@@FunKaYxxD1sCO Honestly a really great portable amp would be the Yamaha THR series. I had the THR30II and it's tube I believe or a hybrid of given with the app you can control it and access tons of other options. Different effects and change those up. You can also save settings and change how it sounds in regards to what speakers given it uses different IRs. So you could do like a 1x12 or 2x12 or 4x12 kind of sound. Then also switch the kind of speaker being like a Vintage 30 or Creamback or what have you. You also don't have to tweak much to get it to sound great. The battery is rechargeable so you can take it with you. It has a USB out for recording and a left and right out to plug into an external speaker. It's also Bluetooth enabled making so you can use it as a speaker or to play along with songs. You can also save your presets and use it as a bass amp as well. If you get the Line 6 wireless receiver it'll charge it when it's plugged into the Amp rather than your guitar. The Thr10ii does similar things but you can't save your presets and its solid state. But it's till a really great amp with basically the same customization. I believe it's the 5 that doesn't have Bluetooth or wireless capabilities. For all of them though you can get a pedal controller. Or at least I believe for all of them. As for the Katana MKII 50 which is what I currently have. It's absolutely fantastic. You can switch how much wattage you push. Either .5, 25, or 50. If you plug it into your computer through USB you can record as well use the Software on the PC to edit things. It has a very deep customization. It's almost as deep as the Helix. You have a big array of different effects to choose from like Acoustic simulation or changing humbuckers to single coils and vice versa. Different kinds of delay as well as deep editing the delay. You can also have access to an 8 band eq for your tone. As well as different pedal options for boosters and distortion and so forth. You don't have to do much to get great sound out of it. But the options are definitely there. So far it's my favorite. However, I wish I would've got my THR30II back. But it is what it is. The Yamaha is $500 and the Katana is about $250 I believe. I got mine used at Guitar Center for $180 or so.

I think the solid state game is creating a lot more competition for tubes. The ability to better replicate that "tube" sound without the need for all the glass is happening in spades. I bought a Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 a few years ago and haven't considered a tube amp since.
@BazonBlades3 жыл бұрын
I need to try one of these in person. But I can tell you one thing I have learned in decades of playing guitar. The hard thing isn't making an SS amp sound good. Plenty of SS amps have sounded really good. The hard part is making it feel good. Playing through an SS amp is a completely different feel from tube amps. There is none of the give, squish, breath, elasticity or however you want to describe the feel that you get from a tube amp and it's tube power section. Not that it's a good or bad thing. It's just different.

For around $50 you can get an ART tube mic preamp; put it in the effects loop... You will be amazed at how you suddenly have that feeling, reaction, and the nuanced tonality of the valve, as well as increased volume output! It's been one of the greatest hacks I've discovered.

@DarkMatterEclipse3 жыл бұрын
I was about to say something quite similar. Have to try it in person. It's hard to describe, I call it tonal depth and the way a tube amp responds to my playing. To be fair, not all tubes amps have that depth and response either and may as well be solid state. Another thing for me (again, hard to describe) is where your drive/dist and notes/chords respond as one, opposed to sounding as two separate signals combined and the latter I don't like. Tube amps can have that dual sound and especially SS amps. Quality of speakers and cabinet plays a huge role too. I tried a popular brand name tube head with it's matching cab, was unimpressed. Plugged that head into a different cab and it was, oh, there it is, sounds great!. It's a tricky equation, I've heard some quite convincing SS amps but still falls short. Claim after claim over the years, a company claims to have nailed it with SS. If they did, they've shot themselves in the foot with their tube line. Even high end amp modelers that sound usably very good, to me, still falls just short. I'm a tough sell, my ears are tuned to many years of that defining sound I chase....but can't afford LOL....I get very close with my rig. If there's a SS amp that'll cut it, I'm onboard, replacing tubes and filter caps etc is expensive.

headroom has nothing to do with either it is tube or not. For headroom you just need to have enough clean power to avoid clipping. But when we need that classical saturated tone with sparkles, when both preamp and poweramp tubes are overdriven, then yes - don't get that with transistor amp. For that tone on a budged I would go for digital amps then, not transistor.

@SergeiVlassov3 жыл бұрын
@@paulosalgado9171 it is not my experience, it is just technical fact. But yes, wattage should be different. Tube amps can go way beyond the linear range of the tubes resulting in compression and added harmonics. Transistors can sound unpleasent outside the linear range (depends on scheme), so if we want to built two similarly sounding clean amps, solid state one should have higher output wattage, which is not a problem as doing 150W class D is usually even cheaper than making 15 of tube class AB. But don't forget, that headroom is also part of the design! Some tube amps have clos to zero headroom for clean tone as they are designed to sound dirty. Some Roland Jazz Chorus will have more headroom than many tube amps. Depends on models. You cannot just compare two random amps and make a conclusion about the whole technology based on that. You need to know all the parameters.

Great job. I dont think the tube amps are as needed as used to be. I've got a small boss amp that shreds 200$ !

Cool demo and sounds good, but would good to be compared to a tube amp of similar cost, maybe the marshall DSL

is this recorded with the D.I output or with a microphone in the cabnet?
@TrickyPickins2 жыл бұрын
Do you think that this amp could get 80's Thrash Metal and 90's Punk tones? I have seen demos where it gets a really good punk rock tone, but have yet to see any do a thrash tone with it. Fingers crossed Kyle Bull gets a demo on it at some point 🤞.

Your playing would probably make any amp sound good...but that amp is impressive. Im sold.

95% of people listening wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference between a tube amp and a solid state amp sound anyway so play whatever sounds good to you! Who gives a shit what everyone else wants! 🤘🤘
@Scrimshaw_DuBois423 жыл бұрын
It sounded great, but it was missing some aggressiveness for riffing imo. But that'd likely be easy to fix with a tube screamer or an SD-1, and that'd still be way cheaper than a similar high gain 100 watt tube head, which usually also need a boost or overdrive in front.
@KharonYT2 жыл бұрын
Let's be honest, you would probably use a tube screamer on most amps regardless
@tomgregus5693 жыл бұрын
Tubes are a novelty that will always be popular. However, with the plethora of fantastic sounding modelers and solid state amps out there, they really aren't needed to sound good.

This amp just has something that the CR120 didn’t have and I love it.
@gregorywilson33183 жыл бұрын
I honestly can’t make up my mind between the two: Cr 120 or super crush! Which is better for my applicagion?! Canibal Corpse and Ahab being my main influences as well as Candlemass! I am leaning towards the Cr 120. Gain breaks up earlier than the super crush also the super crush is better highs with a brighter sound. I might just pull the trigger on the older Orange CR 120! Especially for a fan of Acid Witch!!! ☯️
@hardydrachmann80383 жыл бұрын
I like the SC more because of the highs. It's better to have more to take away than to artificially add it in later - super for recording also in this respect. That's my opinion.

Blackstar makes killer solid state amps, and so does randall, most people think solid state means line 6 spyder but there are so many great ones out there and im adding this one to my stable.

Got.. (cool ..GOT) mine last week. I used to play my lovely Marshall 6101 for about 5 years and really know my tone. But the Supercrush is absolutelly killer.
@swmorgan5152 жыл бұрын
These clips are much tighter sounding than what I've heard in other youtube demos. Were you shaping it at all by boosting with an overdrive in front? My fear with Orange high gain is always that it will get "hairy" and fuzzy sounding as the gain goes up. Not a bad thing if that's what you like (especially for doom metal) but I prefer a really tight gain sound with my band/recordings. I've very close to picking one of these up.
@peteplaysmusic2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I used an OD pedal and noise gate in front of this to tighten it up. And I agree, Orange amps can sound fuzzier than most other high gain amps. It has plenty of gain but I wouldn’t say it’s ‘modern’ sounding. If you prefer the tight sound of something like a 6505 I don’t think this would be for you. It can do it, just not as easily as a more modern sounding amp. Thanks for watching! :)

In a mix is really where it shines. Sounds very similar to a tube amp. Seems hard to beat for $500.
@1thess5232 жыл бұрын
$500 😳, I got my Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 and a 900 for about $500 maybe even a little cheaper if memory serves me correctly 🤔. There are some Solid states that sound pretty good in videos but there are still lacking that little extra a tube amp gives. My son and I actually started with a solid state but the one day I personally tried a tube amp I immediately sold the solid state and found a Peavey 6505 + for $350 and that began our tube journey. We've had an Ampeg GVT-15, Bugera 333XL, Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister 18, Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 60, Vox AC15, Vox AC 30, and currently my son plays a Badcat Cub 40 and I play a Marshall JCM 900 Dual Reverb 50w and a JCM 2000 DSL 100.

To me, there's two "spots" that really gives all the tubes his interrest, and that's the breakup zone, nothing sounds like an edging tube, and full load tube amp with huge amounts of distortion. thos two spots cannot be achieved with solid states. And power section stays waaaay cleaner at high volumes on a full tube amp, and even when it overdrives, the sound of a 6L6 or EL34/84 is nothing to compare with Solide States, even of a very high class
