with the PPC112 cab. i currently have a Crush 35RT and i love it but i just want more! the Super Crush wouldn’t be that much cheaper than the OR15 used, and i’m kinda curious about the tube hype but at the same time the Super Crush has built in reverb! i play garage rock / stoner rock / psych rock / doom. i am totally stumped and can’t find them to test in person. i use a handful of dirt pedals, and play at my apartment so manageable and low volumes is a must ! anyone have any advice?!
@tonemorphdan2 жыл бұрын
Here we go. I'd go for the supercrush all the way. It takes pedals way better than the or15. With the extra money that you'll save from the or15 I'd go for a 2x12 cab. Plus: you'll never get a decent clean at high volumes with the or15 and the crunch will compress a lot because of high master volume in live contexts. PS the genres are not defined by gear. Doom is a feeling, not gear! 🤘🏻😎. Cheers!

@@tonemorphdan okay awesome man! so you’ve played the OR15? i actually am leaning towards the Super Crush because of the reverb. now im thinking of getting the combo, but a head and cab seems sweet. big decisions lol. i really appreciate your help.

@@danielcarter3928 The OR15 was the first orange that I tried long time ago. I've met that amp again in my life but I realized that it's more a recording-studio-amp or practice amp if I want to archive a modern/vintage sound. It has very little headroom to me

what cab/speakers were this? I have a CR120 and it sounds literally studio quality crystalclear through my no-name chinese 2x12 lol. I finally upgraded to real cabs and that clarity is just gone and it almost sounds like a small practice amp now. I'm kind of losing my mind over it lol

when you plug in the D.I. out does it still play through the real speaker or do you have to monitor it separate? and vice versa if you unplug the speaker out can you monitor separate through the D.I. out without using a speaker cabinet??

It still plays through the real speaker and yes, works also without the speaker
